Suzi, totally engrossed by your telling of your story. Your internal power is exceptional. It was clearly already there when the Harris event happened and has persisted through your life. Wonderful that you had such a major impact
@@suzident1658 Suzi, there is a real need for unflinching leadership to hold accountable men that misuse their place in society to indulge their addiction. Clearly a large number knew about this at the time and didn't do anything. There is more support and opportunities for visibility these days. However this behaviour is still around.
@@herbertniesler320 it is still around and it takes time to reeducate the generational mindset that is still prevalent in society today. Slowly but surely things are changing.
@@suzident1658 I agree progress has been made and it will be a generational thing to embed any change. The combination of power and sex drive will provide the temptation to repeat these behaviours in different ways, further away from easy visibility. Epsteins Island is one such example. A lot of other areas will be easier to crack.
The other man you mentioned also horrifically assaulted dying children....he was also a very prominent Catholic and gave a lot to the church and to charity presumably as he / his priest seemed to think that would make it all acceptable come judgement day. As you say a total monster.
Where the silence of ignorance rules for years, the ability to break the wall to show the contents hidden within the silence is almost impossible. Suzi, you are a brave woman who has broken the barrier and shown the globe what we as victims of sexual abuse endure. Some endure at work, as you did, some isolated instances exacted upon victims, and others, within the family realm. As you know and understand SD mine involves a family who to this day protect, scapegoat me, and vilify the words I have spoken in support of those impacted. During the year leading up to the naming of Rolf Harris, I intuitively knew this was him. Men in power hold tremendous weight where wrongdoings are inflicted. I am so proud of all the women who stood tall, supported each other across the seas, and delivered the justice required. Some argue the sentence was too light - yes, maybe, but whether behind bars called jail or behind the walls of home, the identification of his acts of pain was now known - there is jail in that. May the world finally listen, finally step up to support, and finally acknowledge the lifelong damage sexual abuse inflicts. For in listening, and learning, from the acquired wisdom of victims, maybe, just maybe, change will filter through society, eventually orchestrating a new perception where understanding yields to non-protection of this crime.
Thank you JL the more we speak up, the more people will realise that this behaviour is unacceptable. I’m sad for what you and many of us have endured. When statistics show that 4 out of 5 women and 2 out of 5 men are sexually assaulted in their lifetimes, it is staggering.
@@tulipchic34 I was naive at 23 in 1986, you are right. The word paedophile was not bandied around as it is now. In a time where women could not get a bank loan unless a man went guarantor, not even a relative, any man would do. At a time where I got asssulted working in a bank by the bank manager at 18 in my first job out of high school, this sort of groping was not new to me. Women had to deal graciously with this sort of behavior constantly… boys will be boys and all that crap! I am telling my story from back then. At 62 now I lost my naivety decades ago.

You sound a little naive. This kind of stuff went on all the time in male dominated industries which was every industry back then.
