The porgy and blackfish jigs are excellent. I appreciate that the weight of the jig doesn’t change the size of the hook. Perfect for blackfish!! I’ve been having a ton of fun with the jigs.
Thanks for that!
I would like to thank John Skinner for teaching me how to set up a rod and catch a strong fish I've caught my first false albacore and pretty big stripers thank you very much John Skinner
Thanks for another great video John.
I'm constantly amused. Another good Video, John.
You had an awesome day! Rankin Fishing, wasn't able to get many blackfish from the coast of Delaware this year, but glad you are up north!
Awesome content as always!!!💯💪👊LETS GO!!!
Just ordered me some of those jigs John, they look great!!! 👍🏼🎣
Cape Cod Canal Fishing I assume that price on the website is per 1 jig? What size hook do they have?
Jboat571 X ya but thats still cheaper than the tidal tail jigs
Sorry what I meant was if it was more likely to snag structure because of the heavier weight?
Nice pick of blackfish. That jigg looks awsome.. I think i seen a fluke in the cooler... 😎🎣🤙🏼 nice work.. I enjoy watching👍🏼
Love the video man
Awesome John!!
Good session man! fantastic fishing...
Here in the UK we fish for the similar-looking ballan wrasse with texas rigged softplastics and Gulp (goby and crustacean imitations very successfull) would this work for these fish at all you reckon?
LOL I was just gonna say what is there a chase going on lol. That's one thing I don't miss when I moved out of NY !
Can you jig striped bass with this outfit?
yes
Is there a reason you go with a spinning setup versus a conventional setup like the one you use for fluking?
JS, thanks for yet another great video. I tried last year and again yesterday on the Peconic Bays side (out of Greenport) to avoid the slog around to the LI Sound side but have not found a productive spot. Tried rock piles outside Brick Cove/Goldsmiths Marinas and Jennings Point (SI). But fishing has to be productive quickly when with a 10 y.o. boy or it's a short trip!
I also went early yesterday morning from the shore near where you were in this video. Not sure exactly what the shore technique is for Tautog -- I was using the same rig you have but with green crabs -- just cast it out around the rocks, reeled in the slack and waited for the tap-tap. But I just lost one crab after another! Not sure what I need to do different.
Btw, i have quite a few crabs left over -- are dead ones any good for blackfishing? Thx! Jim
I would toss those dead ones unless you're using them real soon.
john use mole crabs or fiddle crabs or hermits if you know a commercial concher they give you all you want
Berkley used to sell gulp alive crabs (I haven't seen them for a couple of years). Have you ever used them, did you find them to be effective? Thanks.
would gulp crab work?
Great video John. How are you holding bottom with 1 oz of weight?
20# braid and no additional hardware makes a big difference.
I fish for blackfish in the western Long Island sound and keep catching lots of shorts what do you do to limit the smaller fish?
Hey John. Curious to ask..... what knot are you using to tie on the jig with?
John, are 4oz jigs just as effective in not getting stuck to structure as 1/4 oz jigg?
If I needed that much weight I wouldn't use a jig. I'd just fish a normal sinker rig.
I can't get Asian crabs at the bait store . They told me they might get some next week. If they do I will freeze them for next year lol
Hey John awesome stuff! With asian crabs does it matter where you put the hook through when baiting them on your jig? Given their size it looks like it really doesn't make a difference. Also do you have any preference on a good place to find asian crabs?
I just hook them through the middle. Sometimes 4 on a hook if they're real small.
Did you catch the sand fillers yourself or did you buy them somewhere
Is that a 16ft Starcraft Mariner ???
Did you loose any jigs John how was the structure sticky ?
None on this trip. Rarely more than 1.
John i was looking to get a slow pitch rod are they also good for fluke fishing, and for the Tog can they pull them out of a wreck ty ?
I don't like the slow pitch for fluke because I prefer a stiffer tip. You can save $ and go with a Tsunami Classic instead.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing ty John so the Slow Pitch is good for Tog jigging ?
Yes. The difference is you're not bouncing a tog jig.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing ty John i seen a nice one for 140.00 ty again gl
What kind of jig do you use?
Hello John any store around CT carries your jigs?
We carry them and we will ship them to you. www.jandh.com/products/s-and-s-john-skinner-porgy-blackfish-jigs.html
Thanks I'll get in touch asap
What are the size of the hook?
Which rod is this? The 6 ft or 7ft?
Honestly cooked shrimp on size 2 gamagatsu baitholder outfishes crabs every time
D Leopoldi now it's cooked shrimp. I was going to try raw shrimp this year, crabs are expensive
Robert Gerber go to shop rite and get a bag of shrimp for $10
Are you drifting or anchored
👍🏻
There’s blackfish now
Can you go over on hooking the crab in next video made?
First
Hey ThresherFishing
Second!
How come you don't take advantage of the pole holders? Great fisherman terrible organization skills lol
they are a great eating fish the only thing I don't like about them is all the slobs and scumbags come out and fish for them at least from all the land and jetty fishing
Yea and their population is decreasing, I'm happy if I can get one keeper from shore.
Not true. Based on what science? Their numbers are great.
It is true not just based on science but by many experienced fishermen I have talked with. Google Tautog IUCN red list and you will find out. Have nice day my friend.
BOO-HOO I didn't know YOU had a monopoly on fishing for Blacks.. get lost!
All of the "slobs and scumbags" come out and fish for them is pretty much meaning that they keep shorties.. at least from my experience. So calm down.
