INSANE DRIVE across Sicily for THIS VIEW

- Vanlife couple Courts and Meeks, drive their self-built campervan across the width of Sicily to experience everything vanlife Italy has to offer. They drive up narrow, winding mountain road with crazy and impulsive Italian drivers coming towards them before they reach one of the best parkups on the whole island. Panermanic views from their van windows show Mount Etna, Europe's most active volcano to the right and sweeping sea scapes to the left. They end the weekend hiking 300 stairs from Castelmola to Taormina, where they encounter a snake and hundreds of geckos, before indulging in local ground coffee and authentic pizza.

Wow guys that was a windy road up at mountains but.....what a manifesent view where you parked🧡the walk down to the town looked a bit dodgy....but the coffee look good...then onto poshs pizza n lemonade 🍋 to boot....so grand .,..love it 💕🙏💕🤠🐨🦎🦘🌹🧡....not to forget the heart pumping snake 😭🙏💕 but the 🦎were cute.. 💕love you guys 🧡🧡🧡
Hey Linda, how are you this lovely morning? Thanks for watching and commenting as always. We were really lucky that the parkup worked out in the end after that drive - we reaaallly didn't want to drive back down that road so soon haha. When we eventually left, we got up really early the next day so no one was on the roads. Shame i didn't capture the snake on camera but it slipped away so quickly and it took a minute to compose myself!! sending you lots of virtual hugs x

Sicily is lovely. I've been to Taormina twice. First time we climbed to the top of Mount Etna. Second time was at a wedding in Savoca where the wedding scene in the Godfather film was filmed x
Wow, i bet going to a wedding in that area was beautiful! We really enjoyed the town - lots of pretty buildings and views to look at. Next video of ours will be about taking the van up Mount Etna! It was definitely an experience!

When I was in Italy (longer ago than I like to even think about), the tour guide told our group that when you rent a vehicle the vendor will give the remtor a card with instructions on what to do when you have an accident. It was a given that a crash WOULD occur.
So glad I was not driving, especially through Rome.

You guys were brave heading up to Taormina - even more so, Castelnola - in your van. Great respect! I chickened out and caught the bus. I've learnt my lesson in Sicily., almost the hard way. Done a few hilltop towns but no more🤫
You might have seen my other comment by now KiwiKen but it was a bit of a nervewracking drive! We decided to get up early the next morning and drive back down when noone was on the road haha.

Great video guys, definitely feel you when it comes to toll booths, I always end up having to undo the seat belt and lean right out the window to make it work 🙈 those narrow corners had our butt clenching a few times, but gorgeous views 😍
Cheers guys! I can only imagine how much of a pain in the peach they are for solo travellers on the wrong side of the car haha. I've started asking meeks to pull to the right so i can actually get out and use the machine instead. Lots of narrow roads on this trip so far - none of these islands are very big! hope you're enjoying your trip so far x

Yeah the town was really beautiful, worth the drive across the island for sure! Meeks was in heaven with the lemonade, very sweet though! It was 40 Euros in total, which includes a 3 Euro p/p service charge, which for the view and where we were we weren't too upset about paying. We've managed to see some of it but you're right it is very big and we'll have to miss some of the sights if we want to catch that ferry to Tunisia! Hope you're well!

I have a Sprinter camper van and travel alone. It took me some time to realise that the side door was the easiest option...

Ah awesome guys! Glad you're getting some good wifi! We used Turkcell when we were out in Turkey, very good signal and very cheap data. You could also top up on the app.... Maybe one to consider. Hope you're having a fab time!

Ha yeah it was quite the tense drive but we managed it in the end! They do seem to have their own crazy rules about driving here - I've been overtaken whilst doing the speed limit more times here in 2 weeks than ever before!

It was quite the climb Richie, especially with bellies full of pizza and lemonade, but we managed it. Let's just say we did nothing from about 4pm when we got back until we went to bed that night, absolutely pooped we were!

Hey again! It was such a pretty drive across Sicily. We feel so lucky and happy to be sharing it with you. The Italian drivers are a bit mental aren't they! And the narrow streets don't help in our huge van! And the snake was just the icing on the cake for getting the heart racing 🐍 ... You might be right about the exercise though. I've started running again each week so will try and keep that up. I just think I have a stupidly high heart rate 😝 it goes up to 190 someday when I'm running!! Hope you're having a good week ☺️

You guys are brave seeing the way locals drive is the main reason I don't hire or take a vehicle abroad, the scenery is spectacular and the best lemon's come from Sicily.
Courts you should be very wary of the snakes on the island as there are four species two of which are venomous (I googled when you said) Viper aspis looking at the picture similar to our Adder venous Green whip snake also venomous (strange Google says it is the only venomous snake on the island yet they say viper aspis is venomous) Aesculapian snake and European ratsnake they don't say if these two are venomous.

Yeah we've heard horror stories from people having bad experiences with local drivers but if we didn't drive abroad then we wouldn't get to see so much of the loveliness that is Sicily! Thanks for all that info on the snakes, we didn't realise that there were venomous ones so we will 100% keep an eye out! We're out in a national park at the moment so will keep our wits about us! I liked sicily when i went, but the rubbish everywhere made me despair.
The rubbish is a huuuuge problem here! Some roads we drive down are clearly just used as a local dumping ground because it's insanely bad. Very sad that they obviously don't have a decent system for dealing with it all so it encourages people to dump :(
How can you keep a straight face after telling us about a snake called Fluffy, no reaction from Meeks!
Hahaha I think Courts was still in a bit of shock at that point! When she told me about Fluffy, in my head I was like 'I can totally believe this about you' so I didn't even flinch haha! Hope you're well Peter!
How do solo Brits work the European tolls on the other side? I mean obviously you could park and climb over to the other seat, but in America toll booths are STRESSFUL (or they were they've gone digital in a lot of places) and people are impatient.
I often wonder what I would do if Courts wasn't there. It would have to be the frantic shimmy across the seats to try and pay but I wouldn't like to do that in Italy, even if you just take a few seconds longer people start honking at you here! To be fair I think Italians use their horn as a form of normal communication, bit mental! Hope you're doing well!
