    Great video Cody. Now that Sugano is off the market, Roki will be the hot ticket international player. Hopefully SF can pull it off! They do have some things going for them like their success with pitchers and the fact that they would be one of the teams to face the Dodgers the most often, seeing Roki face Ohtani & Yamamoto, Japan would go nuts! We'll see though, hopefully he signs soon!

    Great content. Thanks for stating facts and not teasing out speculation.
    Spaking of Facing the toughest competition. Webb vs LA is 4-6 with 4.11 ERA in games he has a decision. In the 6 games with no decision ERA is 3.10. His losses are ugly. His wins are great.

      Yeah I don’t have any inside sources to speculate that’s for sure. I just see a few things that could draw him here and a few things to draw him elsewhere. No clue what Roki wants and anybody claiming they do know is full of it IMO. Pretty sure only he and his agent know.

    Good one Cody, interesting and informative as usual. Over the last 5-6 years I've grown to the thought that the Giants just can't sign any quality players but Buster has me thinking so much different these days. Being a catcher he knows what he's looking for. Maybe Burnes and Sasaki if he's up for it and hopefully someone to hold down 1st for a time, DH later.

    • @EYDShow
      @EYDShow  9 дней назад +1

      I definitely see Buster trying to build quickly around pitching and defense. He understands the need to score but also recognizes that is going to take longer to fix. I could see them snagging a 1B with some pop as I mentioned on the last video, and for the DH spot I see it as likely to go based off matchups and also giving guys days off in the field. I personally prefer this to keeping a full time DH since it generally keeps guys fresher and gives added roster flexibility.

    Ramos was considered a 5 tool when he was drafted

    • @EYDShow
      @EYDShow  8 дней назад +1

      I guess the main differentiator is while Ramos had 5 plus tools, a few of them were viewed just a bit better than average, mainly his bat to ball skills and speed. Gonzales has the potential to have 5 elite or at least well above skills. It would be a power/speed combo they haven’t had in a long time with the potential to be a plus defender at SS.

    Hey Cody, the Padres signed De Vries last year for 4.2 Million. Say the Giants can get Josuar, for around 4 million as well, that leaves 1.1 million for the Roki bonus. Ohtani got a 2mil bonus from the Angels, Roki doesn’t hit too I predict his bonus will be lower, could be wrong but I do see Buster having a possibility to thread the needle and get both. As for selling the Giants to Roki, I’d start with the great split, Change, Sink culture already established here, the JP Martinez pitching lab that’s proven to fix guys like Smyly, Gausman, Cobb, Quintana, Tyler Anderson, Sean Manea, the rehab and development of the split or 2 seam run with Black and Winn and Webb, all have been hurt and all have bounced back under JP Martinez and the Giants, being able to grow and pitch with for years to comes Harrison, Birdsong and Whisenhunt because they are all the same age, having great defense behind you, and a young gold glover receiving you, it’s a pitchers paradise for many reasons on and off the mound. Yes hammer in on being the guy to strike out Ohtani while all of Japan watches instead of chilling in his dugout. As for my silly Hail Mary reach for part of the pitch, reach out to Steph and see if you can get Roki to be an Under Armour athlete. I know they have Harper already but he’s older and Roki would’ve soon become the primer Under Armour baseball athlete. No more cringe Ohtani New Balance ads lol. But yes it’s most likely idealistic but to imagine the 6 day pitching overlay of a Burnes cutter, Webb Sinker, Harrison Fastball, Roki Splitter,Whisenhunt Change, and Bidrsong fastball is just filthy.

    • @EYDShow
      @EYDShow  8 дней назад +2

      Haha love it. I’m basing this off the fact that reports are out there already saying Roki is likely to see a teams entire bonus pool. I just don’t think both are in play unless one goes rogue and says they’ll take waaaaay less than they can get elsewhere, which typically isn’t the case.

    If Roki Sasaki ends up with the Dodgers I think it would be incredibly advantageous to them to use him in the bullpen to start. To me is seems like he's going to the Padres though. I think if the Giants want to have a chance at him they need to use trades to go after some bonus pool money.

    • @EYDShow
      @EYDShow  8 дней назад

      I really don’t see the bonus pool money being that big of a deal. He’s it’s going to be maybe a $1-2M total difference depending on the club and 90%+ of his money is going to come from endorsements. So playing somewhere where he’ll be more marketable would be more beneficial than getting an extra mil on a signing bonus. Another thing LA could do and has mentioned is a 6 man rotation. That would keep his innings down a little bit and give him more rest between starts.

    • @EYDShow
      @EYDShow  9 дней назад +1

      I think that while they can realistically afford him, if they’re going to sign another QO player it’s going to be Burnes. Santander doesn’t seem to fit Posey’s vision for the club, though I’d love to see it.

    The real question Giants Nation is asking is "will the Dodgers sign Sasaki?"

  • @autumnstoyz7191
    @autumnstoyz7191 8 дней назад +1

    Or, the Giants can blow past their international bonus pools and sign both. If I am reading it correctly, the penalty would only be only signing a player for $300k or under the next two international pool seasons. The penalty is steep, but this could be two generational talents and it keeps them from the Dodgers and Padres.

    • @EYDShow
      @EYDShow  8 дней назад

      MLB won’t allow teams to go over the allotted amount. The only workaround is them trading for more bonus money from other teams, but they can only go 50% beyond their current limit, which would be ~$2.55M. Not sure if that would make a difference or not.

    Biggest piece that everyone keeps forgetting about saski is that he is used to a 6 man rotation. And for a guy that doesn’t pitch more than 130 innings, why would he go to a team that wants him to pitch 150+ like the giant or SD would do. Dodgers are the only team in the league that can actually offer him a 6 man rotation that will actually do something

    • @EYDShow
      @EYDShow  7 дней назад

      Who knows how much of a factor that actually is. My concern about the innings is just that you can’t jump him up immediately to 160+, not that he can’t build up to it. It’s hard because he only has a 3 year track record in the NPB and hasn’t done it yet, but he is only 23 years old. Lots of reasons to believe he can build up to it. I just don’t have any clue the level of importance a 6 man rotation is to him. Not sure anyone but him and his agent know that.

      I wouldn’t say we *know* anything truly. There is a lot of speculation out there about what he truly wants but the only people that really know that are probably Roki himself and his agent.

  • @heofonfyr5089
    @heofonfyr5089 9 дней назад +1

    Rather get Burns. He's been a durable workhorse ace. What more could you want? Roki however runs the risk of arm fatigue or injury. Throws way too hard every pitch. It would be risky to sign him to a long term deal i think.

    • @EYDShow
      @EYDShow  9 дней назад +1

      The deal Roki gets wouldn’t be risky though because it’s a rookie deal. They can’t sign him to a deal like Yamamoto got. This would be like the deal Ohtani got. First 3 years are pre arbitration making ~$800-900k/year, years 4-6 are arbitration eligible, so he’ll make gradually more, but they can non tender at any time. I agree I view Burnes as the safer workhorse, but the cost of Sasaki is extremely attractive. Luckily with how inexpensive Sasaki would be this isn’t a one or the other situation, they could afford both if both agreed to come.

    The JPL plays 144 games with man rotation I guess, even with that his starts and innings counts is really low. I wonder if that is sign of anything. Also with Burnes there was that story today that the Giants were going to sign him for 8 years for 230 Million, I wonder if there is anything actually too that. This waiting around nonsense is getting old, I hope this doesn't drag like last year.

      But early to say they’re done making moves. I don’t know if they’ll get Sasaki or not, definitely not predicting anything here, but if they don’t get him it won’t have anything to do with Posey being content with what they already signed.
