    I always thought it was cool when graphics card manufacturers put out tech demos with their graphics cards. Ruby was the ATi mascot and in a lot of their tech demos.

      I still use/collect/tinker with old pc's and the GPUs of late 90s / early 2000s still look the best imo. It was much cooler to see all those logo's and pictures on the GPUs then what we have now. Even the single slot cards looked great and they were very much in use until the 9xxx series from NVidia (9600GT and such) or the ATI 9000 series.

    i used to play gta san andreas with 8500Le 64mb (and athlon XP), it ran perfectly at the 24fps limit the game has, double without

    OMG the memories come flooding back! this and there was one of Lava too that came later? Man techdemo's are a lost art form, I used to, and still do absolutely adore them.
    Sometimes when i have guests I set up my PC to render a looped techdemo for them to enjoy as they walk past, a go to for many years (also as a screensaver) is nvidia's Geoforms :)

    By sheer luck, I managed to get this card. And now, I got the parts to build the ultimate PC of the year 2001

      I bought one for £11.50 three years ago. Seems the prices have gone up a lot since! What games are you intending to play with your ultimate 2001 PC? What are the full specs you have?

    • @RetroAmateur1989
      @RetroAmateur1989 4 месяца назад

      @@RetroPcCupboard that is dirt cheap even for when you bought it. I got it for 50 euros, which is still quite a low price for it. Even the inferior 8500LE goes for more than that. In any case, the build I'm talking about involves this card and an Athlon 1800, and I'm still researching about what amount of ram would be overkill for the time, but still period correct.

    • @RetroPcCupboard
      @RetroPcCupboard 4 месяца назад +1

      @routhoula Nice. Good luck with it. My only period correct build currently is my 1997 Pentium 233Mhz MMX, Voodoo 1, Riva 128, 64Mb RAM DOS / Win95 time machine. My Win98 and WinXP machines are extremely overkill and not period correct (and therefore some games do not like them). I did have a 2003/2004 build with Athlon XP 3200+ and Geforce 6000 series. But I sold the motherboard/CPU and only have GPU now. I didn't want to deal with the bulging capacitors and potential 5V rail issues after the original PSU died.

    Wow, didn't know these demos existed. I'm pretty sure I have a 7500 all-in-wonder laying around somewhere. How does that compare to the 8500? Kind makes me want to pull it out and mess around with it.
