But you missed out the incident when the protesters broke into parliament and then snipers and police began shooting live bullets but the protesters continued to charge forward. The Kenya has more democratic space than their neighbors. It comes from a combination of factors. One is the strong opposition lead for years by incredibly brave and enigmatic leaders who were ready to die for the country . Second were incredibly consciencious teachers, lecturers, authors, professors and college students of the 60s, 80s and 90s who criticized and rioted against the dictatorships over and over again. Brave tribes willing to build militias to fight for their communities when necessary. A military that rarely interferes in civic affairs. A few brave judges willing to risk their lives to overule the government from time to time. A relatively robust media industry that does as much as they can to inform the public on government scandals. A relatively active civil and law society.
Also in 2002, after years, the country came together to boot out a 24 year dictator. The citizens finally felt like they did have power to change things.A new constitution was written that gave the citizens more democratic rights. We also have incredibly brave youth who rise up when it's really urgent to do so. We are still at risk of going back to the dark days.We're still struggling with corrupt politicians, tribalism and a difficult economy. So, it's a battle with every new regime. But that's the price to pay to have some semblance of democracy. It's still a long way to go though to build the Kenya that works for all citizens.
Now you have plenty freedom. You should one day give me a walk in your city.

The Gen-S were also giving first aid to the same police who were sent to hurt them. There is a clip on police hurriedly dropping off their truck after a tear gas exploded in the truck. The Gen Zs ran to assist a injured police officer.

The problem with Ugandas and Tanzanians is that they'd rather explain their cowardice by claiming that their security forces are more brutal and shoot to kill.
Freedoms in Kenya hasn't come because our security forces are weak or any less brutal. Kenyans have always died fighting for their FREEDOMS since the colonialist, Kenyatta, Moi, Kibaki, Uhuru and now Ruto. Our police forces have always killed but we soldier on.
As the saying goes, " The Price of Democracy (Freedom) is Eternal Vigilance", and that's what Kenyans are doing. If Ugandans are too afraid to speak then they better be prepared for Museveni family for the next 100yrs.
Oh and by the way, this is not the right time to study in Russia as a foreigner, you you could easily be conscripted into the Army and sent to the Frontlines as cannon fodder. There are so many countries out there with even better education systems. Give Russia a wide berth for now

This is not a contest between nations. Ugandans had their moment where many died when Tanzania decided to invade Uganda and the coarse that followed. Uganda went through so many years of turmol with many people who have perished. I must applaud the army of Museveni who fought so hard to make the country peaceful. Most of those who saw kenyans protest against their government on TV probably think it started just a day or a week or a month before. Kenya has a history of brutal demonstrations against the government across many presidents. This was the 1st time in our history and probably in African history the people overpowered the police and stormed parliament to stop the government (not armed group or a military coup but the people) and the 2nd in kenyan history the military has been deployed internally to support the police, the 1st being in 1982 during a coup attempt. The millennials, Gen-Z are direct children and or grandchildren of Generations X, many of whom fought Moi and many of his brutal supporters in political positions. Many of that time's head generations lost parents, brothers sisters fighting the regime, brutal than many African leaders. A president's name in bad faith would be more lethal anywhere than anything many could think of those days, still they fought even if many died... Many of Millennials and Gen-Zs grew up seeing live or accounts of their parents, grandparents or great grandparents fight for their rights, freedom, later multipartism, etc before and even after Moi. Many were killed, disappeared e.t.c. The spirit to fight and continue the good course the elders portrayed is in them since many elders have grown weak now. It burns even brighter knowing many of the fighters died and those left behind never stopped, we've learned the price of freedom is paved by the blood of the brave and that giving into fear is giving into slavery. Our forefathers fought the colonialst out and we read it in our history, freedom was never handed to them. All that many people see today and the bravery or many Kenyans comes from the many times people stood against oppression even if it costed lives. I mean oppression would have costed lives anyway, only more painful and slow so why not died in honor rather than miserable. The bravery also has been subconsciously instilled by our history, something many are well aware of as it's part of our curriculum, knowledge is power. Evey year, we celebrate Mashujaa day, Saba Saba, Madaraka day, Jamuhuri day, however you want to call them, and many key moments in kenyan history that changed Kenya for the better. They all remind us something to be proud of and worth fighting for, Kenya. That's why people value the flag even during demonstration, many also wear them on the wrists as bracelets among others, it's a symbol or love for the country, it means more than just wearing or carrying the flag. It will be nearly impossible to stop that spirit unless all kenyans are killed by it's regime. Above all Kenyans citizens have grown to be more one and tribeless than ever when it comes to the general wellbeing of the country. Generally, Kenyans don't fear meeting aggression with aggression that's why any too much force from the government towards them like during protest is most likely going to be a story of *from the frying pan into the fire* and the government's image will pay the highest price amongst its people and internationally. Kenyans love and respect their military and the respect is mutually fair as many of them are theeir parents, brothers, sisters and friends as well as children of the same freedom fighters. They also love many other government organs that respect them, many are respectful, good listeners, majority are informed well above average, love and can easily facilitate peace when listened to (in this case by the government). For anyone else, that is not the government kenyan or not and shows disrespect, we have several citizen ballations on multiple fronts, who will come together and roast you, you will regret what you started, on the ground, internet or wherever you are. This government has failed in all ways and we the people of Kenya have lost confidence and we don't have a government as we speak now representing the wishes of the people. Kenya is also Africa's hub and land of opportunities but a few handful of some political leaders through poor governance and mismanagement of the country's exchequer and the public properties and resources are eroding the blessings Kenyans have to tap into those opportunities to build, develop and grow themselves and the country at large.
The Gen Z and Millennials don't need exclusively government jobs as the huge youthful population cannot all be accommodated. The Gen Z, Millennials and future generations need a conducive environment, resources and structure where they can explore and strive their God given gifts and talents to make a difference in their lives while they change the world to be a better place to live in. Their ambitions, dreams and future are being stolen from them right in front of their eyes and the only way that is left is getting what belongs to them, their rights, fearlessly but also peacefully and for their outcry and voices to be heard. They have stood together in solidarity regardless of gender, tribe, race, denomination, religion, political affiliation and whatever background or walk of life one comes from ... We respect and salute them for their bravery among others who have fought a good fight in the struggle in the past generations to liberate our beloved country Kenya🇰🇪🙏🏼🇰🇪!
What we're seeing with the current change of events is peaceful demonstrations and protests demanding change in Kenya's political arena hijacked by goons.

I guess you haven't really fully understood the Kenyan dynamics - we value land the most and most of us have ancestral land that is passed from generation to generation. We also own homes in the Cities and upcountry- that is the land which we would have been robbed off had this bill passed. That land is on free hold and the proposed bill wanted to change ownership to lease hold, which meant that we would have been required to pay rates. If we let the rate elapse, then that property/land would be taken away. This is one of the major triggers for these protests.
Unlike you, we as Kenyans educate ourselves on matters being proposed as Bills that will affect us. We even went a step ahead to translate them into local languages.
