Young people need to hear this. Getting into situations even down to toxic relationships that inevitably will end up getting most likely the fella convictions. I agree with what ye say about the vetting system. When you serve your time and have proven commitment to change people have to be given a chance of employment and to better themselves and the lives of their families. Great talk guys

The utmost of respect to all an inspirational hour again ... there should be a reform of some description to help people recover from mistakes of youth which result from a variety of causes .... people are still too quick to judge and stigmatise and unwilling to forget or give credit where it is due ..... So many Prisoners of Birth in this world not allowed to break free of a life sentence due to a postcode or family circumstances.....
Damien is another brilliant example of humanity and determination
I advise everyone to watch the podcast ..... James, and Timmy along with Lynn Ruane after her appearance here have become my heroes of lockdown and I cannot forget Gillian who’s story was incredible, honest and sincere.... after sharing a coffee recently I was honoured and blessed to listen to such gratitude for life but listening to the struggle and obstacles to move beyond the past is as much a crime of which society is guilty of denying others freedom ...
Congratulations on your achievements to date and I’m sure things will get better by the day for you all ...

Very raw courageous interview from Damian. Fair play. Should be visiting every school in Ireland talking about his experience. Convictions should absolutely be expunged after a period of constructive behaviour.

Weekly fix got, can't wait for the next one.
Yet another GREAT podcast. Well done lads, AND Gillian. Good man Damien - God love him.
"Judging" people by their PAST criminal records and them not getting jobs based on them would be enough to most definitely push some, if not most, over the edge and back into a life of "crime" - I would assume it would be a thought pattern of "that's all I'm ever going to be seen as, so I may as well continue to be just that" - terribly self destructive behaviour. Good on Timmy, and others, for reintergrating "criminals" back into the workplace without judgement.
In my very humble opinion, there needs to be a serious mindshift around people's pasts, in general.
    PS: Sound relationship advice 😁

I wonder how I can link in with Damien? I'm interested in the RPL for myself and others as I am a Smart Recovery facilitator and many of the peers have reintegration and unverified skills issues. I am very interested in setting up a halfway house/retreat/re-education ctr for recovering addicts esp those who had traumatic childhoods which as we know can lead to addiction. Great podcast, full of hope and a brighter future for society's scapegoats ❤

there is a first for everything taking a weekend off from a prison sentence >lol . I really enjoyed listing to Damien he spoke really well however is it a sad state that a person is focused and determined to seek a road of recovery has to be haunted by there convictions , the powers that are yak on about mental health yet there are so many needless obstacle's that could be fixed , a more insure and vulnerable e person could easily head back down the wrong path to addiction because the life they are trying to exist from keeps getting thrown back at them at every opportunity to help themselves. politicians please listen . i had a similar experience where i had to take my name of the council list so my girlfriend and son could be housed because of my convictions .
