Building The World's Biggest Truck Tires!

- Welcome to Bridgestone's Aiken plant, where they manufacture the world's largest truck tires for mining operations across America and abroad!
They were kind enough to tour us through the plant from start to finish, and I honestly think it was the most organized manufacturing plant tour I've ever had.
We checked out where they mixed the rubber, added the steel reinforcement, built each piece of the tire, assembled everything, and vulcanized the rubber to prepare it for the world's harshest environments.
A LOT more goes into building a tire than I thought, and I'm thrilled they let us share it with you!

I never tire of these videos.... 🙂
I see what you did there
😂😂😂
Good one 😂😂😂
That joke never gets tired.

And if you want a giggle out of the driver of a 400 ton hauler just shout "HEY, DO A BURNOUT!" 😁😁😁
I love how humble Aaron is to tell us when he’s made a mistake or doesn’t really understand the process and finds the correct explanation
AS much as I appreciate the video it might have been better for the future to have one of his guides explain the process. It sounded like Aaron barely had wrapped his own head around what was happening before he tried to explain it to us.
I hauled a couple loads out of Michelins plant in Lexington. The 13.5’ tires are about ten thousand pounds each. They knew all the PPE in the world wouldn’t save you if one fell on you so you’d see lots of guys loading in shorts and sandals. It’s cool to see how they’re putting together and inside the factory.
Working up in fort McMurray I built a pad for the Kal Tire workshop to change these tires out on the 797's. I'll never forget one day I was working there and one of the Kal Tire guys hopped in a 797 and full on drifted it through the mud and into the workshop. Those tires are a lot bigger in person
Dude every vid is better than the last keep going i will never get sick of this 😊 you dont crap on just get the facts. Sick bro from Australia
Hearing that Alan Bradly alarm brings me back to the days I worked in a factory. I'll never work in one again, but it had it's fun times working on such impressive machinery for my line of work. Sure wish I worked in one as clean as this facility!
That was awesome I'm 80 yrs old way back in in the 60 starting a trucking company my tire salesman introduced me to Brigestone . They were an awesome tire them before computers built them only gotten better, and I still run them . Awesome video thanks .
Hey old man, what's the secret to a long life?

@@mikeklein318 Thank you for your response. The first one, I'm trying to figure it out. The second one, not always successful... but I try and the third one, I got that covered with the Army retirement. Salute!
Many thanks for bringing us @AaronWitt and Bridgestone from Aiken, for sharing this spectacular process of building the giant tires. Greetings from a stonecutter, from Barcelona.
Wow, this is very interesting. Not how I expected them to be made
me neither
First take your rubber. Now draw the rest of the tire. @AaronWitt
just excellent exactly what your channel needs to do in depth b ehind the scenes just riverting viewing
thank you very much
Great video, Aaron. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend.
It's incredible to see the amount of engineering that goes into making these giant tires! I never realized how complex the process is, especially when it comes to blending steel wire with rubber to build the tire's structure. Amazing work, Bridgestone! 💪
I knew the Bridgestone plant was in Aiken but I had no idea they made these mine truck tires there. I always thought this plant produced automotive tires. This explains why I keep seeing loads of these things being towed behind semi trucks. They take them to the Port of Charleston to export them.
Have really enjoyed your videos of late so I subscribed and I will look forward to seeing more of your work well done 👍🏽
You should see if you can get involved in the installation of these tires, that would be awesome!!
that would be very awesome it's a big operation as well
Excellent video !
Back in the 70s I worked for Firestone here in QUEENSLAND retreading truck and grader tyres, one of the guys came from England and had worked for them there and he said it took 8 hours to build a dump truck tyre that doesn’t include the time to cook it thats just the time to build from scratch to ready to cook.
that's about right -- the difference between car tires and these tires is huge
'Kin Hell............
I knew how car tyres were made, the scale and size of this is epic.
Thank you for this amazing content!
3:46 aaron definitely unimpressed by a guy who shared quite a remarkable fun fact. the dude was absolutely expecting some sort of "aggh impressive" and aaron gave him nothing lol
Super cool!
Looks like a very big TYRE.
Good morning from Little Rock Arkansas
whenever I watch industrial engineering videos I imagine what it would be like if an ancient roman architect was the one receiving the tour. mind completely blown lol
This one dead pixel in the middle left of the video is all i can focus on haha, cool video
great videos very well made !
that was an awesome video, thank you and where I live, the word is spelt tyre
Nice video Witt
Hey, if you gonna play with the pig boys, you gotta have some big toys and this right here is some pretty damn big tires for those pretty huge trucks
Aaron bro, you have a bot problem in your comment section
Unfortunately, every major channel seems to
Bro how did they even find this channel? Just proves all these bots are run by dudes
can do 0 about it
@@mhxxd4 Doesn't prove anything. These bots are in any bigger channel.
Maybe report them instead of bitching about it to the dude who has no ability to fix the problem. Bots have been a problem as long as youtube has been online
That was en”tire”ly awesome. 😊😅
Does it smell like Farm and Fleet in there?
bingo
I just want to watch these pink spules spinn for hours 😅
I see them in Charleston coming down hwy 17 almost every day.
Love your videos, always great content and great production quality. Still curious about the skid steer in whistlin diesels video that was kinda painted like a cow with spots and it said buildwitt on it.
I had a skid steer dressed as a cow for a while... but never used it so I took put it to pasture
1:43 "hey should we unwrap the ingredients before sending them to the mixer?"
"nah a little bit of plastic inside the rubber wont cause any problems surely"
Greetings from central Texas. Man, what a cool video. These types of manufacturing processes are super interesting to watch. Something really fascinating about GIANT tires! I don't see these down at the local Discount Tire! Keep bring'n the dirt!
thanks for watching!!
Mining equipment manufacturers CAT Komatsu etc have the capability to build a bigger truck than what they have now but it is the tire that limits the size. At this point in time they can’t manufacture a bigger tire, give it time I’m sure they will engineer a manufacturing process to build one larger.
that and larger trucks aren't necessarily more economical
bead section felt lacing of real explanation
Well I enjoyed the video.
Mark from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
Sorry but I am not a bot! At least I don't think that I am.😮
If you don't want to appear like a Tate bot then don't put an emoji at the end
thanks mate!!
Aaron, very good Video, but the biggest ETM tyre is unfortuately not made by Bridgestone, it is the MICHELIN XDR 59/80R63, other than that a big like from Germany for this Video
Golf ball ore Gigant tire 😉
I think it’s an obvious choice
Bridgestone Corporation (Kabushiki gaisha Burijisuton) is a Japanese multinational manufacturing company founded in 1931 by Shojiro Ishibashi (1889-1976) in the city of Kurume, Fukuoka, Japan.
WOW sooo cool 🤯🤯🤯 such an interesting tour 👌🏻😍 within sounding like a eco warrior where does the base rubber come from Trees 🤔🤔 and if will they ever run out??
12:45 its kind of weird that the factory uses just flat beds to transport the tires
youd think with the volume they deal going from the factory to distributors with theyd use a tire carrier like centurion has
i honestly thought these were just generic mining tires cause i never see the branding on them; had no idea bridgestone was involved
Ah, yes, the generic tires are made by no-one and appear out of thin air, hence the no branding xd
I never get tired of these “how they do it” video’s. The machine processes are something else. Mind boggling. Thanks. 👍👍
thanks for watching!
Heroes
Awesome video I’m curious if that plant is union? Iron workers?
I’m tired just watching it.
7:58 the process is called splicing the tyre
Shoooow 🙌👏👏👏👏🙋♂️
7:13 instead of the boomer lady math meme, you should have put a picture of kamala
You mean comrade, Kamala holding the hammer and sickle flag!
Say bye-bye to mining should she walk into the White House, And prepare for a massive depression.
You, sirs, may be retarded people.
But it is funny.
Dam I hate to be the one that caused a tire to be replaced prematurely. That is a huge price tag.
keep the volume consistent - way too much variation in interstitial segments
EVERYTHING is reliant on mining?
No wonder they cost so much!!
Without the tread it looks like a big black wheel of cheese.
Whats with the footnote at 13:01? (are there larger non-radial tires?)
One tire 75 K ??
Folks, I sell a set of used tires from my 98 Astro Van:
All 4 on rims - all together just 50 K !
If you pay cash, I ll throw in 1 flat spare 👍
I bet that place smells like a tire factory.
the smell is hard to miss
I suggest you do a fact check
How many can they make in a day 👍
no care how nice place is rubber smells
75K? Unacceptable. From what it looks like, after 1 millions of tire sold, machines paid for and payroll mat, even after profits, 75K is outrageous price gouging.
I still can't really understand why they are so expansive, yes there are a lot of steps for producing and yes there is a lot of R&D but compare it to a car, its like two to three times as expansive. Where does this big of a price tag come from?
0:56 That's an overloaded truck. Driving over some of the rocks that fall out is a good way to shorten the life of the tires.
2:54 That looks like a loom for making carpets and rugs.
That facility looks like it's the size of a Boeing plant.
they had to drive us around in a golf cart it was so big
5:08, calendar
You definitely need a pop filter
Tires are getting crazy expensive.
I just paid $2,000 for five new Toyo Open Country’s.
Nothing special. Just 265/75r16 😢😢😢
I envy you the adventure, but I don’t really envy you the smell. 😅
I'm tyred
how long a tire lasts?
5:52 Is every turn of rubber separated by a sheet of plastic on the roll ?
That's a lot of single use plastic if it is.
It would appear so, probably to stop the rubber from sticking to itself. I doubt that this plastic is single use though, since it's neatly in rolls, it can easily be rolled off in the unraveling process and re-used.
I worked in a tire factory once... The smells... Oh, man... The smell
Terrible explanation throughout the video I'm afraid.
Fake news
thanks Carl
Man this video is tiring....
your camera has several dead pixels
Man that music was annoying
This is tireiffic
The music junked another video 👎👎👎👎👎💩💩🤔
This is the schizophrenic version of "How It's Made"...
