Auf den Reisen zwischen ihrem Geburtsland Mali, den Vereinigten Staaten, dem Nahen Osten und Europa schreibt Rokia Traoré eine Musik, von der sie selbst behauptet, sie sei „weder Pop noch Jazz noch Klassik -- sondern etwas sehr Zeitgemäßes auf traditionellen Instrumenten".
Diesem Anspruch bleibt auch Beautiful Africa treu (erschienen am 1. April 2013), eine Zusammenstellung höchst moderner Kompositionen, die auf traditionellen aber auch elektronischen Instrumenten eingespielt wurden.
Mit brillanter Stimme und Gitarre um den Hals präsentiert die Künstlerin ihr neues Album, das von den (Miss-)Klängen dieser Welt inspiriert wird. So hinterlassen darin auch die tragischen Ereignisse in Mali ihre Spuren, ob in einer Ode auf den alltäglichen Mut der Frauen in Bamako oder in einer leidenschaftlichen Hommage auf ihre Heimat -- und nicht zuletzt auf den ganzen afrikanischen Kontinent.

Mali ist wirklich die Quelle unglaublich kreativer Musik. Okay, der Ursprung der griots, der alten afrikanischen Sänger.

Un trait d'union entre l'Afrique et l'Occident pour aller chercher ce que l'humanité a de plus beau! Le savoir-vivre ensemble par le droit et le devoir pour chacun, d'exister en offrant à son voisin ce que l'on a de mieux et en espérant recevoir la même chose de lui. C'est la vraie richesse.
Rokia Traoré et ses amis nous prouvent par l'art que cela est réalisable. Tirons-en les leçons et allons de l'avant si cela nous est possible(...!).

Rokia sang to my soul and stole my heart. This concert was intimate, pure of sound, and rhythmic. I cried from happiness and inspiration.
É a primeira vez que ouço suas músicas e, de cara já fiquei encantada com seu ritmo, sua voz e sua desenvoltura instrumental. A África sempre presenteou o mundo com grandes e talentosos artistas, que muito contribuíram com os desenvolvimentos de todas as artes, além da musical, sobretudo para o Ocidente. De certa forma, em menor ou maior grau, temos, nós brasileiros, temos algum vínculo no passado, com a Mãe África, a qual devemos - de fato - muita gratidão.

Maybe I should not appear here again… but… but… after looking at a lot of music and a lot of good music at that… I am back to enjoy the sublime and poetic beauty of this concert. Like you look at a painting by Rafael, or maybe Monet? Perhaps a painting with lots of flowers by Chagall? This is Rokia… What it is (can be) to be human… this is Rokia… this is all these wonderful people. This wonderful concert. Thank you all.

The light...the music..the whole air is absolutely magical,like a dream
you're right. But the camera director is terrible. 200 times moving up from her guitar up to her breasts to her face, but all the good atmosphere coming from the other musicians is not captured... sadly... except the male guitarrist has a bit more attention than the rest. I believe, longer cuts could even raise the atmosphere on video. But it's just my feeling ;-)

The first track is pure beauty
Da Vida It is. And confounding. The instrumentation, the song structure, the dynamic range, all confounded my expectations. I have listened to Rokia Traore recordings for over ten years, but watching this performance I am struck how her personal intensity draws it all together. As if daring you to look away. Fortunately there is no reason or need to look away.
Da Vida And the koure is brilliantly done. My only reference point is an album collaboration between Taj Mahal and AliFarke Toure, as I recall. The traditional and modern strings are blended more successfully here.
