I don't get how the one lady knew the other lady was gay. I did not hear any dialogue to suggest that. Back then I don't think you could just hit on a lady like this.
Gay men and gay women have been using their "gaydar" to spot each other forever. There were glances of interest in the restaurant, eye contact that was just a few seconds too long, bold flirting disguised as snarky joking in the "powder room".... It was probably a bit faster and bolder than it might have been IRL back then--dramatic license, to show Anita charming Della off her feet and moving quickly into their romance, but we've always been able to find each other. There are stories of many Hollywood gays who had multiple affairs, especially back in the Roaring '20's and the '30's when people in the arts and "show biz" were pretty bohemian. Also, it wasn't as risky for a woman to hit on another woman as it would be for a man to do to another man. If the other woman wasn't gay, she might not even realize she was being hit on. (Real life example: My mother, who came of age a decade later than this period, told me a story of a slightly older, attractive female fellow art-lover possibly trying to pick her up in the middle of the afternoon in an art museum in NYC...I think she only thought back on it after she'd gotten comfortable with me being gay and wondered if that was why that complete stranger was being so friendly. My mother was a pretty attractive and very shapely woman when she was younger and may have inadvertently given off "sapphic" vibes, given how much she liked looking at women. (I suspect she'd have been bi or gay if she was more self-aware and not so concerned with conforming to societal expectations.) Shortly after that encounter, she met and fell for another art and culture-lover, a brainy nerd, not-so-attractive but with a great sense of humor...the young man who she soon married and who eventually became my father.) Meanwhile, I've always been so shy with attractive strangers, and sometimes clueless, I don't even approach women in gay settings! 🥲 I got no game.
Right! a girl wearing a rainbow bracelet, t-shirt will hit on me and I'll assume she's an ally and being friendly.😂😂 Ps. I live in a homophobic country
@@kimwang2787 LOL, but I'm pretty sure an ally doesn't wear rainbow stuff unless maybe at a Pride fest or parade. Sorry to hear you live in a place that is unsafe and where you probably feel you have to be completely closeted. Please consider moving to the biggest cosmopolitan city or another country where it'll be easier to find other wlw. Best regards.
She was dating Hazel when she started seeing Anita, which made it kinda hard for me to root for them. But Hazel eventually caught on, and they broke up.
@@staredwards268 I have only watched season two and thats mainly because of them-but does she meet hazel in the first season? Thank you so much for the reply
