4 measly 3TB drives take 19 hours to initialze. This process really has to be done before replacing a drive?

I'm in the middle of a 50 hour certification.. my co worker said it's not necessary but haven't tried that yet.

The certification isn't a must, but is highly recommended to detect any potential errors or issues the replacement disks could have.
