I like how you're so direct in telling us to study our favorite artists and even being creative is not enough to create our style. This helped me a lot more than the other artists that I've been following. They keep on telling us, "study this and that to be better" and it feels like the idea keeps on repeating itself. It's frustrating because not everyone can help everybody just like how you just did. So, thank you for the advice! It means a lot to me.

Hi! Thanks so much for your comment! I totally feel what you mean. It's easy to get lost and not knowing what to do to improve. I was stuck in that kind of situation before and it sucks. Sometimes it's best to just do a bunch of "meaningless" copies of your fav artists. I find this to be the quickest way to actually get better. Of course you still have to study the fundamentals (anatomy, color, perspective, composition) though to get an understanding of how things work. :)

i definitely agree with what you said. what we create is a culmination of all the things that inspire and move us; and that ends up showing through our creative work. this is why a lot of the times the artist sometimes 'looks' like their work. their tendency to draw and colour in a certain way really shows through. i think the most important thing is to really study and understand the foundations of drawing (anatomy perspective, colour, etc) , and everything else will fall into place the more you absorb the things around you that take your interest. great video!

Your words are extremely true and they made me confident about finding my own. I watched this video about after a week it came out, and that day I made a plan to work hard on a drawing for a week, the next week a new drawing. After so many, I'll use all of the techniques I've learned in every piece of art and combine them to make something beautiful, no matter how long it took or what the style of it was. I'm so happy with my results and it's given me a new outlook on my art. I have what I've always strived, an art style. Thank you for sharing, your art is outstanding.

I was having the same issue but after drawing some more I began noticing things that only come up in my pictures, I'm still a LONG way from being great, but that's what it's all about. I always say there's no such thing as a great artist because an artist is always on a mission to evolve. I had a hard time grasping that concept. I'm glad you got this message out because more young artists like me need to hear it. Everyone thinks it's all about speed and skill. A great artist is one who's always trying to learn and improve. You should never focus on trying to be good, but on the task at hand which is improving. Time and practice will carry you a long way.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts ! I like your style ! I ve been doing a research about imagination in art , for a university essay , and what i realise is that imagination is the ability to recall in your minds thinngs that you ve seen - observe ( it has to do with perception in general ) , and acording to that when you try to create something from imagination you actually combine things you ve seen and noticed before .Therefore what you said about studing your inspirations is true and important if you want to find a unique style , because by observing you add to your imagination , and there's no better way to observe from sketching and drawing !

I subscribed 3 minutes into this video. This was really refreshing since a lot of the videos about this topic tell you not to worry and dont talk about how to find your style. Instead they talk about how it will come to you, and you should just wait a year. Well, I’ve been drawing for 4 years now, and I still don’t have a style.(also I always wanted to study my inspirations, but I was always to lazy. Ever since watching this video I’ve more into it.

Wow...your video is the only one that has helped me! Many others said that it’ll just come naturally but I felt that you gave a sense of guidance on how to actually achieve trying to find your art style. I never thought to analyze or study the many artists I’ve admired & taking what I like to create something new. Thanks sooo much ❣️

OMG I've been following your instagram account for a while and I never knew you had a youtube channel. Your art is such an inspiration and I agree I've went through the exact same feelings you went through and I'm still kinda going through them. There is a thin line between stealing art and taking inspiration from a certain artist or more. And I honestly believe after real life references comes the main inspirations and at times you could learn more from someones art then from real life. But I do believe that developing a style definitely needs real life inspiration for it to have a sense of originality. Because at the end of the day art and "sketching" in particular is nothing but our own interpretation our environment and further more it's also our own way of manipulating line work into visualizing a dimensional form. Which in turn becomes unique to others and they deem it as a so called "style".

I clicked on the video because of the art in the thumbnail, specifically the way the locks were colored. But your approach on finding your art style is really good and it’s more relaxing, easygoing, and you can actually have fun while doing it instead of stressing. Could you do a tutorial on coloring different kinds of hairstyles like locks, straight hair, poofy hair, etc?

Great information. Agreed on adapting and implementing other artists styles to eventually create your own. I see that happening in my own work. Agreed also on constantly growing. Very important.

I really need to take this to heart ! Everything you said is just so relevant, especially about everything already having been done before. I used to think that in order to stand out I'd have to start drawing my eyes upside down or something (might actually be cool who knows 😆). This reminded me that I should just go with whatever flow I'm feeling that day and whatever inspires me at that exact moment, and just go from there

This is 100% true, in the end Art always inspires Art... by copying and bringing so much influences from different artists in the end you get a new result totally new and totally yours. The combination is unique. And this applies for every form of art.

I found my style by itself and by mostly accident. Like some, I aimed for an anime style too much as a middle school student. This didn't help me at all because I set the bar too high for myself to draw a mainstream style. I decided to drop it like you which let me have time to think and find other styles myself. One day I drew an eye in my own simplistic style. From there, I shaped all my other drawings around it. I have changed so much in a short time, no, improved since the beginning of the year.

Great advice. I heard something very similar when you design a character. After you design a character, you should redraw it several more times. The more you draw it, the more stream line the design gets and the better the design gets. Thank you for making the video 😊

I agree on everything you say c: at first I was so frustrated at how my art changes all the time and people kept asking me "did you really drew this ? but it looks so different." But now I feel good about my experimental stuff. It's just pure fun to learn and try new things and put everything together in one piece. And some of my friends made me realize that I already got my " own style™ " since they always recognize my drawings and know it's me - no matter how experimental it was.
Thanks for your video and your art is amazing!

Very true about evolving, I’m self taught, I’ve been drawing since I was a little girl and tips and things you pick up here and there do help change your drawing style. I started from round
Faces to structured faces from looking at faces in books, the T.V. Guide and also Conan the Barbarian Comic magazines. I’m still learning 🙂
