Stopped in my local shop to fill out NFA paperwork for a suppressor, and I saw this in the display case (the case was otherwise empty except for one other rifle). It's funny, I was able to shoot one of the Indian Army marked ones. It was in the hands of a Pakistani Border Patrol gentleman who used to be on the eastern border. He told me that he snuck over one night and he and his fellow border agent stole 12 of them from the Indian Army outpost. He was promoted and moved to the western border near the FATA. That's where I met him. He was in charge of a garrison and it had a nice RPD MG, a couple of RPG's, a Russian AK and that SIG 716i, I told him the I stood for india...he took out his knife, made the I into a P. Was funny. Those 2 countries have both been at war forever but neither want to hurt each other. He told me his brother in law was an Indian Army colonel. Great fun shooting that day. For $20 I got to shoot a RPG. I guess they buy their own ammo if they need more than allotted. I let him shoot my M-14EBR
@@PhuVet Indian army does not maintain any border outpost with Pakistan along the international border (Siachen glacier being an exception but Siachen is in such isolated location and sits at such an altitude, that it can only be reached with helicopter and special mountaineer operations gears from the Pakistani side with heavy contingent platoon as well as artillery and close air support (that wont be played down as sneaking in for stealing anyway), not at gunfire range from the Pakistani side- so not worth taking risk for an individual Pakistani rangers personnel, rather beyond their capacity to sneak in along that part). It is BSF (Border Security Force) on the Indian side and Pakistani rangers on the Pakistani side who engage in cross country rifle fire exchanges during ceaaefire violations and if the ceasefire violation escalates, Indian army provides artillery fire from way behind (there are no army outposts, rather barracks and cantonment garrisons). Indian army received the first tranche of Sig Sauer 716Is in December 2019 (I dont know when exactly you came across that Pskistani personnel) and this particular type of weapons were made available to Indian army soldiers of the northern command posted in forward posts near the LAC (the defacto Indian border with China as the current foward posts are conflict deployment regular army infantry, especually after what happend in Ladakh in 2020), not near the border with Pakistan where ceasefire is observed. And Sig Sauers can be bought and modified with parts sold by the company and can be sold in the international black market. So either the Pakistani soldier was bluffing and was deliberately planted by the Pakistani side to tell a manufactured story on how inefficient Indian army personnel are and to signal to the west not to sell any sensitive or sophisticated weapon to India or else Pakistan is very efficient is stealing at sharing its technology with Pakistan as part of their cheap psyop or in the worst case scenario, some Pakistan sponsored terrorists (either Pakistani national or part of separatists groups living in the Indian side of Kashmir) managed to escape with a Sig Sauer they got their hands on during their encounters with Indian army personnel deep within Kashmir (as Indian army personnel from RR (Rashtriya Rifles) sometimes tske part in anti terrorist operations inside Kashmir) and they might have handed over that one off trophy to their Pakistani masters for them to fudge a story out of it.
Just bought one last week. Shot it at 300yds = 3 to 4 inch 3 shot groups, 600yds 6 to 8 inch 5 shot groups. Great rifle, no malfunctions with all kinds of ammo including steel. Likes the 168 and 175gr bullets. 150gr shoot about 2 MOA, Match 168 and 175 shoot about 1MOA if I do my part. Trigger was very heavy, about 8lbs, have trigger on order so I don't run out of breath trying to squeeze one off. My BARRETT REC10 shoots about the same but is lighter but twice the price. This SIG rifle is definitely worth the price. Paid $1400.00. Great video made me check out the SIG which I eventually bought. Appreciate all the info. Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend.
I'm so glad to see the Armalite spec receiver extension. That's all I use on my builds since it lets me use full length carbine buffers on my .308/6.5C builds and Vltor A5 on my AR15 builds. One tube for all.

WangChung what I’m saying is stores are either not getting no guns in. Or they are getting very small shipments that get bought out within a day. Same with ammo when they’re only getting smaller shipments and it’s weeks between shipments, again it’s all gone by the end of the day it’s put on the shelf

Don't buy sig 716i, my first sig and my last, the build is garbage, as stated in this review say the Bolt carrier is nitrided but it not! Is phosphate bcg! Very disappointed, the only thing sig got right is the aesthetic, sig have the cheapest part they can find on the rifle, i should have waited and go with the SA saint victor 308, SA products always been high quality in my experience.
Before someone says it, yes, there is no military spec for an AR10 buffer tube/extension. There is a SR-25 but it was an RFI weapon and no standard was established. These rifles were designed for the Indian Army Mountain units. These units need a 308 because of engagement distances and they operate from a series of concrete towers along their borders, much like a nicer version of the Pakistani Border Patrol towers. So don't conjure up photos in your minds of some 100lb Indian guy carrying these around, even though they do sometimes. It's not what they designed it for. The SD seems to show that it has the right buffer/dwell time and it doesn't seem overgassed as much as most. Good, solid buy.
I've got to say this: 1)The charging handle is proprietary so a Radian will not work. I tried. 2) Bought my Tread 716 new at my local range on a Friday, shot 65 rounds of factory on a Saturday, and 17 rounds on a Sunday and then the charging handle gets really hard to operate. Range Officer and I field strip the gun and find the bolt had cracked. Ranges sends it back to Sig for me and two weeks later, it's back. They replaced the bolt. I've yet to pick it up but I may just be selling it.
That rifle looks really good. I'm glad they're using nitride. I would love to pick one up if the market ever stabilizes. On another note, it seems like that barrel might not like that particular ammunition. I have a PSA gen 3 PA10 and I'm able to get 1 inch groups with PPU 165 grain PSP and 168 grain OTM. I'm definitely wanting to try some higher quality ammo to see what it can do. I think with m80 ball I was getting about 1.5 to 2 inch groups maybe... It was windy but something like that
The Sig 716i Tread looks really nice. My LGS has one for sale, and I was considering offloading my Smith & Wesson M&P 10 to get the Sig Tread, then mounting a SIg LPVO on it as well as some flip up sights. Unfortunately I don't have the money to keep or feed both. The M&P 10 is nice, but VERY gassy.
You can not use any charging-handles on this..the raptor will not fit. If you want the ambidextrous charging handle u must buy the sig brand one. Also the trigger is very gritty. I understand it's just milspec, but I went with the geissele ssa-e 2 stage. Beautiful weapon
I love the channel. Great videos always. I picked one of these up. Mine is the 716i with Sierra 3 BDX scope combo. I got it home and started messing around with the scope, and had no idea that it was a smart scope until I looked it up online. Really cool combo and great SHTF gun!
The TREAD line of rifles are definitely up there in value and quality. You get Sig quality in a rifle half the price of it's siblings. My only quip is how long it's taking Sig to get me my M400 TREAD. This damn virus business!
This is my opinion so take it as such. Charging handle is the first thing to replace,. Next the flash suppressor - it works OK but looks cheap, and lastly the trigger is horrid for a rifle of this price. Its better than milspec but not much and way to heavy pull for longer rang accuracy.
It’s a battle rifle its design is not for accuracy, at the same time it’s an accurate rifle for what it is. If you want accuracy first may I recommend a LaRue tactical that should be everything you are looking for, a close second would be an HK Mr 762 a1.
I know this is an older video and the older reviews indicate the 716 ,the 716 g2, the 716 patrol are piston guns. The later specs on the 716i show D I operating systems. That may well be the confusion for some viewers including me. I have a 716i tread for about 2years. Sigs spec sheet refers to it as di. So are both available or was there a change in the specs from the original and the ones offered now?
@@raydon14ify Don't forget, the stock in the video is a sl 'k' version which is smaller than the regular 'sl' version. I would argue that for a 308 AR, the magpul acs works better. It has a better cheek weld, heavier weight to counter the front heavy barrel, the buttpad area is a quarter longer vertically for a better shoulder purchase. Minimalistic and compact isn't necessarily good for a rifle that size.
My Employer bought over 200 Sig 716s to issue to officers . They didn’t make it out of the T&E phase and never made it out to issue . Sig sent engineers twice to try and fix the problems (dead triggers , FTF, other problems) Sig ended up buying them all back .
@@Derek-1145 you can according to SIG. I did the case measurements after shooting brass expect about .005 case stretch with this barrel. Sig figures you will never reload and over stretched cases does not matter. However, today I found two boxes of 308 PMC brass was made under spec in head space. This caused lights primer strikes with the PMC. Same time worked fine in my friends 308. The larger headspace may case running issues on some cheaper 308.
So much like there 556 should not be shot in a 223 barrel. The same rule had been no 308 in a 7.62 NATO. Why is Sigs 7.62 ok to shoot 308? I already figured it out on my own no thanks to SIG. I used my reloading equipment to figure it out.
Great review. I'm looking at Sig 716i and Springfield Saint Victor in 308. You've a great video on the Saint Victor in 308. In your opinion, which is a better rifle? I like that 716i is ambi while Saint Victor is not. I also hear that the trigger in the Saint Victor is better than the 716i. Appreciate your opinion and thanks for the amazing video
BCG and the charging handle is SIG proprietary, the same as they did on Gen 1 716's. Your other AR10 standard BCG and charging handles will not fit. There are two companies that I am aware of that make a specific charging handle that works. Ask Sig if you do not believe it. BTW: They advertise the gun comes with an AMBI charging handle. It is shown in the picture of the gun on their web site and says "ambi controls" above it. It is also mentioned in Sigs own video on youtube. They deleted the video on their website when I brought it up.
With the sig 175gr ammo I was expecting a better group. Also you said it has a h2 buffer in it, most of the carbine stock'd 308 ar's I've seen come with a h3.
Really liked the vid! Thinking about getting the 716i TREAD. Whats the difference between the Tread that has the orange TREAD emblem on the hand guard and the one that doesn't?
You can switch out the hand guards on the 716i? I didn’t know that but I do know the m400 from sig is impossible to do unless you utilize the aftermarket sig hand guard that they provide for the m400
Has there been any new options for the ambi charging handle? I tried a Raptor before I learned this was a proprietary part. Thanks for the detailed review i have been happy with my 716 for over a year now.
WARNING!!! Sig Sauer no longer produces the 716i with nitride barrels, or a chrome bolt carrier group. My bolt carrier group isn't even nitrided. Just phosphate. I'm majorly pissed. The firing pin is also different and looks cast. Im pretty angry. Fuck sig.
wait...so the 716i has a rifle length buffer system instead of a carbine length? So i could switch out the standard stock with a Magpul or Luther fixed stock without having to replace the buffer tube?
Great review. I took a look at one and noticed a notch where the upper receiver and handguard meet. I do not think “any” handguard will fit. I’ve been wrong before, so I may be wrong again. Do you have the ability to try and install an aftermarket charging handle? I do not own one, and have contacted Sig about it. With the rifle being so new, the Sig representative hinted that the charging handle may be proprietary. If you have an aftermarket AR10 charging handle, would you mind sharing that information? Thank you sir!
It is Sig proprietary that matches 716G2 charging handle. I bought a early 716 Tread and the only upgrade charging handle available I could find is the Phase 5 716 Battle Latch.
what about the tapered muzzle crown, you cannot put just any muzzle brake on it without a special adapter, like APPLE, they want you to buy all of their crap
I tried a A.R. 10 and Geissele charging handle and it would not work was there something wrong with the charging handle or is it not compatible with that particular bolt carrier it would go out together but you could not call back the bolt carrier group it’s locked
2.5MOA rifle that will run like a sewing machine at that price point!, yes! Throw on a ZIGZAUER optic and suppressor and a Rubbermaid tub of D&H magazinrs and sign me up!
I had a first gen. sig 516 it was not a good rifle (im not trolling) are the newer sig rifles better in quality and fit finish ? i like the idea of this 716.
I have 3 516 gen 2 and I couldn't be more satisfied, smooth as silk, I have yet to have 1 malfunction, no bull, I know with sig you can get a lemon and it will never be right, but if you're lucky enough to get one that runs the way it supposed to, they're sweeeet
@@tylervanwormer8302 308 is a higher pressure round than 7.62x51, or it is the opposite for 223 and 5.56, the 5.56 being a much higher pressure. But as a guess, it should shoot both 308 and 7.62 fine. I have not seen any Sig gins that can’t run both.
Usually you have to pull the adjustment locking pluger dohickey down manually without using the lever. The lever typically doesn't pull it down far enough to pull the stock off of the buffer tube.
I'm not impressed with it. I got that package deal with the bluetooth 4x16x44 scope. The 1:10 barrel sends anything less than 168 grain squirreling all over the place, especially in cold weather. Mine has an issue where the charging handle locks up almost all the time. Another issue where the bolt doesn't go all the way forward (but the lugs lock) and causes the bcg to get jammed up causing the next round to get absolutely destroyed trying to enter the chamber. I've taken it back to where I bought it a couple times and they can't figure it out. I've called Sig, but they won't give me a straight answer, they just want me to send it to them. I've ran it wet, run it dry, disassembled and rebuild it 100 fkn times, but it still won't run correctly. Don't waste your time or money with this thing if your thinking about getting one. It's a heavy malfunctioning proprietary piece of crap that will leave you using it as a baseball bat because that's the thing that I can see it being good for.

I really like my piston 716 (gen 1.) I've been taking a hard look at this one as its half the cost.
Spuhr gets much respect.
Spuhr is a master toolmaker/machinist. Undoubtedly the finest in this entire industry. Expensive but worth every penny
Wonder why those k style stocks aren’t more popular. So slick
Why would they be?
Kou Vue Minimalistic, and compact. It’s nothing more than it needs to be.
I got 3/4 moa five shot groups at 100 yds using 168gr federal gold medal match.
Thanks a lot for this very informative overview Sir. Greetings from 🇨🇭
My Employer bought over 200 Sig 716s to issue to officers . They didn’t make it out of the T&E phase and never made it out to issue . Sig sent engineers twice to try and fix the problems (dead triggers , FTF, other problems) Sig ended up buying them all back .
Which agency is this?
ElTejon47901 id rather not say on an open forum
@@trentwoodfin8767 So, a secret contract? But it was the SIG716 external piston, yes?
ElTejon47901 not a secret , I just don’t want to name my employer on a RUclips comment section

Indian army ordered more than 140,000 of these rifles for the Northern Command. that says something.
Awesome looking rifle
I would like to see you talk more on the barrel being a 7.62 NATO and how they address the 308 pressure concern.
So you can’t shoot 308 ?
@@Derek-1145 you can according to SIG. I did the case measurements after shooting brass expect about .005 case stretch with this barrel. Sig figures you will never reload and over stretched cases does not matter. However, today I found two boxes of 308 PMC brass was made under spec in head space. This caused lights primer strikes with the PMC. Same time worked fine in my friends 308. The larger headspace may case running issues on some cheaper 308.
This rifle is a 7.62 NATO barrel not a 308 Winchester. I own it.
So much like there 556 should not be shot in a 223 barrel. The same rule had been no 308 in a 7.62 NATO. Why is Sigs 7.62 ok to shoot 308? I already figured it out on my own no thanks to SIG. I used my reloading equipment to figure it out.
It can shoot .308 just fine with no damage from what I've seen to the cases.
Both are excellent. But the 716i is a military service weapon. It’s proven itself. That’s enough to push me over the edge between the two.
The new battle rifle of the indian infantry 💪💪🇮🇳🇮🇳
With the sig 175gr ammo I was expecting a better group. Also you said it has a h2 buffer in it, most of the carbine stock'd 308 ar's I've seen come with a h3.
Chris Cosby properly gassed with gas port size.
I get under 1moa with 168gr bthp produced by Orr Tactical in Needville, Tx. My optic is a Tract Optics Response 4-16x42 BDC.
Brazil say Hello!! Good Job!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Really liked the vid! Thinking about getting the 716i TREAD. Whats the difference between the Tread that has the orange TREAD emblem on the hand guard and the one that doesn't?
Man this is a great learning experience, I love it👍👍
You can switch out the hand guards on the 716i? I didn’t know that but I do know the m400 from sig is impossible to do unless you utilize the aftermarket sig hand guard that they provide for the m400
I'm sure one could you'd just have to use the provided barrel nut with said handguard
Has there been any new options for the ambi charging handle? I tried a Raptor before I learned this was a proprietary part. Thanks for the detailed review i have been happy with my 716 for over a year now.
Seems like a good rifle.
Hello. Can 716i fired supresed with supressor, subsonic ammo and still cyckling?
Great review . In your opinion . Is it possible to get a faxon 8.6 blackout barrel on this fine rifle ?
WARNING!!! Sig Sauer no longer produces the 716i with nitride barrels, or a chrome bolt carrier group. My bolt carrier group isn't even nitrided. Just phosphate. I'm majorly pissed. The firing pin is also different and looks cast. Im pretty angry. Fuck sig.
Just picked mine up. Cant wait to shoot it.
Stll cant decide if i should buy 1 todayyyu..
2_4-14x36
wait...so the 716i has a rifle length buffer system instead of a carbine length? So i could switch out the standard stock with a Magpul or Luther fixed stock without having to replace the buffer tube?
Chris I see you did put an ASR brake or flash hider on it to see how she performs suppressed
Walter White no sir, that is the muzzle devise it came with
LoL I miss spelled there, I ment to say that you didn't put an ASR device
0228mustang much appreciated. Thank you for your time
Could you please do a video on the colt 700 series. Like the 723 and 733 delta carbines
what about the tapered muzzle crown, you cannot put just any muzzle brake on it without a special adapter, like APPLE, they want you to buy all of their crap
Hey I've got one and put a surfire SOCOM on it and it works great surfire provides washers specifically for that taper
I’ve got a dead air brake on mine.
I tried a A.R. 10 and Geissele charging handle and it would not work was there something wrong with the charging handle or is it not compatible with that particular bolt carrier it would go out together but you could not call back the bolt carrier group it’s locked
Does the extractor have an o ring on the spring I just took a new one apart that didn’t have one
It looked like no hearing protection was being worn while shooting
It’s in the ear, I’m sure Chris values his hearing as much as the rest of us.
I thought this was a direct impingement system not a piston
Internal piston
Excellent sir
Nice video!
Which would be the gun you could compare this best to?
Tried to purchase the recommended rail covers and the Manta checkout said there is no such coupon code SAS20. Has this expired? Thank you
They changed it, BAR20

Is that handguard plug and play with the M400 Tread? I'd much rather have the 716i tread handguard over the stock M400 handguard.
No sir, proprietary
@@SmallArmsSolutions ah dang. I was hoping since it's a "Tread" version it would be interchangeable. Thank you for the info though!
I have the sig 716. So far I am happy with it.
Pakistanis and Chinese will get taste of this rifle, infact I believe Pakistani must already received lead by now.
The shoulder on that barrel looks odd. How’s a flash hider for a can lock up on it ?
it's an infomercial, that's why I watch at 2am
Is the barrel actually 16” or 14 with a 2” muzzle break ?
Probably the dumbest question ever. Why would they sale a rifle where the muzzle device would have to be pin and welded?
Is it really 8 pounds or 8.5 pounds?
Does anyone know if it takes LR308 barrels?
any link for the scope used?
Can I fire 7.62 x 51mm ball ammunition from this weapon?
Yes sir
SmallArmsSolutions Thanks!
@@SmallArmsSolutions do you know why they went with a rifle length gas system, and does it offer any benefits?
is that a serious question?
Sig Tread ARs, so easy a caveman can use it!
Did you just call me caveman? My name is Daryl lmao
I’ll have the duck with mango salsa
Is your 716i chambered in 7.62x51 or 308? I just purchased one, but on my lower and manual 7.62x51 is on it. TIA
???
7.62 × 51 and .308 are almost the same except brass thickness. So yeah you can use
@@FauziNomad isn't 308 higher pressure? So can you shoot both in it?
@@tylervanwormer8302 308 is a higher pressure round than 7.62x51, or it is the opposite for 223 and 5.56, the 5.56 being a much higher pressure.
But as a guess, it should shoot both 308 and 7.62 fine. I have not seen any Sig gins that can’t run both.
308 with no ear pro...?
I am wearing ear plugs
I have a sig 716 patrol piston upper , can I swap out the upper with the 716i upper and keep the lower that I have from the 716 patrol
Never tried it, anything I would say would be a guess. Probably be cheaper to buy a complete rifle than just the upper
DPMS GEN2 Pattern?
I'm having a hard time removing the stock? How do you take it off?
Usually you have to pull the adjustment locking pluger dohickey down manually without using the lever. The lever typically doesn't pull it down far enough to pull the stock off of the buffer tube.
Read the Magpul Instructions. They supply a black dummy round that assists in removal.
AR-10 buffer tube is the same length as an A5 buffer tube, right?
Do you not wear hearing protection when you shoot? Or are the plugs just so deep that I cannot see them?
WHAT?
I am wearing ear plugs
If he wasn't wearing ear protection believe me he would be deaf 😆
Why didn't you just send it back? It s free..... Do you still have it?
I disagree whole heartedly, if you won’t even send it in that makes me think something is amiss.
The way it's hitting your shoulder looks like it kicks like a mule
That’s shooting off a bench. Stuff that isn’t that bad standing or kneeling beats the snot out of ya.
Thats flash hiders for ya.
I have a 716i Tread and experienced the same kick...I have installed a No Kick Buffer, but have not had a chance to try it yet. Will let you know.
Pretty attractive price !
Do people really care about the play between the lower and upper?
What did it run? Also does Sig sell lowers?
