    Being an old mechanic on disability now (was in the repair business for 30 years) I depend on RUclips for information about what I'm looking at for a job. It's a breath of fresh air that I didn't have to listen to the story of your life, or your current dilemma, and you got to the point. You covered the system very well and in the order I would have taken. I swear by the logic probe, and believe it to be an essential tool. Thank you for the video, and the way you presented it!

    I just bought a 2012 Tundra 5.7 with 76k miles on it. So far I love the truck and I hope I don't have this problem, but now I know where to look if it becomes an issue. I do have a power probe as well.

    Thank you. Saved me some time. I used a 12V to power up the starter via fuse box. Turned over. Was about to pull remanned starter I installed a few weeks back. Ended up being a fuse that was working off and on. Wiggle it and it wouldn't start.

    With the relay slightly pulled out can I just use a jumper wire and jump the two or is it only possible with a test probe or a 12v source coming from the battery too? I jumped a wire from the right top corner and the back most post standing from the fender side and all I got was a click. Assuming my starter is toast. Battery tested good but it’s over 5 I think… thanks

    This is an amazing video. I have a similar problem in my 08 tundra. I have an odd static sound under the hood and when I bridge the starter relay post it stops but if I remove the bridge it continues. So I think that I am going to run a wide from the s post on the starter to a switch than the battery with a 30 amp inline fuse . Is this a bad idea? I did a quick mock up and It operates the starter that I have not reinstalled yet. I just ran cables to it. But afterwards when the key is in the dashboard lights up fire. But when you turn the key further the dashboard go's off 🤦. If you have the time I would love to hear your thoughts. I think I watched this video 15 times.

      @Aldo Anaya well I had no luck tracking down the electric debacle. However I am up and running now I clipped the "s" starter wire cnd caped it off and ran a new wire to a $6.00 push button start then on to a 30 amp in-line fuse then straight to the positive post on the battery along with a new starter and she works great. I still wish I knew what the real reason for this issue is but not enough to hand over my hard earned cash to Toyota HA.

  • @spelunkerd
    @spelunkerd 2 года назад +1

    That's a fun case study. I almost spilled my coffee when you powered the starter motor directly from your Powerprobe. My probe has a 10A circuit breaker, and that circuit typically draws >200A. I had to laugh at how your scan tool was misleading, actually increasing your work flow. I wish manufacturers would offer more info on these data pids to help understand results. Do you know what the purpose of that starting diode is? Is it there to protect the electronics of the key switch from inductive spikes or ghost voltage coming from the relay?

    Gotta love the mice and rats. They love the wires after they were dipped in soy or peanut oil to cool the plastic surrounding the wires. I heard Honda was able to get their class action lawsuit thrown out but people are still fighting with Toyota. A person from work just bought a new 2020 Prius and the mice did $6,800 damage in one weekend. I know they got both my Honda and a Toyota in one weekend.. I purchase some of Honda's "pepper" electrical tape hope that solves the problem. Any one else have a solution to this problem?

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  4 года назад +3

      I had no idea that they get in oil to cool them. Guess that makes sense why rodents like the wires. I think a pretty good solution is having an outdoor cat. My cat turbo takes care of any mice or Rats on the property. He's always on the prowl

    • @nzuncovered1845
      @nzuncovered1845 2 года назад

      Mice chew through wires because their teeth are constantly growing, so they have to chew on something to stop their teeth from growing into their skull, they don't actually eat the wires because they like the taste. They like wires because of the convenient shape being easy to fit in their mouth and there being plenty of them.
