They are maybe the least pretentious band in such genre, even their sound ends up to be that big… because what they do is always about something they feel, something they urge to tell. Their efforts doesn’t come from trying to be this or that, but sharing something and welcoming us to join them, totally unpretentiously. That’s why we feel so much truth in Sharon’s singing
She is a completely self taught singer. She has consistently stated that in interviews over the years, in a 2023 interview she said she did go to a vocal coach or teacher years ago and they told her there was nothing they could teach her because she was already doing everything correctly and was not harming her voice. If you are wondering what made want to sing in the first place it was when she saw the movie Grease when she was about 5 or 6 years old, she still says Olivia Newton John is one of her favourite singers. Also, have you listened to anything from Sharon's solo album called My Indigo? It's very different from Within Temptation, she describes it as a kind of self therapy as she wrote it in 2017 when she had some personal issues caused by burn out and other factors. She said writing My Indigo is the only reason Within Temptation still exists as a band and that she almost quit music altogether when she was at her lowest point. Thankfully she found her way through it and we still have her and WT making amazing music.

Within Temptation was my gateway drug to Symphonic Metal. I've not always been a fan of the more mainstream sound they've adopted, but this song, dude, this song is excellent. "I don't need salt to know where it hurts," that line resonates so much.
I love this band. I'm a fellow Dutchie and I'm so proud of the fact that they're from my homeland because we don't have a lot of popular metalbands like this. Sharon's voice is amazing, you should really check them out live if you have the chance! It's such an experience!

Within Temptation was literally the first band I ever heard. And they made me 1. LOVE female lead vocals and 2. made some of the best moments in my life. Like seeing them live and having met Sharon once I can only say good thing - no - the best things. I cant describe how grateful I am to have had this opportuinity. Also her voice is SO good, even live. So what I wanted to say is: I totally understand ehy you cried. I do sometimes too hearing them and I even did on one of their concerts just bc they played my all time fav song of them. Yeah. Music literally makes us feel stuff so hard. :D

I know some people aren't as fond of their newer music, but I am in love with them all because each one speaks to me on an emotional, mental level. I can relate to them all, and Sharon's voice is phenomenal in every song I have heard her sing. This is is my favorite one of the new singles, however. With all that is going on in the world, this is the most prominent topic to sing about and it is how my husband and I have been feeling since we were teenagers and we are currently in our 30's.

Sharon Simone simons (epica) and Floor Jansen both had singing lessons from Anneke van Giersbergen . she is seen as the mother of "metal" vocal coaches in the netherlands. worth to check her out as well.
For me this title marks the return of a great Within Temptation... they've always been amazing, but I hadn't felt that power and quality since the Silent Force album... other than that, I love your smile, you're beautiful.

The album Enter their first album is really different as well. It got growling in it and everything. They used to make Symphonic Metal now they make more Symphonic/Alternative Rock.
