Just finished my starter replacement… pain in the ass!!!!! I did remove the bolt on the motor mount and jacked up the engine. This made getting the old starter out and the new one in easier…. I agree the better option is to remove the exhaust manifold

I just tackled mine yesterday. Still waiting on new starter from RockAuto, but removed the original starter. While I can appreciate trying to take it out by the tranny-cooler and exhaust pipe, I watched an older video of a dad and kid who separated the solenoid from the starter body and then pulled it out between the front axle and the lower control arm. I had it out within 10 min of separating the bolts from the bell housing. The real bear was the heat shields. Once you see how easy it is to separate the solenoid (two 10mm nuts), you won't want to do it any other way.

man that's some tight quarters in there to get that starter out , but you did it with some better ideas for the next time some one has to take it out .

Yes my first Tundra and hopefully my last one but if I have to do another I'd drop the exhaust pipe right away.

So after R&R it this way, do you think you'll remove the exhaust manifold next time? You did have to remove that exhaust pipe anyways. Getting that pigtail from a rav4 was a clutch move! What a save!

I would try lifting the engine on the right side next time. I hope there isn't a next time though...

The concern with the exhaust manifold is all the what-ifs... Snapping a manifold bolt will ruin an already sucky day.

I felt for you on that one~ yea new engineering is a good thing some times~ auto makers are something else sometimes. Nice going 👍💯

Great video as always man! I've done many over the years and yes, the starter will come our through our the fender well. Those heat shield bolts are no joke lol

I did mine, the tire out of the way was easier. But it is a pain.

Hmm it's not for everyone. Some of our 50bstates will not participate in the relief. So basically this is not for Americans. Just for lovers who impede our great nation. Thanks for taking care of us Uncle Sam. You're the biggest scam out there
