I had just recently started playing Skyrim after having put tons of hours into Assassin’s Creed (Epic leaps for sure) and Borderlands 2 (No fall damage) so I didn’t even think about it when I took the plunge. Got a great reward of a free speech skill which sucked in hindsight cause my speech had been super low then and I’d rather save that free level for when I’m grinding the higher levels getting it to Legendary
I shouted Lydia off of this exact area, and she never came back.
Had a courier deliver compensation gold for her death shortly afterwards.

You can use the Become Ethereal Shout just before you hit the ground if you are worried about surviving the jump, and still get the level up.
