Great info. Just ordered our Hiker MRXL 5x10. Can't wait to " Go Out & Do Winter Camping." 😊 We've done Hammock Camping for many years. We will be using our 10 deg Down Top Quilts for sleeping. They have no zipppers and a pocket for your feet. Also, using wool socks and a top over base layer really works at keeping you warm.
Hiker has too many options, but all these video's helped immensely with selecting the hiker over others and sorting out the options. Need more hiker content to pass the time. Thanks for putting out the content on Hiker and useful gear considerations.
Great video. My wife and I took a short trip last week and did some cool weather camping. We did many of the same things to keep warm. Keep up the great work.
Great video! We have a Mission Overland trailer which is small like yours. So far have had it out in lows of 30. Great tips on layers and bedding. We tried the sleeping bags but like a real bed so bought bedding for trailer. May consider the reflection on canvas top of notice the furnace not keeping it comfortable but keeping fingers crossed. Keep up the good work! So many tips gotten from you guys 🙂
Great video and enjoy following your Hiker Trailer adventures as well. I also like to keep my socks in y bed at night so when I put on my cold boots I have warm feet to start my morning. Looking forward to you next video. Also, my Hiker Off Road is on order but there is a 400+ backlog now. Tom
Hay Matt it's me again you & your Wife are amazing you both give creative Ideas & lot's of food for thought. So thank you both every thumbs up for you is 10 Stars frome me for sure & I did Subscribed. Keep the videos coming I'm leaning towards the Hiker Extreme off road package. FYI Velcro for the Windows.
Thanks for posting great content. Because of your chanel I'm torn between Hiker (fully built) or a Wee Roll and build it myself. When calculating time, tools, and my learning curve, I'm leaning toward the Hiker more and more. Keep up the wonderful videos.
Investing in a good sleeping bag would deliver surprising results. I bought a nice north face sleeping bag for 2 people that has different settings and we dont get cold. If temps drop below teens we use a mr. buddy heater. We also use it to heat the tent sometimes on warmer temps like 20s, 30s, before going to bed. Have you tried the mr. buddy? much more efficient to heat up the tent with propane than electricity. We are planning to use it on our hiker camper (being built) and turning the maxxfan to the lowest setting and cracking a window to avoid condensation and bring in fresh oxygen. In combination with a CO detector, which we use in the tent.
We borrowed our friend's Mr buddy heater for this trip - we are looking to get our own this year. We also had the maxxfan on lowest setting with window cracked. We are working on a cover for our AC prep that can allow fresh air in/bugs out. Being a fireman - a CO detector is a must!
Hey Matt! just wanted to let you know that a person produces 2 pints of water just breathing in cold temps sleeping.also I just wanted to know if your red&white**and yellow lights are still up and running good? Thanks for the name of them. April 19th HIKER TRAILER deposit time!! for me!☺😎
We had the maxxfan on lowest setting with window cracked. We are working on a cover for our AC prep that can allow fresh air in/bugs out. Glad to hear you are putting your deposit down- get out and do some camping!
Can you run the inside mini desk heater while camping off-grid? Or do you need to be connected to shore power to use the power strip in the back galley? And thanks for another great video! My wife and I have been binge watching all of yours in preparation for getting our midrange Hiker Trailer in March/April 2021.
I'm assuming they were plugged into AC at their campsite, or else he likely would have explained by how much that would deplete their battery(s) running all night. How many watts you can run/draw (for how many hours?) depends on your battery capacity, and having an inverter. Presently I only have a small battery which allows me to run lights for a few nights without recharging.
@@MWDAdventures Thanks for confirming that you run that heater off shore-power AC. I just got done putting a layer of 1 inch rigid insulation (Foamular® pink board, NOT styrofoam) on the floor of my 4x8 Hiker, in anticipation of a couple days off-grid camping in Colorado next week. But I may not go if the forecast shows a night-time low of under 20°. I also use the Hypervent under the mattress, thanks for the tip.
@@MWDAdventures Can you run that little 250 Watt heater off the basic 32 Ah AGM battery package (w/ solar panels) when off grid? Looking at quotes now. Thanks
Nice video Matt. Excellent point about the power strip overloading and going ablaze. Any idea what the maximum wattage for the Hiker-installed power strip is?
Hi Matt. Can I please ask where you purchased that awesome colorful hiking, outdoors blanket. The one with bigfoot on it :) thanks in advance. Love the videos up in Alberta Canada.
I have a question, I like to know about your Gazelle out door shelter where I might be able to purchase one? Thanks again for the videos, plz, keep them coming? Thanks again for the cold weather camping info! Thank again Eric Sulen Grand Rapids Michigan.
Hiker Trailer suggested I contact a current owner concerning the must-have customizations for a Hiker Trailer. I'm looking to purchase, but am wondering what are the most helpful accessories/customizations. Thanks for any thoughts.
Hi David - We wanted to keep ours simple, then figure out how we used it and add on from there. But from the get go I would suggest: second door, tool box for all the dirty (outdoor) stuff, roof rack, awning (we love our 270* - covers the back galley), 24" deep galley, closed off galley (only have a pass through) for bug prevention, Max fan, side table, propane mounted by the side table, solar prep if you have any thoughts of going off grid. Things we have added that we love: 23 Zero shower room (changing room), lights (I love my lights!), extra shelf in the interior (under the custom ones), the top shelf of the galley is divided so some storage in the interior and the other half in the galley (divider was determined by the size of the container we wanted to use in the galley). We had our top shelf lowered a few inches to accommodate the containers we bought. Hope this is helpful - have a great day.
@@MWDAdventures Thanks Matt. It is helpful. I think I had everything on the list except for the deep galley, closed off galley, and propane/solar stuff. How many lights? Did you get all of them? I'm about ready to send in the deposit. Any other suggestions? We will be pulling it with a Ford Escape rated at 2000 pounds...so I'm trying to keep things as light as possible. We did get the electronic brakes (but will have to update our electric from 4 to 7 pins).
@@DavidMullens as for lights, I am definitely a lights guy, if you haven't noticed. We have one exterior light near each side door - but ours were wired with a switch inside that controls both side. If we did it again, we would request for it to have a switch on the light itself on the outside or wired to separate switches inside as we don't need the driver side on very often and it shines on our neighbors. We have a big square one on the back, but don't use that one very often. We got the electric brakes also. We are going to release a video here soon on the weight of our trailer - basically with all we have on ours our weight came in at 1640#.
Is the Hiker trailer fully insulated? I watched the build video episode 1, and they showed insulation in the ceiling, but it cut out after that, and they don't have a episode 2 as of yet, so I would really like to know if they also insulate the walls and floor?
Have you ever come across someone with a propex heater? I do not recall seeing a trailer with a propex installed in any of your videos to date. But I know Hiker offers a propex setup. Just wondering.
@@MWDAdventures Hi Matt. Can I ask how many linear feet you ordered? I see that it comes in strips of 39 inches wide so would need 2 prices to cover the width of a queen size. Thanks in advance :)

Try a electric blanket on the mattress 30 min's before bed, turn it on pulls out the cold then jump in to a supper warm bed
i hear alot of people do this I might have to pick up a electric blanket and try it . thanks for watching.
Rechargeable hand warmers are wonderful. Many of the ones out there double as phone chargers too
that AC Prep is flipping GENIUS YALL!
We like it . works for both the winter and summer.
I grew up in the greenville michigan area I've since moved to find work but still enjoy the outdoors 👍

It is just a normal power strip - you would have to check with Hiker to find out what their model can handle.

Can a hiker be towed without breaks? Are they needed?
So is the side of the hiker just wood or is there any insulation at all?
It is the baltic birch and then the aluminum outer shell. No insulation in the walls. There is an air pocket in the roof for some insulation.
how long would that little heater run off a jackery battery?
We did a video of how long things would run on the jackery in this video, including the space heater: ruclips.net/video/S94ZQTU3AYc/видео.html
Solo stove is the best for a portable smokeless campfire.
We have heard that from other campers too - we will have to check one of those out.
