I make my own trotlines also but have used the Walmart ones before too. I don't use the cheap hooks. Eagle Claw makes a circle hook with an oversize eye for trotline use that I've had good results with. I think it's model number is L198G. I order them from Memphis Net & Twine. Size 4/0 catches the size fish I like to eat.

Thanks for the tip. I haven't heard of Memphis Net & Twine. I will look them up.

How is the big one doing in your pond? We like fishing the river for sport, but don’t keep any. I may try to transplant some to my pond.

I put that one in and several others from another lake. They are all still kicking. I have a lot of bluegill for them to eat and I am about to order some Golden Shiners too. They have plenty to eat.

Transplanting fish in the hot months of the summer is hard because the fish are stressed by the heat

Surprisingly, it made it. It is still in the pond alive and well.

And now, that cat single handedly eats ANYTHING under 4 pounds, of any species, in that pond.
Once every 4 days or so.

gd otters ate every fish out of my 2.25 acre pond years ago and I couldn't do a damn thing about it due to Indiana DNR regulations. For a few years after that ordeal I trapped them successfully and with enthusiasm in other parts of the country as there was no season on them in Indiana....

I was successful in getting rid of mine too. At least for now, they are gone. They were very bad for a while. They can devestate your fish population quickly.
