    everybody recommends the T16000 for general flight use, and even as an infrequent user of sim and the joystick itself I can say it was well worth it. the price is very reasonable; I bought it originally for elite dangerous but it works wonderfully for war thunder and even dcs without any major problems. the twist axis even works great if you don’t have the pedals.

    • @ZdrytchX
      @ZdrytchX 9 месяцев назад +5

      T.16k/m has good first impression quality but it has extremely bad longetivity except on the hall effect axis (which is superb, if you just lazily want hall effect sensors, this stick is fine). I looked up the failure rate and on average it has a first part failure of only 9 months. Mine started showing quality issues at a mere 5 months
      edit: I probably should clarify what went wrong:
      * I've only used the hatswitch maybe less than 100 clicks in total because my thumb just straight up doesn't reach it (asian hand size problems) and it was pretty much the first part to have input failure problems. As a result I've always kept my hatswitch bound controls double bound on my keyboard. I thought the logitech 3d pro was bad but at least I could access the buttons on that one and the issue wasnt so much the buttons themselves but rather the way the buttons were mounted to the motherboard which started bending after time - Not in the case of the T.16k/m: It just straight up fails to register inputs.
      * The potentiometers and hall effect sensors are excellently auto-calibrated by the drivers. On each first startup, keep the stick centred. Upon entering the game, just throw the stick and all axis across to the limits and recenter where applicable. DO NOT USE WINDOWS CALIBRATION. Anyway because of this they work very well, however the potentiometer itself in the twist axis is unbelievably unreliable. A bit of skipping is normal found on most sticks such as the throttle slider, but the twist axis has very dirty false input problems that can cause you to crash because it just goes full ham right rudder, left rudder on semi-random occasions. I legit unbound it and went for keyboard rudder because it was that much of a hassle.
      * Buttons on the top of the stick are really smushy and some of them quickly lose their "click" feel typical of membrane buttons from wear and tear.
      * Base buttons are nice if you're flying exclusively on stick but for me I prefer keyboard controls so they're useless af. I'd rather have more buttons on the stick itself.
      * Stick base has some pretty decent lubrication but you need to avoid stuff falling into the base otherwise they'll... get sticky. It's a pretty large opening and isn't covered by a rubber shield of any kind which is good if you're in a clean environment but can be annoying to have to maintain otherwise. Just keep that in mind

    for 500 Dollars you can get a VKB stick and throttle which will absolutely demolish this thing in every quality metric. Pay a little more for the Upgraded version of the Stecs (under 600 total) and you can have the STECS with the throttle detents and even more buttons. Yeah, if you play space sims I think twin VKB gladiator NXT EVO with an omni adaptor for your off hand is by far the best option on the market.
      Due to features like adjustable springs, axis locks and a dry clutch which you usually only find on top end sticks, you can turn the omni stick into a proper throttle in less than a minute, or your main stick into a cyclic for a helicopter.

    Man, for 500 bucks this seems rough considering the VKB Gladiator NXT EVO + VKB Stecs Mini Plus is $354 USD and those are much better even if you consider the fact this comes with desk mounts the equivalent VKB mounts are $208 so all in $562 for a much better product. Quality wise this looks like it competes with the T16000m or Logitech X56 and if this whole setup was closer to $250 it would be a good deal. Especially if you are doing somewhat casual use, the desk mounts seem a bit much. If you went for VKB Stecs Standard + VKB Gladiator NXT EVO, and no desk mounts you'd be looking at $414 all in and a much more practical setup (both the stick and throttle plug in at the back so you can unplug them move them off your desk without having to go behind your computer). I have this combo and the adjustable detents are great too, because once you set up the profiles you can swap between them with a button on the base. Some have also mentioned Winwing offerings in this price range that also certainly destroy this thing in quality.

      Having had owned the Thrustmaster T.16000 throttle and now the Thrustmaster Warthog throttle, those kinds of sliding throttles get bad stiction usually. Having one with throw, so the throttle handles are on a stick that rotates around an axis, makes the throttle so much smoother and nicer to use precisely. Just an idea to look at non-sliding throttle alternatives.

I really like that it comes with its own mounting system, and that by itself is a good chunk of the cost more than likely. I might as well just pick up an X56 for half the cost and its own mounting system then end up paying less still. @Veloreyn 9 месяцев назад

    For background, I started with the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro (at least post year 2000, had a couple others back in the 90's), upgraded to a T.16000m HOTAS and I just bought the VKB NXT Evo with their STECs Max setup. I had mounts already given to me as a Christmas gift a couple years back, I think those ran $60 for a set of two. For price comparison, the first is about $40 new, the second runs... I think around $170 new, and I paid around $560 for the VKB setup (though admittedly $80 of that was shipping from China to the eastern US). I used to play WarThunder a ton (started when it was only planes, then played a lot when they added ground forces, but haven't played too much since they added ships), now I focus mostly on DCS, MSFS, Elite Dangerous, and IL2.
    Just from looking at this HOTAS within the video, there's no reason to drop $500 on this. The stick looks clunky and sounds like it doesn't actually work particularly well. On top of poor choices in the types of buttons, it's a ball and socket stick which isn't going to feel any better than other cheaper options. The VKB NXT Evo by itself is around $170, and is an amazing stick that uses springs in a pincer style, with magnetic sensors, and has clutches to set the friction. The T16000m is a good stick, but those don't have particularly long life spans (the Z-axis fails a lot, which is what pushed me to upgrade)... It's also a ball and socket, but significantly cheaper than this. The throttle on the T16000m is adequate and works similar to this one, it's just not a split throttle. That being said, one of the things I hated about it is that it's straight foward and back on rails, which sticks a little even if you keep it lubed up. The STECs throttle through VKB is one of the best investments I've ever made in PC hardware, it feels that good to use. And with the Max addons, there are so many buttons that I can almost use the throttle system alone to fly in MSFS using autopilot functions I've programmed in.
    If you're going to spend $500, go with a premium VKB stick and either the STECs Standard or the STECs Max throttle. For around $400 you could get the standard stick and a STECs mini which is around the same functionality the HORI is shooting for here, and then get a $50-$60 set of mounting brackets. If you want to sacrifice quality to save money, go with the T16000m, just know that you'll either need to repair or replace the stick within about a year or so, or buy foot pedals for Z-axes control and disable it on the stick.

      Important to note that metal doesn't mean quality. I agree that this stick seems over priced, but a high quality plastic can last longer and be more hard wearing than a low quality metal. The VKB gladiators are plastic yet highly rated and will blow any metal sticks at that price range of the water when it comes to quality and durability.

    For $444 USD (Pre Tax/Shipping) - Currently in my cart on VKB's website I have my current VKB Gladiator NXT Premium Stick & my STECS Standard Throttle - an insanely higher quality HOTAS setup. I've actually had two VKB sticks for space flight sims for almost 3 years and they work like new. Just recently got into flight sims with the STECS Standard Throttle and VKB rudder pedals I picked up.
    The HORI Hotas could be a great fresh face & contender in the budget hotas market maybe around a $200-275 range (at best) but at $500 it's absolutely insane to even consider it next to so many other options. Even the good ol' X52 is a way better value.

    A couple weeks ago I bought the Winwing Orion2 set (f16EX stick, F18 dual throttle) for 350 euro. The price of this set is ehm lets say "significant", especially in comparison to the winwing sets that are (as far as I can say with my limited experience at the moment) excellent. I assume you pay quite a premium for the WT logo?

  • @turgeon1235
    @turgeon1235 9 месяцев назад +2

    They really mean it when they say this joystick is meant for war thunder players. Getting scammed is just one part of playing WT.
    But yeah just recently got into DCS, was able to successfully land my first attempt on a carrier with the F18, and I use the thrust master and it’s good.
    But this thing isn’t worth 500$. Maybe at 250 it could be fine but the only good thing I see is the throttle. Joystick just looks off

    From what I've got from this video my opinion is this, for new players just get the T1600 bundle from Thrustmaster and for more experienced players who really only only spend this kind of money on a throttle and joystick for the better quality/ more realistic feel/ features just stick to whatever you were going to get originally then this.

    I have played a handful of sim battles in the JAS-39 with the T16000M HOTAS, their handling is quite good but I cant use the HMD to its best degree. Honestly, if something works for DCS or BMS falcon it should work perfectly fine for war thunder sim.

    The only thing is that the mounts come with it; mounts alone can cost more than entry level HOTAS. Overall though it looks like I'd avoid this and either go with a cheaper desk mounted system for a first stick or just stump up the extra for mounting a better system. for $500 you're comfortably into Warthog territory and although the twist option and throttle rudder buttons are neat, it basically falls short in pretty much every way otherwise.

    VKB has come down in price... between the HOTAS or HOSAS setup you want, it really just depends on the option level you want... but it's more affordable than this, especially in the sense of quality and functionality.
    Hell... I'll give them props on the Throttle... but only because it's like, industry-standard at this point... and is basically a T16000 Throttle, but with split throttle axis. Different buttons for sure, especially on the base. But... that stick, no bueno. Hall Effect Sensors is a plus... but unless they have options to change out the grip... that thing needs to go back to the drawing board.

    I think I'd rather pop out the extra 100 and get the warthog or go cheap and snatch the x-55. I agree the mounting system makes up most of it's value, if I wanted to go top dollar I might go for VKB(I think). If they sell them seperate I'd probably consider the mounting system. But doesn't seem worth the cost to me. By itself I'd consider it for about $300-$350 range.

      If a flight stick is well laid out and has full hotas (so you don't have any buttons on a keyboard) then it's fine using them with VR. You'll get used to where the buttons are some they should mostly be within reach of your fingers without taking your hands off the sticks meaning you have a point of reference.
      Personally though, at this price I'd look at VKB or Winwing. Better quality, more features and more experience with flight sticks.

    Why would them having a HOTAS surprise you? They did the limited edition ones for Ace Combat 6. HORI is not known for their quality though and I wouldn't recommend investing that kind of money in this product. You can get a Thrustmaster Warthog for this price. Hell, I have a Saitek X56 Rhino that I paid half the price of this thing, with a 3rd party desk mount that still comes out to be cheaper and higher quality than this thing seems to be. Plus HOTAS for War Thunder is like the HOTAS for Ace Combat. It's over kill, and not worth it. Now if you wanted this for MSFS, IL-2, or DCS, I'd say go for the Thrustmaster, Virpl or Winwing or even the Saitek stuff before even considering a HORI product. I had the Ace Combat 6 edition that came with the HORI stick, and it was absolute crap, and I never used it, and eventually took it apart for parts for other projects and not longer have any of it now.
