Perfect instructions. I had the very same warnings with one of my drives and all I had to do is follow Emilio's instructions to get it fixed. Much more pleasant than finding and reading a manual. Thanks a lot! Very useful.

I was notified of a couple of disks in my 5 bay Synology with bad sectors. Over time, the number of bad sectors is increasing, so time to replace! Your video was very helpful for this... the last 3 minutes or so of your video walked me through exactly the steps to take. Thank you Emilio!

Fantastic Tutorial! I didnt have a failing disc or any errors on my Synology DS214, but noticed that the hours on my drives were a bit over 90k hours. I preemptively swapped out. I also did not have NAS optimized drives (not available when these were installed). Put in Seagate Ironwolf drives and it even seems to operate a little faster. Again, thanks for such a great tutorial, its always a bit like having your heart in your hand when you replace RAID drives!

Same Problem... Informative Video. Can I ask if during it's repairing and rebuilding after replacing the drive, is it ok to have a process on it? like for example, putting 10gb of data to the nas storage while it is in rebuilding mode. will it break the hdd? thanks for the answer.

When you get a disk that is FULL do you recommend taking it out and storing it somewhere? If so can I insert it back to the NAS whenever I want and am I able to see all my information stored? (Im new to NAS)

Hi Emilio, thanks, great and useful video. I have a DS918+ with 4 pieces of 6T WD RED disk, one of them has already about 160 bad sectors. But it is still shows Healthy. Do you think it is worthwile to replace it now or wait until having the warning (Synology Hybrid RAID with 1 disk tolerance)? On the other hand, I have some "Disk re-identification count" warning as well (also on other drives), should I be bothered with this (I don't even know what this means)... Tnx for your reply in advance!!!!

I'd have a drive ready to go...you never know when the drive will fail. You can always wait until the drive dies if you are confident that the other dissk in the raid are ok. Hope that helps

@@TechWithEmilio Thanks. I’ve already bought one 😀. So enough to wait until the NAS reports the failure?

You forgot to mention that you need to remove the two side security fixes before removing the defect disc, spend some time to realize that the defect drive could not simply be lifted out of the bay...
