An Original Off Grid Cabin | Ep. 8 | Wood Stove, Wood Floors - We Have Fire!

  • Spent a couple days at the cabin working on front door trim and finishing the door itself. Just need to add some weather stripping now.
Weather was cold enough to light wood stove and have first fire in cabin. Good news is the chimney and stove pipe works great and I didn’t burn the cabin down.
Worked on wood flooring as well.

I would sit quietly for hours and just stare into the fire, mesmerized by the soft crackling sound and the dancing flames. Such a great time filled with awesome memories. And what you can achieve color wise with a flame thrower is nothing less than Beautiful. I am a visual person. I was an art major years ago and the combo of your lighting and the rich warm hues of your interior really transports me. Great job! Your woodworking skills speak for themselves.....very loudly. Good progress this week. Thanks for sharing. Tell me, what is the theory about the burning/scorching of the wood? Is the flame closing the pores of the wood thus preventing water infiltration? How long will the benefit last? Do you have to re-scorch it every couple years? Greetings from Texas....John B.
