Oh yes, I am wise But it’s wisdom born of pain Yes, I’ve paid the price But look how much I gained If I have to, I can do anything I am Strong I am Invincible I am Woman.
In 1977, I entered the US Army. This song got me thru the hard parts of basic training, & then in my stint of service dealing with white male "superiors". Thank you Helen Reddy! RIP
@Sunny bob Quackers Not sure why you brought up Black men... or the right to vote. My 1st duty stationed, the ratio of men to women was 22 to 1. And I entered the Army right after WACs were abolished & we were all enlisted women. A lot of NCOs & officers were stuck in the past or just not accepting of women in a male dominated society.
2023: I played this 48 year old song for my grand daughters, 10 and 13. They were inspired and overwhelmed by how much it matched their feelings and aspirations as young women in the evolved world. God bless, Helen, for your timeless words. They have put it into their play lists.
This was a monster hit back in the day. My friends and I used to write down the lyrics to our favorite songs and memorize them. This was definitely one of our favs.
Helen Reddy had to face hardship and many years of being unnoticed of her musical talents until she was finally recognized. The song was an inspiration for many women but also serves how to overcome her struggle in a business dominated by men.
The fact that Helen Reddy sang this amazing song calmly and with such conviction is awesome and a testimony to her wonderful voice, but the most amazing part is that she wrote this song. It is one of the best and long surviving inspirational songs ever written.
Hellen Reddy was a hero . I used to sing this song to my Mom way back in the 70s when she was leaving my Father who likely would Have killed us eventually if she wouldn’t have left him. I just left a very abusive relationship myself and Will never be put on the floor again. I listen to this song everyday now. It’s my anthem. I am strong! I am invincible! I am woman!!! Thank Helen , your song has helped save lives. Thank you! RIP. ❤️🙏
@Shannon Murphy No doubt there is a strong connection for many women with Helen Reddy and her music. Women who have shared the same struggles and similar situations...and survived.
What a stellar performance of one of the 70's great anthems. You can see the emotion and strength in her eyes as she sings; she's beautiful and powerful.
Helen Reddy turned to be my role model for woman back in 1975 when i heard this song when i was 16 years old. iT is still a lift me up song till today. I am glad that United Nations gave her that honor by choosing this as their theme. This song is relevant today as much as it was back then. Thank you, Helen . RIP Beautiful legend.
Hiya I am 68 n remember this all so very very deeply in my soul that even now tears run down my face as I listen n am now turning my 13 granddaughter on to activism n this all ✌✌✌
Wouldn't it be great to have shows like this once again, that are not entirely 'made up' and prearranged, but are spontaneous and sweet? Actually, even having truly 'live' events of any sort is getting rare these days...
Helen Reddy was a classy lady, a pioneer and a great singer. She passed away in 2020 but her legacy has not been apreciated in the way it should be! A great injustice!
The year that Helen released that Song was about the time I was 16 or 17 year's of age. Man was life constantly changing back then? So it was an extremely moving Song along with the Women's Rights movement gaining more n more momentum all the Time then. But for Me it was an Eye 👁️👀 opener too My Mother & Aunt's previous Career's during WWII when they had done what the Men were supposed too be Doing. Boy did it point out the equality thing really well ❤️🩹❤️🩹. So Thank You for Sharing & May God Bless US All. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
I was fortunate to see her in a free concert that was given in LA during the summer in the 70's. It was called the LA Street Scene, where there were local bands, and some known bands, like War were playing in various stages there. But the big event was Helen Reddy, her performance started right at sundown, whereby she was flown in by a helicopter. And she performed on the biggest stage there, that is a performance I have cherished always. I was lucky to have witness greatness. Thank You Helen Reddy
Yes we are strong and we need empowerment of this song adds to our strength too deal with issues today go helen sing sing we all. Listening we hear you go helen makes me feel strong thank you
Was listening to a replaying of a Top 40 from 75, and I am not kidding, Casey Kasem introduced her as "This little girl all the way from Australia who has the number one song in the USA." It was this song, no less. Lesson noted and ignored I guess.
I am one of thousands of women that have had the honor of seeing her live in concert. I was about 13 or so and she was one of my biggest inspirations. They say MEN are strong WO MEN are even stronger. She is a force and I have carried her inside me to this day. Gender does not mean you are incapable. HELEN REDDY is IN-vincible and EMpowering. A light in all of us burns bright due to her......

Helen Reddy IS woman..She looks it, she sings it, she feels it, she loves it, she's so thrilled about it...She wants everyone in the world to know about it...And I can't believe in High School in the mid 70's we hated this song when it came on the radio because we were totally into Hard Rock...And that 'Boys are better than Girls' attitude that most kids have as a teenager.....I never realized how awesome, and cool, and beautiful, Helen Reddy was...And all her fantastic songs...God Bless Helen Reddy....frankm62yroldwhitekid.....P.S. She would have made a good woman President...If she wasn't so busy her whole life..lol

I don't know who that young girl is but I don't think it's Traci. It doesn't look like Traci, other than the girl is about Traci's age at the time. Also, I know Traci was painfully shy at that time and never wanted to be in the spotlight. She did everything she could to avoid it. This young girl looks like she's enjoying it.

Yeah this is just more than just a song!!
I want to sing this on a stage and point my finger on the person who cause me pain on the words "born of pain"
We all woman and men could learn a lot from this song
