Great job. I really liked it. But there are missing important options. For example, it would be much better to have saving in uncompressed or lossles formats - ffv1 / lagarith-YUV or YV12 and so on. However, the video you converted was of excellent quality and does not require further processing. But when someone like me tries to improve the quality of old video, he uses several editing programs. And constant rate quality is not the most preferred form of compression. Hi, I have a Issue, When I want to convert videos for more than 100fps I have a error "Stream #0: not enough frames to estimate rate; consider increasing probesize" There is a solution for this? Thanks!
When frame rate upscaling becomes fast and easy, would it not make more sense to encode in a lower frame rate and let this be done on playback? AFAIK, this is how AV1 handles intentional visual noise; it takes up most of the file size to encode in. AV1 takes that out of the encode and adds an approximation that video players are expected to mask the video with on playback. With frame interpolation done to create a new source, it just wastes additional encode time and some file size.
I see your point, but it’s not the reality right now, and probably won’t be for a long time. To get good frame interpolation in real-time requires high end hardware which 99.9% of the PC market doesn’t have. AV1 by itself isn’t efficient either. Regardless, it’s not ideal for laptops running on battery power either. The battery would be drained by real-time interpolation just as quick as if you were gaming. Most cell phones and other mobile devices wouldn’t be able to do this either. Storage is cheap, GPU and CPU power is not. Creating a new source is ideal so that it’s a one-and-done encode and when you open the video in a video player, it won’t have to interpolate the video every time.
@@DaGoose I'll give you that 'til already old hardware dies off. And as for battery powered devices. It maybe worth it for power savings in those cases. But, consider data costs and caps. I think VP9 is supported by nearly all devices currently in use. AVC by those and any that don't. Then you don't have to care about that if you only distribute through platforms that recode it anyway. I have a 4Mbps connection and often have to downgrade to 720p on YT, even if the video is encoded in AV1. Ludicrous, I live record to AV1 at 100Kbps 1080p, and it's higher quality than you could ever find live streamed the first few years people were live streaming online.

Hello! I love your program and it really helped me so much, but when I tried to convert a 4k resolution with a MKV format and then I played it, it looks like it's laggy like when you're playing a scratched dvd in a dvd player, what is the problem?
Is the lag consistant or only happens on certain scenes? If it’s not consistent, then nothing is wrong. Some frames are dropped as a result of using the interpolation.
