I enjoyed your reaction to this beautiful Pentatonix video. Thank you. I love the arrangement and vocals for the song and the video was very cleverly shot. I love that the figures walking behind each of them start walking backwards at times. So cool.

One of my top favourites, it has real impact especially when Matt and Mitch are in harmony. Always enjoy your reactions.

I think that may have been the 1st time that we'd heard Mitch & Matt (MitchMattch? 🤔) singing a duet. We really need more of that!!

Yes, yes! The Mitch & Matt harmonizing is perfection. ❤

I really liked your take on this and it made me think a little deeper. I loved the last part of Kirstin’s solo. Her stare and low notes penetrated the soul. Recommend their 90s Dance Medley.

Yeah, it’s that “look right through me” that gets me every time. Loved your whole analysis, but especially the haunted sonar ping that finds others seeing the madness right along with you! Well done, my friend. Loved it. Peace …

One of the rare ones where they have all 5 voices throughout and do they ever sound good. Great reaction, too.

Last year they performed "Kiss from a Rose" live on Vevo & if this blows your mind you will like that too! No, you will LOVE it!
I just now found your channel. Since you appear to be a Pentaholic like me, I'm subbing to see more! I also love Voiceplay & Home Free. Great reaction - I love your analagy! Brilliant!!

Thank you! Loved your commentary on this. Most people pick up on the ghosting of the singers in the background, but few try to delve into the way PTX and Ben Bram, their arranger, put this together. The original I found confusing because the music seemed to be happy, but the lyrics were anything but. PTX portrayed it in such a chilling, disturbing way that the impact is phenomenal and gets the point of the lyrics across perfectly.
Just so you know....PTX has dropped new versions of both Hallelujah and Bohemian Rhapsody a week or two ago and will be releasing Sound of Silence, Daft Punk medley and their new Taylor Swift medley in the next few weeks. All are live recordings done in simple format, not studio produced. They will also be featured in a Christmas movie coming to Netflix on Nov 1st, Meet Me Next Christmas.

Other than Adam Lambert's version of this performed in Season 9 of American Idol (and in many of his concerts since then), this amazing PTX performance is the best of all.

I believe it was Gary Juhl who sang this to a black and white video looking down on the children in the street making patterns below... circling and circling.....that one moved me intensely...but this version is absolutely perfect ❤

Loved your assessment - very interesting with the “haunted sonar ping” idea. An astute take that I enjoyed - you put the feeling it gives me into words ❤ thank you!

Subbed for more PTX. You need to watch The Making of Evergreen...two Christmases ago, (I think) You will be blown away at how they work their songs. The arrangments are phenomenal and on the spot. Their pitch perfect and timing for harmony is EPIC!

Your reactions are so insightful! I have to believe many of us hear them and can’t articulate exactly how they make us feel the way we feel, especially not on first hearing of an arrangement, but you really hone in on the choices they make artistically that engender those feelings. Noteworthy reacting! That “Look right through me” hits me right in the gut. They’ve used that technique of falling off and letting Mitch deliver an impactful moment in a few arrangements, like Hallelujah and even as early as Dog Days Are Over back when they had just begun on The Sing Off. I’m sure they’ve done that with all their vocals at one time or another, but I guess I’ve noticed it more with Mitch. They have some go-to Pentatonix-isms, I guess, like a language of their own. Another thing they have done quite a few times is use Scott at the beginning and/or end of an arrangement in solo voice to lead us in and out of our experience. Often at the end he’ll be the one to tag the arrangement with a hanging note after everyone else has stopped singing, like auditory punctuation to live in the air a moment longer. Loved your reaction!

This is a very different version from the original Tears for Fears version. That original had a tempo that was much quicker, the whole musical attitude of the song was almost upbeat - which made people who actually listened to the lyrics wondering what was going on, since the lyrics are so desperate and down. I think the PTX version and video does a much better job of catching the spirit of the lyrics than the original video did.

Their version is a cover of GARY JULES’ cover of “Mad World”. Much slower and sadder.

All 5 singing with no beatboxing makes for an interesting top tier song. This is one of my favorite PTX songs and yes, I like their version more than the original.
You would like Sound of Silence, New Rules x Are You That Somebody, Can’t Hold Us, Amazing Grace, The Prayer, Papaoutai, Radioactive, Perfect, Daft Punk. They also have tons of Holiday songs and excellent originals Their original Run To You the harmonies are top and I really like Love Again, Happy Now and Sing.
They also have a 15 minute video called The Recording of Evergreen. PTX fans love watching it to see reactors reactions.
