  • In this video I have a look at what is under the bonnet on a 2018 Nissan Leaf 40kWh electric car and also lift it up and have a look underneath. So if you want to see what the electric motor and traction battery looks like, watch this.

    i am a die hard petrol head but I am not afraid of change and have been looking at EV vehicles for a while now and still considering getting 1 however they are still very expensive so all the advice and experience helps alot, keep up the good EV vids. I have been looking for a dealer willing to let me test drive for 24 hours in the UK but cannot find 1

    Thank you. I bought a 2019 SL Plus a few months ago. I have e vehicle lift in my garage but have a lot stored on it at present. You just saved me a lot of work because now I don't need to clean it off to look under my LEAF. LOL

    on my older 2012 leaf if it sits for a long time, it will charge the 12v battery by itself even if the car is locked, you will know when you see the one light flashing

    My first run LEAF 40kw Tekna DOES have electric parking brake, switch between front seats.

      Only the Tekna has the electronic handbrake. The others a manual operated by foot.

    My City-el ev does not have a 12v battery, 12v stuff runs via a dc/dc converter.

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  3 года назад +3

      I've just looked up what that is. With a 36V or 48V powertrain, I can see why they can do without the 12V battery. One the reasons why 400+V EVs still have 12V batteries is that the traction battery remains isolated until the vehicle is switch on, so the 12V powers everything until then, such as central locking, startup, lights etc.

    He said "ignition". Nothing is igniting on an EV except the battery if yout having a really bad day. 😮

    How do you clean under the bonnet of a LEAF?

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  2 года назад

      No need too. But if you did want too, don't use a pressure washer. But everything is waterproof of course, so some soap and a brush is best and a light hose sprinkling is fine.

    Is there a way of preventing the unsightly oxidisation of the aluminium motor?

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  3 года назад

      I'm sure there are products to protect aluminium. Not sure myself. Does it really matter under the bonnet?

    I have a KIA E Niro and have just been informed that it shouldn’t be jacked up in a conventional way to change the wheels. Is this true of EV’s?

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  3 года назад +5

      Yes that does get repeated a lot. But no, its not true. EVs do of course have jacking points too. There's just warnings to stop idiots jacking up on the battery pack.

    • @restfulplace3273
      @restfulplace3273 5 месяцев назад

      Some late model cars require adapter pads between the car jacking points and standard garage Jack. Just to fit better. I’ve cut adapters out of wood blocks.

    • @restfulplace3273
      @restfulplace3273 5 месяцев назад +1

      Every car has recommended jacking points. The warnings on ev’s are extra due to battery packs

    Great video
    For the life of me I can’t understand why anyone would buy a 40kw Leaf, I’d rather have virtually anything other than one of those - Nissan really dropped the ball with the cooling

    • @lanceareadbhar
      @lanceareadbhar 3 года назад +5

      It can be a great 2nd car for a two car family if you can find one at a good discount. I do agree that not having liquid cooling was a mistake, but there is a market still for people looking to save money that want an EV for their daily commutes and errands.
