This video needs so many more views. You just helped me so much. You told me exactly what i needed and I've seen plenty of videos before to solve this question that didn't work.
Thank you very much. Your video is helpful.. I am stuck to make different objects and methods. But its really truth i must keep my energy in one thing.👏👏
Hey Sophie, I recently pulled out all my sketch pads and drawings I done in the past. And to my surprise I've done a lot through the decades and some of those years were very difficult years. As I looked at what I've done I realized what I love doing the most is drawing using graphite combined with charcoal. I've used some watercolor, but mainly my drawings are in graphite. And my favorite subject to draw are musicians, especially jazz musicians and music themes. I discovered your videos today. Great timing. And I love your accent. Thanks Sophie for your help. From Kingsville, Ohio 🎉 😀 ❤ Blessings and Shalom 🎨👏🎨👏🎨👏👋👋👋😀❤
I understand what you are saying, my business is called GVE Designs, it’s brand new and I called it designs, because I wanted to do several types of drawings/ paintings, I want to do fashion models, buildings, and flowers , there are so many ideas out there that I don’t want to lock myself to one thing .
Yet, when I look at art history, I don't see this narrow focus among so many top name artists. There are many top name artists who did not focus on one type of art. Picasso was a painter, sculptor, ceramicist, did prints & also worked in numbers of different art movements including his own invention of Cubism. Matisse painted, & was a printmaker, & did stained glass windows. Chagall did painting & ceramics, stained glass, & more. Michelangelo painted & was a sculptor. Gustav Klimt painted figures/ portraits, large mural commissions for institutions, & landscape painting. Louise Bourgeois did large scale installations, sculptures (out of diverse materials, such as metals, but also, sewn fabric), & drawings. Isa Gentzken's art included sculpture, photography, found-object installation, film, drawing and painting. Robert Rauschenberg worked in painting, sculpture, prints, photography, and performance. Cy Twombly was a painter & sculptor. Etc, etc. ????
Thank you Sophie! This is so relevant to me. I’ve been a creative Jack of all trades. I studied industrial design, visual communication design and art, and I have worked as a graphic/branding designer, illustrator, and surface designer for consumer products for fashion and home. I’m currently at a fork in my creative road. 🖥️🎨🖼️📝📕✒️ not sure which path to take next.
Oh wow that's quite a list of experience! I guess you have to ask yourself, which part of that really lights you up? What couldn't you live without doing? If you could start over and do just one thing what would that be? Time to get that journal out I recon!! 🥰
Sophie, I watched your finding your niche video again and it help to reaffirm what I want kind of artwork I really want to do. I've been talking to you a lot today. Thank you for your help. from Kingsville, Ohio, Cynthia🙂
Thanks, Sophie - very interesting video and so true... I have been learning and growing as a colour pencil artist for the last year and a bit and love it... but recently discovered pastels and their different qualities, advantages and disadvantages and am now rather torn from my love of both! I really want to niche down to one... (although in this case, they can be combined in a painting anyway!!!). I think I am going to spend this year exploring both and see what happens, if a winner emerges. I am in no rush to build my business at the moment - my goal is to develop this in 4 or 5 years into something more concrete, so I have playtime for now :)
Hi Sophie just found you on you tube! Thank you for the video, I have 2 niches and I really can’t choose! 🙈😂 one is watercolour illustrations which I have been doing for businesses more recently and the second is an oil painter, could you not have them as separate businesses and market as such? 🤔 I am currently doing no action as I’m lost in this! X
Hi Elaine, so glad you're here! Oh this niche thing is huge isn't it! To answer your question, yes you could have two brands under your own name, just remember though that both will need a seperate business plan, as they'll have different products, target audiences and marketing plans etc...So if you are a full-time artist it might be possible to do that...Otherwise is there anyway to morph the two together somehow? 😃
@@SophieMahir thank you for replying, hadn’t thought of that, I need to allow myself to play, I was watching your video on target audience yesterday I think part of my problem is my main audience which is on Facebook is from my teaching, majority of last 18 years has been focussing on keeping everyone happy using completely different subjects and mediums and not my ‘true voice paintings’ so it feels like I should start again with a new page which is just the paintings I want to create so I can find my target audience? 🤔
No one ever told me this, thank you so much. I have been wondering all over the place for years and years. So incredibly helpful.
I’ve watched 2 of your videos so far and found them very helpful. Thank you 😊
