Even before the popular original Picasso spatula came out, I remember in many of Pony’s makeup videos from long long ago (like at least 8 years ago?), she was using an art palette knife to spread foundation on her cheeks for application. She was the one who made me start trying this method years ago. While I’m sure she wasn’t the first person to start using an art palette knife for makeup, Pony’s videos were already very very popular back then. I can only imagine how she felt when over the last year it suddenly became a trend to do this lol. She must’ve been like wtf this is literally what I’ve been doing since forever.
I can attest to how quick and easy it’s been washing my cushion puffs since using the spatula method. I tend to let them pile up until I’m almost out of clean cushion puffs and then clean them because it’s so time consuming. But now I just soak the puff in a little cleansing oil for a few mins and then use a bar soap to push the product out and get rid of the oil and that’s it
@Um chile anyways so… im not sure if we are talking actual sponge, or a cushion puff (which is what the original comment said, but i dont really use bc i use a sponge.. like a "beauty blender" type sponge), but i do also wash my beauty sponge after a couple of uses. I just wash it with a little soap right before im using it for that day. I mean, i have to get it wet anyway, and it only takes 2 mins to add soap and massage it in and wring it out🤷♀️ Idk why so many people have such disgusting beauty blenders for so long bc it doesn't take long to clean. If i had to wait for it to dry completely before using it next, then that might be a different story lol. Not sure if theres something more to washing a cushion or not though🤔
@@naenae1114 No. People *make the time* because you don't want to introduce bacteria that causes break outs to your face because you are not keeping them clean. You can clean them in a cup while you sit on a toilet if you say you don't have time.
Don't wear any make up except bb cream every so often, but I will watch the ENTIRE long form Eddy vid. I just appreciate his expertise. So calming and educational. The Bob Ross of Fil-Am Korean Makeup Influencers.
im always too scared to use foundation because i dont how much im supposed to use or how to apply it and your videos really help me a lot, im taking notes very seriously
you're probably already better off than most beginners with make-up, just going by the fact you're watching his videos. i remember when i started wearing make-up the foundation was at least three shades too dark and yellow, not blended and cakey as hell 😭 you'll most likely be just fine
omg i used to be you!! i really benefited from the jungsaemmool tutorial about base makeup. iirc the artist explains that you don’t need to really cover ALL of your face with a thick layer of foundation, and she does a great job of demonstrating with someone who has blemished skin (which is every normal person, honestly). it was super informative and user friendly and now i apply foundation everyday lol!!
If u have nice skin, skip foundation entirety. I never use the foundation that I bought because concealer gets the work done perfectly. But if you do want to use foundation, start with half a pump. It goes a long way
When I used to wear foundation, I spread foundation with my middle finger all over my face before using a sponge so the sponge doesn’t absorb drops of foundation. Also I’ve heard “fingers are your best makeup tools” and I agree because of the heat, it speaks easier. I guess the spatula is good for makeup artist and being sanitary.
Wet n Wild's foundation used to come with a spatula attached to the interior of the cap and at the time people dunked on it but I thought it was real nifty, glad to see people waking up to spatulas!
I was tempted to buy this spatula after watching an MUA use it in her insta reel. But just like you said, it’s basically just a fancier art spatula so that’s what I got instead. At least the Picasso one isn’t horribly over priced tho- $8 USD isn’t too pricey.
I really like this method because it helps to fill in the pores as well (tapping with a sponge contributes a lot) and the skin texture looks so good but, yeah, very natural at the same time
i like these but also they lowkey take up more time 😭 definitely like using it to put a thin even layer of foundation or concealer but like not so much for skincare..
can attest to the spatula method of applying foundation!! i use an amazon knockoff of the Picasso spatula and estee lauder doublewear foundation. it’s the best way of applying a runny, liquid foundation for me! i only found out about this method through the jungsaemool vid tutorial about base makeup lol! the makeup artist they have literally uses a hwahong spatula and everything but she demonstrates the technique well to a newbie ❤
@@violetviolet888o it’s metal? non absorbent, stiff, easy to disinfect, aka well suited for spreading swathes of runny product on the flat portions of your face…? your point…?
@@_kakfa I can do the same thing with my fingers (which also warm the product), or get even distribution with very little product using a quality brush, and/or perfect texture with a proper Beauty Blender that does not absorb product in just a few seconds. This gadget is entirely unnecessary and created for profit by the company and takes longer to apply with too much product. The structure of the face is not flat, it's a gimmick. Created to make you think you need to spend money on it.
I have bought a couple of spatulas from Picasso myself, but for some reason I don’t really use them that often. I loved the laid back vibes on this video, Edward! 👍🏻🥰💝💕❤️
Its so unnecessary lol Its just another gadget. It just applies, you still must go in and spread out/even out the product. Its another step in a multi step process...
I was thinking the same, i have one from years ago that came with a kit and do use it to combine say like concealers or foundations with primers, etc., onto a metal slate that came with it or just my hands. However, its like he said, I would only find it more useful as a professional makeup artist whose working with clients and instead of using disposable wands, using these spatulas instead. Not a necessity when a lot of us have our fingers to use, and the warmth from them helps more.
I like using spachulas (or in my case the back side of a butter knife lol) with pot concealer. I find that it's a bit more hygenic as well as it clumps less and is easier to apply thinly
To me personally, this seems so unnecessary in a usual everydyay makeup routine. Using a brush, puff or sponge is waaayyy faster. As Edward said, more MUA oriented tool probably.
just a small question, have you considered using a dermapen for pores and acne scars?... for me it makes wonders, i've had only one session and it blew my mind away. i have very enlarged pores on my nose and around the nose area. and i mean VERY enlarged pores. think of seeing a person and the first 3 things you notice are the pores on their face. and after i bought a dermapen and did everything by book, especially the hygiene and after care thing, it amazes me how much of a difference it makes. i can barely wait for the next session 😂 given the fact that you take so much care of your skin, i think that microneedling would make wonders for you as well!
0:56 It's the angle and flexibility of the spatula, not to mention blunt edge. However a straight edge makes no sense when in contact with applying cosmetics to the facial structure-none of which is straight. This is a perfect example of fabricating marketing scheme to create desire and profit off of consumers.
I usually use the Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation and apply it with a spatula and it works sooooo nice because the foundation itself already gives that second skin effect while being full coverage but then adding it on in such a thin layer?!.... Honey 👏🏻 And it lasts the whooole day
Ooo loved the outcome of using the spatula but I personally cba to do that haha I just use the cushion that comes with the foundation and then use a slightly wet sponge to make it less cake-y
this looks like it will take 3 years to finish your make up lol i'm too impatient for this method i think. i'm also on team "slather it all on with your fingers" 😅
So I'm someone with super reactive, sensitive skin. This appeals to me especially--just the swirls in my fingerprints can be abrasive enough on like half of my face, that it kinda feels like I've scrubbed my face more. (and that's not rough hands, too much pressure, or excessive rubbing. My skin is just like this, idk.) But I use jade rollers and stone massage type things to spread products around and tap them in, and tapping is how I gauge how absorbed the product is into my skin. But I still require something smooth to spread the product around to begin with. I'm definitely looking forward to trying these out.
Same. Also my skin is so sensitive that I think a build up of bacteria really plays havoc with my skin ( I learned this from being too lazy to cleanse my brushes often enough and using not just scrubbed hands to scoop out skincare products) so I have wanted something like this for scooping out moisturiser that can be really disinfected/steamed after use (I don’t like using disposable for the sake of the planet). I have to scrub everything that touches my skin much more often than the average recommendations. I have wanted something like this for a while so I will be getting it if I can. Super sensitive skin sucks. Growing up I could only use rose water to cleanse my face because at times even water from the tap caused problems! Distilled water was fine though.
Tnx for saving me money! In addition , I would add that this spatula application doesn't work with mature skin. In addition, I do not understand why the spatula should be stored in case AND in the bag. Honestly, how many people keep the tools in those bags? And how many people store "just in a case of smth" and trash them after a couple of yrs.
Hello 🌟🤍!! I would like to ask you the shade of your cushion foundation since I think we have similar skin colour and I LOVE the result you are getting!! Thank you 😊 🙏
lmao when i first heard about this i really wanna test it out but since im an art student and ran out of money very frequently, i couldn’t even get the knockoff version of the spatula so i use the one for paint instead lol
Oooo...These are smart.. I never thought the spatula made much diff tho but it could've been nice if he had put 2in1 lil spoon and a gua sha together for skincare routine... I like Ham Kyungsik, he's got great hair :)
