The Virtua series from Sega has so many great games; Virtua Fighter, Virtua Tennis, Virtua Cop...and Virtua Striker! Except Virtua Striker never got a home port...even though it was on the release schedule from Sega as far as coming soon Dreamcast games were concerned...another retro gaming loss for Dreamcast fans! But Virtua Striker 2 Version 98 on the Sega Model 3 arcade board is legit retrogaming gold!

So we decided to extend this playlist from 10 games to does it even matter what the count is anymore? lol it's a lot!
If there are two things I love it's retrogaming and Sega arcade games...so even if I am not a huge fan of soccer video games (or football video games for the European viewers) I do love a good Sega Model 3 arcade game! Now I know what you are thinking...but VGE Virtua Striker 2 came home to Dreamcast as a home console port...and that is technically correct. But Version 98 never did!
So fun that this board hosted Daytona USA and Scud Race as well!

I must have spent a ton of money on this version. 99 edition was also good. The series was way ahead of it's time technicaly and the games were really popular here in Algeria.

Arcade sports games are pretty much the only kind of sports games that I used to play. Stuff like Virtua Striker, NBA Jam, and NFL Blitz. All great fun with friends!
NFL Blitz was a fun time too. I miss the genre of over the top sports games
Spent all my money on this as a kid in Cairo malls. Although the one at my local arcade was ver 99.
We had fierce arcade battles there! It was rare for someone to complete a playthrough without a challenger showing up.
The arcade in our neighboring town had ver 98 and I got my a$$ handed back to me when I tried my luck there 😆
It has its quirks, but for some reason it keeps you hooked 😅

I remember playing this game at the Playdium back in the day. Good times. I would love to see this core on the MiSTer.
Sadly Model 3 will never hit MiSTer. Way too complex to fit in the FPGA
Damn man, as a kid these graphics were astounding, this and Virtua Tennis looked real to me

Don't remember which one it was but I remember spending some time playing a Virtua Striker game in the arcade in the late 90s-early 00s and loving it.
I do love football (Soccer) games particularly those made before FIFA Ultimate team became a thing so I'm used to many 3D games from the 90s/00s, and not to compare it to FIFA as it's an arcade game but I Loved the version of Virtua Striker I played just as much as FIFA.
I did have a newer version on GameCube which was just as fun as the arcade, 2002 I think I was and maybe the last version I ever played though would love to try newer versions.
Seems like people either really love this game or didn’t enjoy it at all. No middle ground
@@VideoGameEsoterica I grew up with 90s 3D football games so maybe that's why I like it. It's definitely not the best in it's genre but graphically this holds up well and when taken as the arcade game it is I can say it's so much fun.
Love this series. Pure fun. I play the GameCube version on Dolphin every now and then because that's the latest installment ported to a console. Never played the arcade Virtua Striker 4, suppose that's an upgraded GameCube version...?

Let me get this straight there are TEN versions of - Virtua Striker 2 - over various Model 3 step X.X iterations - Naomi - Dreamcast. That`s real #football crazy, football mad.

I remember playing this in the arcades and there was a line to play it VGE. Amazingly, this game still looks fantastic after all these years bro. 8^)

Of course it was a massive hit here in Italy, one of the games I remember seeing the most in the late 90s. Also this specific version was tied (although not officialy) to the France '98 World Cup so understandibly everyone wanted to play it. Compared to other 3D soccer games either on Saturn or PS1, It had the speed and fluidity you couldn't see at home. I liked it a lot eventhough I never cared for Soccer and completely ignored Soccer games during the 16-bit days.

Played the arcade version here in the UK also owned it on Dreamcast. As a football game its OK but the camera is not great. Would have been great to have a more zoomed out and higher angled view option. Preferred Football Champ as an arcade football experience.
So what ARE the good football game? Because so far every commenter is European…which is not a surprise haha
@VideoGameEsoterica in my opinion arcade versions of football or soccer are not that great because home console versions have been superior for many years. However, my favourite arcade football games would be: Kick n Run and Football Champ because they offer a humorous side to the game and are fun to play in short bursts. The NeoGeo had a lot of football titles, but they are all essentially the same game, a side on affair like the original Football Champ. You could argue that soccer doesn't make a great arcade game. To support this I would say that the best soccer arcade experience has been the table football cabinet (players on rails/bars twisted by the users). Nothing can compare to the noise and rivalry of a 2 vs 2 (or even 3 vs 3) table soccer match.

@VideoGameEsoterica not that I know of. Closest is probably the Mario soccer games and PS1 games Adidas Power Soccer and on PS2, Red Card.

@@VideoGameEsoterica Im using Supermodel 0.2a win 32.Should i try a 64 version maybe on a differnt pc.The graphics are good on the game even thou its at crawling speed.Other games like Daytona usa and star wars trilogy and lost world all work fine.Its so frustrating i just want to play this game properly.

Games like this makes me so angry that SEGA is no longer in the home console market. Really, funny music, fun gameplay, bright colorful graphics.... I mean in my country Sony threatened stores that if they stocked Dreamcast, they wouldn't get as many PS2s. And they got away with it, there never was a anti monopoly case against them... it just worked. I mean... I simply can't stand Fifa, but this game is so fun to play....

Football games have always been of a generally higher quality, with decent gameplay, right from the early 1990's.
My knowledge of the genre is limited since it was never huge in the US
Dont mind course for pitch, but point?! Gotta say goal mate :D oh and as i am reversed and came from europe i never played nfl blitz but assuming it to be nba jam-ish version of american football? If so sega DID create an version like that. That would be sega soccer slam.

If you whip your head around really quickly, you'll find the actual sky does something similar. This Model 3 hack is actually scientifically accurate.

I must admit I don't find this a good playing game but it's a very impressive game engine and worth switching on just to watch.
Its a fun time IMO but I also dont play many soccer games so I leave it to everyone to decide if they like it or not :)

Football/Soccer was practically a religion in the city I grew up in. I think it's too easy to lose the ball in Virtua Striker 2. I like Perfect Eleven on Super Famicom. That's the best Soccer game I've played.
Funny enough I sucked at soccer growing up…much to the annoyance of my father who played professionally in Europe back in the day after high school. I did NOT inherit the soccer talent 😂

He just had this wild natural ability. As a kid I watched him pick up a soccer ball and kick it through a basketball hoop from half court like he had done it 100 times

@@VideoGameEsoterica to be fair I can only critique the Dreamcast version but from what I see here, it suffers all the same problems. Clunky, no ability to dribble or pass efficiently, a lack of time to get shots away before being tackled without consequence. The game (for me) aside from the graphics was as uninteresting as it gets. If you enjoyed it then that's all that matters 👍

to answer naoni 1 was the saturn equivalent naoni 1 hardware the dream csst was based from the naoni 2 arcade hardware

@@VideoGameEsoterica the reason why you can't play naomi on and naomi 2 on either saturn or dream cast because both naoml and naomi 2 hardware have lockout chips to be able to plat the games in up to 8 player mode this is why you can't run naomi and naomi 2 games on their respective console hardware.. because of the lockout chip
the basic hardware was the same all be it the slight difference of the hardware lock out oon the arcade hardware
@@VideoGameEsoterica if they weren't based on the same hardware how do you expect to use you memory cards/carts on the arcade hardware, notng not widely known sega has had perchance of supporting home and arcade play though mem card/cart since the sega master system, can't remember if it was supported on the mega drive though i do know they reinstated it on both the saturn and dream cast
i suspect neogeo and snk likely licensed the tech to their system from sega i have known about this for over 30 years
Problem with people getting into retro these days they don't realize that sega was a proponent of game saves on select titles when you had had access to a console at home and the games if fitted with the memory card/cart slots to play in the arcades...
I just can't enjoy sports games. Its literally the last thing I would rather do in gaming.
