John DiMaggio's only played the Joker once, but he had an excellent take on the character. Mark Hamill can do a menacing Joker - Mad Love, Return of the Joker and of course, The Killing Joke (regardless of that movie's overall quality) are proof of that - but there are times, like when he's screaming for Batman's help whilst being threatened by Charlie Collins, where you can forget how dangerous the Joker really is. DiMaggio's Joker never lets you forget how much of a menace he is. His very first scene in the film is him beating Jason Todd to near death, before finishing him with a bomb and even when he's in a straightjacket in Arkham, he still sounds threatening when he's once again trying to goad Batman into killing him.

I know of one moment that’s even more badass for the Joker: “Deliberately Killing His Own Daughter”. Ok, granted “Batman: April Fool” is fanfic, so it’s not part of the main DC, but it SHOULD be! Not only because Joker’s most-accepted origin story from the main DC is told from his daughter’s point of view after she reunites with him, but also because the big moment is capital “D” capital “A” capital “M” capital “N” as far as I’m concerned! She wasn’t in the wrong place at the wrong time, or said/did something that triggered him, so her death can’t be blamed on his illness. He’s deliberately snuffed out the life of his own child. So--by some miracle, without spoiling the whole story for anyone who’s interested--here’s the big moment reproduced, and I’ll let you decide whether or not you agree with me on this being par for Joker’s badassness:
April Napier: (smiling sadly, tearfully) Daddy--I’m truly grateful you feel that way. But you still have to END me!
Joker: (horrified and heartbroken) How can you ask me to do such a thing, sweetheart?
April: To protect you! Don’t you see, Daddy? By doing this, not only will you be grating me a merciful death, you will be proving to the world you are STILL just as STRONG, and as DANGEROUS, as ever! (lovingly clutching his wrist, looking him in the eye with conviction) That you have NOT grown WEAK--not in the SLIGHTEST! No one will DARE mess with you! (tearfully, voice cracking) Please, Daddy! End my pain--and let me help keep you safe!
(With tears in his own eyes now, Joker gently lifts April up and cradles her to him)
(As he hugs her, his hands slowly shift so that they are on her head and neck in a certain way)
April: (sadly smiling, softly singing) “Watching it all fade away!”
    SNAP!!!
    -----------------
Ok, I gotta say on reading this again, this is pretty badass for April, too! Like daddy, like daughter, I guess!

As a sort of tangent that touches the circle of the conversation at point, actors--part of me always wished that Luke Skywalker would actually turn to the dark side as originally intended and Mark Hamil would use his Joker voice (and mannerisms maybe?) to symbolize the duality of his characters. Ahh, what could have been. A sith Joker would've been pretty darn badass. XD oh to dream a dream of chance gone by.

In the why so serious section, they forgot to mention the whole ex special forces part, considering the normality of his many origins, and his actual fighting skills and intellect, I’d guess that he probably had some kind of military experience which probably was part of driving him insane in the movie, I’d even imagine that he’s probably ex military in the comics considering his skill set

I would argue some of your assumptions on point 3. When you read the Dark Knight Returns graphic novel, its made pretty clear that Batman choose not to kill the Joker on purpose. He intended for the broken neck to lead to permanent paralysis. Though it is still badass that the Joker kills himself to screw over Bats
