Thank you for showing the festival. I remember one year when I was a kid where there were no rides. It was like a Christmas without a Santa. One of these years I will make it back to the island during the festival. My visits are normally later in the summer but I need to do it once. I used to collect the festival posters. They were always done by local artists and people would comment about how they enjoyed them. Thanks again and I enjoy your channel
Glad you enjoyed it! They still do the posters, still by locals! Although we’ve been a little light on rides, there’s always plenty of festivities & crab 🦀
Got to tell you, the fish toss, oh man, I had a pretty good laugh. The survival suit race looked like it would be fun to. Are we not blessed with the abundance that the sea gives us. I live on Vancouver Island. I have always lived in small coastal communities. Just love it. Hopefully one day I will make it to Alaska. Will I make it to Kodiak, well...
Vancouver Island is a nice place too (just a little more “civilized” than Alaska 😉). You should definitely try making the trip if you’re able to (the drive is gorgeous too).
@@Buoy4AK Civilized is not always a good thing. I have lived a good portion of my life on the island, (my other favorite island home being Haida Qwaii), it has changed so much, loosing so much of the small town vibe that always attracted me. But I love the mountains and the ocean so here I am.
Still remember when its moto was, "the most fun you can have in the rain". The National guard would have their M113's down by the boat harbor. They would let kids go up into the TCs postion to pop off some 50cal blanks. This was all back in pre 87.

One summer fishing Kodiak salmon in 99, truly the gem of Alaska.
In over a decade, still amazing to us 😉

It’s ever evolving, and fun (especially since they’ve brought crab back!)
Maybe I can come to next year's crab fest!
