Many Italians, especially older, religious Italians, visit their families in the cemetery every Sunday. They keep the grave site clean, swap out the flowers, and yes, talk to their deceased love ones. My aunt, who was 15 years older than my father, died in childbirth at 21. Her child died with her. Her husband, who had literally been the boy next door, with whom she went to first grade, goes to their gravesite every Sunday, despite the fact that he eventually remarried and had another family. You never lose your family in Italy. Forty years later, her younger sister, another aunt, had a child who died of leukemia. Even thought it was here in the U.S., she kept up the tradition, and because of it, would not retire elsewhere. She said she didn't want him to feel forgotten.
This is what your friends and viewers live for. What joy and fun it is to see you live life to itsfullest. Massimo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dogs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Plants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks. And yes, the world would be a much better place. Where we are here in Sicily there’s a general feeling that we are all this together. I felt like that as a kid in NH, but the US has changed a lot. I hope that Sicily can keep it up. It’s a time warp for us.

Looking forward to exploring more of your content and being part of this wonderful community. Keep up the fantastic work! 😊👏
I want to move to Sicily after 7 trips to the island in the winter. Are you getting residency in Sicily and did it help the process to buy a property? Or did you already have EU citizenship?
It was easy with a house but a rental agreement works, too. We just got our Italy Elective Residency visas. We had long stay visas in France but that didn’t help us in Italy.
@@beeseurotravel i haven’t heard of Italy elective visa. Because I dont want to leave Sicily after 3 months so I’m researching how to stay longer. I’m from USA.

Thank you for taking a moment to respond. In a nutshell I guess I am worried we have not prepared enough for retirement. I know we have but I have my parents in my head who were born in the mid 1920s. I will be 62 next month. In great health and we live way under our means. I want to have a meaningful life. I want to drink a cup of coffee outside, overlooking something like you have. I love to fish and your fishing trip to the slippery rocks made me smile. I see the humble house you are restoring and not tearing down to build what we American's would say is a proper house. I would just be interested in learning how you did this and why you did this. I have a dream to go to where you are do what you are doing and start enjoying life. A Simple life. A life with a bit of meaning and less rushed. A life where people don't judge you for not living in a certain neighborhood or driving a certain car. Best wishes to you both. You are an inspiration.
Wow. You absolutely nailed it. That's how it is here. You're a great person for looking after your parents. I truly hope you get a chance to find this life for yourselves. We always lived way under our means, too, so when it came time to "live the dream" we were in good shape. The hardest part is pulling the trigger. After that, though it's never "honey and gelato" or rainbows and unicorns it is a damn fine way to live. I wake up every morning happy and eager to just live my best life.
Thanks for your words. Dad died at 90 7 years ago. Mom just turned 94 last week. She’s doing great and lives with my sister. You hit the nail in the head. It’s actually making the decision to retire. It’s messing with my head. I say to myself, what the hell was the last 35 years for? Thank you for your time and responding. Stay safe.

Hi. Enjoy your videos and as an Englishwoman who has lived in Como ( northern Italy...the lake!) for forty years this year it brings back memories of my enthusiasm back then. But up here we spend so much time working and really not appreciating it all. Lovely to see a couple who genuinely get along. My husbands family are from Sicily, so who knows? Maybe one day we'll visit again and perhaps meet up for an aperitivo??!

The soft way you describe this different life, so different from the frantic lifestyle we usually imagine, makes even us Italians to think a bit. Probably we do not appreciate as we should what we have. I have been to Sicily only three times (from Florence), but I was really stunned by the places, the people, the food. Try to have a look at Marettimo (not very close, actually), little island which is worth every second you spend there.
Thanks for the tip and Sicily? I think it’s really special, too. It’s hard to appreciate things sometime when we are caught up in the bustle of work and city living.
Both the Death and the Tower cards are about one thing ending and another thing opening up. Death means rebirth. The Tower is about being forced to come out of your faulty broken home. Together they look quite a LOT like two people who have just started over somewhere new.
I’ve read the comments from some of your viewers and I couldn’t help but laugh a little bit. Since I’ve been living in Sicily everything has completely changed in my life. I moved here 6 years ago at the age of 55. All of my Italian documents are from Ragusa. Noto is in Siracusa. Each place is different for the doctors and the documents. Patience is an absolute must. Nothing is as it seems. Last year I was at the beach almost every day from June to September and it never rained. 100 degrees before 10am is normal. Coming from Tennessee it took me almost a whole year before I stopped comparing Sicily to America. I absolutely love Italy and have no thoughts about moving back to America. I go back once a year for a month or two to be with family members and friends. After about 3 days I’m counting the days to return home. Sicily is beyond words but you must accept it as it is. It will never change and is absolutely nothing like America. When the police came to my house this past January to verify my residency it was a reality check again for me to realize that I now live in a socialist state. Working here and opening a bank account is , let me be nice, a trip. Black money is the norm but if you don’t have a contract for work, you must be careful. The banks, postal service and everything else that we take for granite can be a hassle. Especially living in the countryside. Understanding Catholic holy days and saint days is a must!!! My family members are buried in the cemetery in Ragusa Iblea and the video you made I’ve been many times.
Found you guys on RUclips as I myself, an American from NC, 55 and widowed, am really interested in Italy-I have been for many years! Im living thru you guys! I’m still working but barely-I just don’t have it anymore lol! Listening to your card read, maybe the foundation you are rebuilding is remodeling your cute little country home! Love the Redsox hat-I have one too!
Wellll… cards in the tarot are not to be interpreted too literally. The tower card card may mean disruptions or wake up calls but that can be a good thing. The death card does not mean anyone is dying. It signifies change. And they’re only suggestions of what energies may be at the time. So, no worries :). You just popped up on my feed, nice channel, beautiful area!
Hello from NH to my favorite RUclips Couple! What a beautiful back drop that you have! Brian - great job on the patio. Beth - limocello and orangecello looks delicious! (LMAO on Brian's remark when he tasted it for the first time!😂😂) And Beth - did a great job painting the gate. I agree, the color makes it so the fence is not there. Imagine? 10 Euros for all of those plants?!? You would have to get a 2nd mortgage on your home if you were to buy them here in New England. Another great video guys! Look forward to the future ones! Happy for you guys! Take care! John
Will be “joining “ you soon . Tired of the cold , arthritis and high prices in Canada . Retiring next year . Will be in Sicily and Calabria in January ! Congratulations to both of you !
Hello you two, I really like your videos. Ever since I spent my vacation near Noto (Spiaggia di Eloro) a few years ago, I've dreamed of doing what you do. Live in Sicily, where my family comes from. Unfortunately, my wife does not share this view. Anyway, if you don’t know or haven’t heard of it, be sure to visit “L’Infiorata di Noto” next May. A very nice event…

Hello👋 I’m new here. I’ve binged the move to Sicily series and I have to say I am smitten! Ha! I find so much of my inspiration in life from people on RUclips who are following their dreams. I think the #1 quality I enjoy is creators who are lovable. I think you know what I mean….personality is everything! And you guys HAVE IT! I can’t forget editing skills and of course content Check!check!check! The chit chat/qNa vids are good…but my favorites are always task/work related where impressive accomplishments are made. It’s thrilling. Keep up the great example of quality of life. It inspires so many of us 😘🤗

I recently found your channel and subscribed after enjoying your stories. Looking forward to hearing and seeing what life holds for you both in Italy. Incidentally, I’m on a similar path but in the Puglia region where my family is originally from :)
Hi guys ! Just to put your minds at ease... Although both the Tower and the Death cards are often dreaded, they truly are not bad !! Sure the Tower is very much an upheaval, uprooting card. It often means you need to find a better fit, in some area of your life. This is beautifully illustrated by the round crown falling of the square tower. Just wont fit anymore ! And yes, it involves big changes in the foundation of your life. Quite fitting isn't it ?! As for the Death card, I'm always happy to get it because it talks about REBIRTH ! A new lease on life. A transformation. So as you can see the cards DO TALK. As an inconditional fan of anything and everything italian, I absolutely love Tarot cards for the incredibly useful tool of introspection that they are. 😊 I just found your channel this morning and I have been binge watching all day !! I have of course subscribed and liked and will definitely be following closely. Just know that you guys have my utmost admiration for daring to go for your dreams. And not shying away from the challenges. I for one already see hapiness in your future ! 😉 I share that dream with you guys. I would move there in a minute. Unfortunately, my partner doesnt feel exactly the same way and family ties are pulling strongly. So I will be watching and rooting for you two. Retirement is fast approaching (next xmas) and we will undoubtedly, eventually, go to Sicily... some day. If only for an extended trip. Who knows. Maybe we'll meet someday ! Maybe I can bring a couple of tarot decks and we can do very informal and convivial readings with wine and dinner ! 😊 Oh ! By the way. We are french speaking folks who live in the province of Quebec, just north of the Vermont borders... almost neighbours at one point. Keep up the amazing work and videos ! 💛🙏
Awww. Thanks for such kind words. Both sides of my family are from Quebec and came to the US in the 1920’s so I definitely know how to “throw the cow over the fence to feed the hay, me.” When I was young, at family gatherings, everybody spoke French and Sunday at Memere’s house was obligatoire 😝 If you ever make it out this way look us up 😊
I found your channel and I love it. You are doing what I want to do but I’m to scared, Please keep posting. Love to hear how you finally made the move. Randy
What a wonderful week you've both had. Such a good life with the rewards of hard work. I loved the transformed gates. Good job. I'm curious to see what you're doing inside the house too! So glad I came across your channel.
Love it. Just love hearing about your experiences and the things you all are doing. It's all amazing and I always look forward to your next video. Ciao from North Carolina.
It's my dream to come to Italy area. Thank you for sharing how life is there. I'm from Midwest where there is the rolling hills kind of like where you guys live at. Enjoy your new way of life.
Thanks 😊 And thanks for watching. Start planning a trip! Come off-season when everything is cheaper (airfare, AirBnb, car) and you’ll find that it is way more affordable than you think. Way cheaper than a week at Disney!
I was interested to hear that Italians make their limoncello with 100-proof (50%) ethanol. My local tradition, in western PA., calls for 190-proof (95%, essentially moonshine), which supposedly makes for a richer extraction. A few years ago the state outlawed the good stuff, so now I use 100-proof vodka, and I honestly can't tell the difference.
I'm an Italian American. I love you guys to show to Italian if you are working like American can beautified any things. Thanks, you guys, to make italy more beautiful 😍
Hi guys. My wife and I are serious about travelling to Italy next winter to see if we get the same vibe in person we get when we watch all these videos (yours and others’). Looking for your advice on renting something near where you two settled so we have a base for exploring. Any ideas for websites you trust or contacts you have who we could get in touch with? Thanks.
We think the world of Palazzolo Acreide, but we don’t know anybody with a place to rent yet. We have always just used Airbnb and never have had a problem. Noto is a little touristic but very beautiful, closer to the beach and more convenient to major roads if you’re looking to do day trips around the area. Siracusa is bigger and lots more to do if that’s more your style. Hope that helps 😊
Thanks for the reply guys, we will probably do the Airbnb and likely in Siracusa or maybe Catania. We also plan to do some travel in Calabria and Puglia to see more of southern Italy. But your videos paint such a beautiful picture of everything we’ve come to admire about Italy and the Italian way of life! Great videos with a wonderful vibe! Keep them coming!😊
Definitely one of the negative things about living here. We have city water but with the drought we have going on at the moment? We could run out. So for backup, underneath our shed, we have a 20,000 liter storage tank. As long as there is city water, it comes from the street and we pump it up into a tank on the roof. Water then feeds into the house from there. If the city water goes dry we will pump it from the tank. It is definitely not a dream system. But? We’ll be ok. Hopefully we get some rain soon so we don’t have to think about it.
I’m curious about the ability to get an Italian driver’s license. When we retire, in 7 years, I’d like to be able to have our own transportation when we need it. How did you go about getting a license there?
We have a year to get our Italian license and it isn’t easy. After Brexit the test is no longer offered in English. I’m lucky to speak a lot of French, but will probably try to take it in Italian. It will just be a lot of studying. We can do it 😉
@@beeseurotravel Interesting, we live in Florida and did a road trip through Oregon last summer. Our thoughts were that Florida is so dam hot from May to December, we would love to spend that time of year in a place like Oregon. Of course visiting and living somewhere is different but we liked Oregon a lot. Thanks for your response, my wife and I love your videos, thank you.
Trying to. We’ve applied for elective residency and still in process. I think Sicily must have had a bad reputation for healthcare in the past. Somebody who watched one of our videos said he had a terrible experience in Palermo and wrote off the entire system for it. I had a bad experience in France once, too, but that certainly didn’t represent the overall quality I experienced over five years. We have met many people here so far and zero complaints about the quality of care. We met a dentist who complained about being underpaid 😆 but that’s it. In fact we know three people from the US who were highly complimentary. So bottom line? Not really sure, but I think it’s probably just fine.
Like anything else it does take time to build up a “network.” We have done pretty much everything ourselves, but things do flow at a different pace here. If you can be patient I don’t think you’ll have a hard time getting things done
6:15- *something* in your life is on a faulty foundation. Not your whole life. I love the tower. But you guys did get some pretty dramatic cards. Has anything big happened recently?
Well… we’re in the process of moving to Sicily! 🤣 If I were to think about it I could say that I had to leave the “France” dream behind and fully embrace being here in Sicily. Maybe? I dunno

The Red Sox hat… 😍🤣 Thanks for the kind words. Good luck with everything and thanks for watching.
Thanks 😊
Take care!
John
Thanks, but what do you want? 😂😂 Thanks so much for those kind words - they mean more than you might know 😊
So so glad I found your channel!
Me too!! 😂 Thanks for following along. We’re just trying to have fun and hopefully inspire some people to do the same 😊 It’s a nice life
Will be “joining “ you soon . Tired of the cold , arthritis and high prices in Canada . Retiring next year . Will be in Sicily and Calabria in January !
Congratulations to both of you !
I totally get it. Good luck with your search 😊
Ugh. We can’t go this year but next year for sure. I’ve seen lots of videos and it looks amazing!
Hi guys just discovered your channel, we are actually "neighbours" we live outside Siracusa in the countryside and have been here for nearly 5 yrs and also have a newish Yt channel , Really enjoy watching your video's the limoncello looks good and your land looks fabulous.👍👍👍
Thanks. We should meet up for a drink. What’s your channel? If you want, send us a msg on Instagram. Same name 😊
I can’t forget editing skills and of course content
Check!check!check! The chit chat/qNa vids are good…but my favorites are always task/work related where impressive accomplishments are made. It’s thrilling. Keep up the great example of quality of life. It inspires so many of us 😘🤗
Wow. Thanks. I’m glad you like them. It makes us feel good to add a dash of positivity into a crazy world!
I stumbled across your video and got hooked. I've now watched, I think most of them. Everything about your existence there looks amazing. Love the progress you are making on the farm. Please keep the videos coming and greet Massimo and he's hounds. Ciao to all of you from Southern Africa.
Thanks for watching ! So far so good 😊
I recently found your channel and subscribed after enjoying your stories. Looking forward to hearing and seeing what life holds for you both in Italy. Incidentally, I’m on a similar path but in the Puglia region where my family is originally from :)
Thanks and that’s great. Puglia is great. Best of luck 👍
Death and tower cards both mean transformation and change. Maybe referring to your remodel.
Yes 😊
We're loving it !! Keep it coming!!
Thanks.
Happy Tuesday….or Wednesday to you, yours and Massimo!
Glad to see you sporting the Sox hat as a NH transplant in Sicily(we're in eastern Connecticut, Sox, B's and Pats fans)
Our videos needed a touch of class 😉 Me, too.
@@beeseurotravel perfect as is. I was serious when I said I was happy to see the hat
@@craftbrewer4032 Thanks. I'm just joking around with you. Love the Sox.
I just found your channel this morning and I have been binge watching all day !! I have of course subscribed and liked and will definitely be following closely.
Just know that you guys have my utmost admiration for daring to go for your dreams. And not shying away from the challenges. I for one already see hapiness in your future ! 😉
I share that dream with you guys.
Oh ! By the way. We are french speaking folks who live in the province of Quebec, just north of the Vermont borders... almost neighbours at one point. Keep up the amazing work and videos ! 💛🙏
Awww. Thanks for such kind words. Both sides of my family are from Quebec and came to the US in the 1920’s so I definitely know how to “throw the cow over the fence to feed the hay, me.” When I was young, at family gatherings, everybody spoke French and Sunday at Memere’s house was obligatoire 😝 If you ever make it out this way look us up 😊
10 Euros. !!? For all those lovely vegetable starts.. wow, amazing.
Right?! And they are all doing well in the garden 😍
Enjoy 😊
Thank you😊
Really nice. I am not far behind you and cannot wait to get to Italia. Keep the videos coming!
Thanks 😊
Great videos
Glad you like them! Thanks 😊
It's beautiful following your story in Sicily; bravi, complimenti!
Thanks. So far so good 😊

Randy
Thanks 😊 We were a little nervous, too, before we took the plunge but it was a great move for us. What are you afraid of?
U guys are AWESOME! Luv you clips.
Thanks so much!! 😊
Chicago girl here. Love your videos!❤
Thanks 😊
What a wonderful week you've both had. Such a good life with the rewards of hard work. I loved the transformed gates. Good job. I'm curious to see what you're doing inside the house too! So glad I came across your channel.
Thanks 😊 We’ll take a quick spin thru next week.
Unbelievable experience and great life you have in Sicily
Right? Stupid fortunate to have stumbled into this. Still some hurtles to overcome but we’re getting there.
Love it. Just love hearing about your experiences and the things you all are doing. It's all amazing and I always look forward to your next video. Ciao from North Carolina.
Thank you 😊 Glad our videos make you happy. That makes us happy

You guys are living the dream 😍.
We try to focus on the positive 😊 At some point we will do a video on the more challenging things being here, but it really is a beautiful life.
I really like your take on your Sicilian experiences
Thanks 😊 Us, too 😉
Hello from Alberta , I just found you guys , enjoyed your program ,new sub ,cheers
Thanks for watching 😊
Another great video thanks! Hello from Phoenix
Hello, Phoenix 😎
Living the green dream 💚💚💚
They gave you the plants for Free!
Flanders poppies.
Yes! If you’re a good person here? Nobody cares where you’re from and people will step up to help you. We do appreciate and respect that.
I'll be in Noto in 3 weeks !
Nice! Have fun, it’s a beautiful city 😎
Wine and tarot. WOW…j’aime…je dois déménager en Italie et ça presse….
J’adore la France mais les Italians et la belle vie ici? 😍😍
Wonderful, thanks for sharing....greetings from the Queen City 👑 :-)
Thanks for watching!
Make lemon cello with vodka instead of the alcohol. Same process, but just use vodka..👍
We are sitting here in Canada ,with a blanket , wondering how old you were when you set up house in Sicily ?
57/56
Please don’t change a thing with your channel!!
LOL. Ok 😉
Where does the water come from?
We can do it 😉
Where in Oregon are you from? Love the videos!
Thanks! 😊 Grew up in NH and lived in Beaverton/Forest Grove for 33 years.
Thanks 😂
How are the medical facility’s, doctors etc.? Do you stay there all year?
How hard is it to find someone to work on your house for you? I am thinking of buying there but heard its hard to get help.
Like anything else it does take time to build up a “network.” We have done pretty much everything ourselves, but things do flow at a different pace here. If you can be patient I don’t think you’ll have a hard time getting things done
The prices over there are unbelievable.
I just paid $5.98 for 1 parsley plant.
😂 I know… it’s gross
Are you guys studying Italian??
Yes. Everyday. And we spend most of our time with Sicilians. Most people around us speak Sicilian first - but we will have to settle for Italian 😂
Love the limoncello
Thanks. So do we 😂
Oh, I pray that a boar does not find your fence-less garden… 😇
Yeah. It’s possible, but once Massimo harvests the wheat we will put up an electric boar fence. NP. Nothing good to eat yet 😉
Thanks for the idea of including photos with graves. I'm going to ask my parents' New Jersey cemetery if I can add some pictures of them.
How often do you get back to the states to visit?
A lot
6:15- *something* in your life is on a faulty foundation. Not your whole life. I love the tower.
But you guys did get some pretty dramatic cards. Has anything big happened recently?
Well… we’re in the process of moving to Sicily! 🤣 If I were to think about it I could say that I had to leave the “France” dream behind and fully embrace being here in Sicily. Maybe? I dunno
@@beeseurotravel That DOES make sense. :)
So don't believe in Tarot cards, if God brought you there you will be living your best life! ❤️
Do you own firearms?
No. I did in Oregon and NH. Just bird hunting. Here it’s a whole new process. Not opposed, but…
