- We hold Wine Olympics! It’s the 1st tournament of light weight reds. Todays players are Guidalberto-Italian Supertuscan, Orme de Pez-French Bordeaux Saint-Estephe, Zorah Karasi-Armenian Qvevri wine, M.O.B. Senna-Portuguese Dao, Numanthia-Spanish Toro! Who will go to the final?

The price range seems super adequat. 30-50$ seems like they are the (younger) topathletes while a 100+$ price range has more of a "legend" status. Really enjoyed the video, thank you guys!

I totally agree in the 30-50 USD bracket. You can drink so well there. Glad the MOB showed well, I love it. Sad the Zorah didn’t show as well. If we ever got the chance to taste together, I wanted to bring that because I thought it would match with Peter’s palate. The second grape in MOB is pronounced Al fro shire.
I have a 2016 Ormes De Pez, and I would highly recommend it over the 2018 at this time, but overall I'm happy to see a winner from one of my favorite producers from Saint-Estephe. Love your content! As a big wino I'm always thirsty for good wines and you guys always give great recommendations! thank you for your great content.
Peter I'm from Namibia and we mostly only get south african wines available. Please do a video where you review different common South African wines, especially those from KWV and Stellenbosh

Ormes de Pez 2018 is great indeed. I was very pleased by Tour de Pez in 2018 vintage too, another Cru Bourgeois in Saint-Estèphe appellation that is very well made. There are so many gems in Saint-Estèphe...Haut Marbuzet, Calon Ségur, Château Montrose, the land of great minerally wines.
I can't be the only one enjoying Phélan Ségur either.

Love your channel. I Started tasting French and Italian Wines because of you, guys! I would like to see you tasting Portuguese wines. More like a challenge where you taste wines with the same average price but from different areas of Portugal, such as Douro, Dão, Bairrada, Alentejo and Algarve.

You should do a video with good Portuguese red wines (from that price range). One from each region. The best are (best and north to south of the country): Douro, Dão, Lisboa, Setúbal, Bairrada, Alentejo. Portuguese viewers would love it and it would give a lot of information to those not familiar with this great wine country!!
To me, wines from Portugal are some of the most exciting and the quality to price is about the best in the world.

Another video that came out during my wine time! Wine pairing for the video was a nice crisp Italian Falanghina del Sannio on this warm summer evening which went quite well with anchovy on toast before dinner.
Good to see a Dão featured on your channel! But shame the Spanish wine didn't make it! I think Portugal and Spain offer great quality for their prices. Jay, you should try some Garnacha (and the viewers too)! Cheers all!!!
Loved this video. Totally right about the $2 wines videos - that was good to know what not to buy. Today’s video is interesting. Although it is good to know Ormes DP got second place as I love Bordeaux, it is also good to know that the excessive oak is not great if had straight away like today. Would love to know if the winner order is the same if left to breathe for some time

You guys should start an online wine club. Membership would include a bottle of reasonably priced wine every month, followed by a zoom meeting for members with a tasting and discussion. It would be a hit.

Touriga Nacional is not exactly an unknown grape. It's the go-to varietal in Vintage Port and is an authorized varietal in Bordeaux. It's a noble grape prized for it's deep color, high tannin, high acid, black fruit and floral characteristics.

Oh please, as if it’s a big deal that the grape is authorized in Bordeaux. No one would consider the grape noble outside of Portugal or possibly South Africa.

Can you do a blind tasting of some white wines from the region of Beaune please? (Thinking about a chateauneuf du pape, chassagne de Montrachet,…) I think that this is a great region for explaining the importance of the soil as well as the age of the grape vines. The fact that you two love mineraly chablis makes me think that you will love these kind of wines.
A fun alteration can be trying dessert wines like beaune de Venise or sauterne especially 20+ year old ones.

It's very hard, but I recommend getting hold of some Swiss wines if you can. Pinot Noir from Graubünden is spectacular, perhaps just behind Burgundy for quality and unbeliveably underrated. I also really enjoy some merlot from Ticino.

I'm outraged that the qvevri wine was Armenian and not Georgian (just joking!), but glad to to see qvevri wines represented! Keep up the good work, these videos are super fun!
Hi Jay… could be real cool and really interesting to make some videos related to specific grape variety… for example : Pinot, which aromas we should find from this grape and then the differences we used to find between Bourgogne Pinot noir, and Pinot noir from other parts of the world for example. To understand how terroir and élevage can change the characteristics of those grapes. Then it would be cool for example to have some bottles recommendations in order to taste typical wines from a grape variety. I mean you may suggest a bottle from Cabernet franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, merlot, Pinot, Sangiovese , Nebbiolo, Syrah etc really representative of the taste of each type of grape.
You can do that for main varieties : Pinot, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet franc, Syrah, Grenache, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, etc
And also the different colors of these grapes

Hey Jay! I suggest you do a third chapter of the olympics with less known wine countries! We have a very different wine here in Brazil that’s Called Guaspari! That’s made in winter to fool the grapes. The syrah is awarded by the decanter . But is a little to sweet for me . If you can find a Cabernet franc/Cabernet Sauvignon blend in the states , I think you will be surprise by the quality! Cheers !
