Parker never gets any respect imo.
He was the first one to suggest that they don't investigate LV-426.
He didn't want Ash watching his back because he didn't trust him.
    He saved Ripley from Ash.
He died trying to save Lambert, even with his last words.

At 08:16, Upon making contact, the Facehugger administers a cynose-based paralytic in order to render it unconscious and immobile. After a successful attachment, the Facehugger will insert the ovipositor down the host's throat while simultaneously implanting an embryo. The Facehugger would remain attached to the host for anywhere from less than a minute to 16 hours, keeping them alive by aiding in their breathing to prevent the host from being smothered

I was 20 when Alien was released. I saw it at the drive in with my mom. Since then I've regarded it as the best blend of sci fi, suspence, and horror I've ever seen. The creator design is still my favorite. Our brains aren't made to recognize it, especially in shadows until it starts to move. Right before it kills Brett there's a shot of it swinging in the chains right above him and even though I had seen the movie many times I still didn't see it untill someone pointed it out. The only movie I would place in its category is Pontypool, a small independent film. But only watch it when you have a very good sound system. The soundscape is layered and it's everything.
The sequel Aliens is brilliantly written and the seven years we had to wait for it worth it. It makes a very logical genre shift, while discovering new information about the creature.

The fact that Ripley is a woman has nothing to do with it. The robot didn't listen to her because he was following the instructions given to him, the other woman didn't listen to her because she wanted to save a crew member, and the commander was just stupid.

"It's got a great defense mechanism. You don't dare kill it."
Classic sci-fi horror. The tension is so thick, you will need a sharp steak knife in order to cut it.
The voice of "Mother" is so iconic, in my honest opinion. There's something unnerving about a cold feminine voice counting down to your death. It wasn't until GLaDOS that we rediscovered that a computerized female voice can be absolutely creepy.
Fun Fact: In H.R. Giger's original illustrations that inspired the look of the Alien, the creature had eyes. For the movie, Giger insisted that the creature have no eyes, thus giving the bleak appearance of a cold and emotionless beast that hunts by smell.
Real Guts Fact: The dead facehugger that Ash (Ian Holm) autopsies was made using fresh shellfish, four oysters, and a sheep kidney to re-create the internal organs. Filming had to be done quickly because the organic material would go bad very fast under the studio lights.
Bloody Solution Fact: It was conceptual artist Ron Cobb who came up with the idea that the Alien should bleed acid. This came about when Dan O'Bannon ran into a wall with the screenplay on how to handle the last half of the movie. He needed a good reason for why the crew members don't just shoot the thing and kill it but still not make it an indestructible monster that can't be killed. The acid blood was the idea that solved this problem.

Decapitated, inert, and turned into a body horror extravaganza, Ash's "innards" sprawl about the ship's floor, white ooze dripping from them. This reveals what the "milk" from earlier in the movie was: a sort of diagnostic fluid that helped his interior systems run.

I will say that in a lot of horror movies people don’t take the most fundamental precautions that one should and would take, in the real world, WITHOUT knowing they’re in a horror movie.
This movie explains it fairly well IMO-they’re not at all prepared or seemingly even trained for any of this (since Parker forgot / didn’t realize it was in their contract). The Captain may seem fairly calm, but his decisions are based on fear. He wants to break quarantine and then leave right away, when the ship is broken, because he’s afraid.

9:55 Nope, the reason Ash didn't listen to Ripley wasn't because she is a woman, but because... well, you saw, he's an android, an android programmed to get a xenomorph to Earth, and anyone standing in his, and the company's way, would be "dealt" with, as mother said, crew expendable. This movie is kinda unique, it is one of the few movies with an awesome sequel. They should have left it at two, though. The third movie is ok I guess, even though I am not a big fan of the beginning of it, but it's scary enough, so I guess it does its job as a horror/sci-fi movie. Let's not talk about Resurrection, especially not the ending. I actually prefer the AvP movies to Resurrection.

@@scottneil1187 I have watched it, it was a long time ago though, but if I remember it correctly, the scene I don't like about the beginning of 3 is still there. And they have changed another scene in the beginning, so it doesn't have the same emotional impact. That said, it's far from the worst movie I have ever watched, it does its job. And Ripley is always Ripley. Well, almost always, anyway. Yeah, Resurrection has some cool scenes, and good acting, but at a certain point in the movie, I had a "hmm, ok, that's... odd 🤔" moment, and a few scenes later I thought "no, just no... 🙄" But as a scary sci-fi movie it's pretty effective, I just think they took a few liberties too many with the Alien lore. But then again, I guess it's nothing compared to what other media, mostly comics I guess, have done with it.

      That's a good point.
      Except.
Any and every ship on Earth's oceans will respond to a distress call to save another ship that's sinking.
They ALL do rescue missions whenever needed.
Possible exceptions only for super secret military or spying missions, but everybody else will rescue anybody else.
Also, on Earth, the nearest ship that might come to a rescue is 4 hours away.
In this movie, the nearest ship is a minimum of 6 weeks away, could be much, much more.
      That changes things.

    Multiply that by 4

These guys in this movie just slept for about 10 months.
Dallas says they are "halfway to Earth" and Lambert says it will take "ten months to reach Earth" so I draw from those two lines that they slept about 10 months prior to waking up right here.

When they woke up, Dallas talked to Mother and said "we are about halfway home."
Later, Lambert told them that the trip home to earth would take 10 months.
You do the math - if 10 months is half the trip, that means the first half was also about 10 months which is how long they were asleep at the start of this movie
I guess the Nostromo, a tow truck with a gigantic refinery, is slower than a military ship 57 years later.
