This is a complete, unbiased unboxing, disassembly, inspection and review on the maxpeedingrods GT3582 turbo.
Does the 229$ cad cost reflect the quality of the unit?
For the most part it’s not a bad turbo for the price, but there are a couple things they make me a little nervous.
Number one, there were a couple small nicks on the compressor wheel that I noticed after filming, but that won’t be a huge deal, but it would be nice for the inspector to pick up on it and not allow it to pass.
Number two, there is a small amount of play in the turbo shaft, around 1/8”. I have since contacted the seller and waiting for a response on this issue.

I'm a machine tool fitter I work with bearing and bronze bushes daily, from little .5" to 12", for those that don't know journal bearings are are phosphor bronze bushes they aren't brass as some think, they need that play for clearance for oil to lube them, theory is when spinning the shaft will float on the oil and find its center and why balancing the turbo is so important if the shaft runs on the bearing it will wear it quickly so no clearance it will kill the bushes and shaft, the only turbo that shouldn't have play is a ball bearing but they require restrictor as too much oil will kill the bearings
Awesome info! I didn’t know about the two types of bushings. Thanks a lot
Love getting notifications for this channel
Awesome :) this one’s a little different but I was excited to share it
just wanted to say good shit on growing the channel!! thanks for posting this. just what i was looking for.
I appreciate it!
That side to side play you saw there will tighten up once you have oil going into it.
Awesome, thanks
Barry, in case you were wondering, the Mike Rogers messaging you here is the same one that messages you on Facebook lol
Ohh hahaha I never put that together 🤣
precisely what i did with my china turbo from 2011. take it apart and do my own QA deburred a couple of casting dags and it hasnt skipped a beat since. still running it now.
That’s good to hear!
😮
I'm glad you did a review on their products... I've been shopping on the innerwebs
Right on man. As a follow up, I’ve had them on the truck now all summer with zero issues. No smoking or worn parts or anything. I’m on 4 psi right now, but I’ll be turning it up to 10-12 psi soon, if there’s any issues I’ll have videos on it
@@StationroadRatrods still no issues?
@whatta No issues at all! I drive the truck every possible moment and they work awesome. No smoke, leaks or noise only that sweet whistle
@@StationroadRatrods thanks a heap! Hopefully soon I'll have a pair mounted up to an LS.
@whatta I hopefully sooner than later!
It can be dangerous though, you’re like
“Just one more psi” and kaboom
I had one of these brand new from day one that smoked loads - made me think it was my engine, but indeed upon dissasembly of the turbo the oil was pouring into the exhaust housing from the shaft lol. I even tried a restrictor etc but kept having issues. My drain was pretty good too.
Have you ran yours yet? Im tempted to try another ( as they are many times cheaper than alternatives )
That’s wild.
I’ve actually had two of these on all summer on my V8 with zero issues. I have a -6 oil feed to both.
50 psi oil pressure at idle and around 90-95 psi at WOT and no restrictor
The only issue I had were the oil lines I used were leaking, but that didn’t really have anything to do with the turbos themselves
shaft play will tighten up with oil pressure and heat. all your dump truck turbos were probably ball bearing not journal?
Ahh perfect! I have only had worn out journal bearing turbos so they’ve all had play. I haven’t had a new turbo before though so I didn’t know if it was normal haha
Where did you get your pac 1218’s I’m looking to buy a set.
Jorge got those for me, he got them from Michigan motorsports! They shipped in no time
Do you know what the thread pitch for the coolant ports are? I’m trying to figure out what fitting to put in them to work with my AN lines
They’re fucky, the thread is M14x1.5
@@StationroadRatrods okay does do you know what AN that converts to?
@@StationroadRatrods thank you for your help! I found 14x1.5 6an adapter. Thanks again!
Sorry about the late reply, you should be able to find any size adapter. -6 is fine, it’s 3/8” ID
I’m gonna see if I can find a -8 which would be 1/2” hose
Do you happen to know the thread pitch and such for the 4 bolt exhaust outlet. Also I got this because the 4 bolt was supposed to bolt up to my srt4 but it seems my 02 housing is a smaller 4 bolt than what this turbo came with.
I just bought two with the billet wheels for a twin turbo LS 5.3 build I'm doing.
You’re going to love it. I had two of these on a destroked 6 litre and it was an animal!
@@StationroadRatrods I'm super hyped man! It's going into a Cadillac ctsv my buddy got for cheap. Just got it stripped and the transmission pulled this week. Hopefully taking the 5.3 we to the machine shop this week go have them go over the block and gap the rings. I have to build some custom manifolds to make it fit in the engine bay but luckily I'm a tig welder lol.
@clutchboi4038 man I’m hyped for you, V’s are sick! I hope you guys have a blast
Any HELP, PLEASE on this turbo . I have it fitted installed properly and professionally. To my honda k20a engine. Lots of Smoke is coming out from it at opposite side inlet. When stationary, after a short drive.
Looks bad , and embarrassing. Oil seal leak i guess, not sure. This is my 1st turbo ever. Puffs of smoke out exhaust after short time of full boost, after burn
I’ve heard of issues with the seals from factory, message Amazon or maxpeedingrods and ask for a replacement. Did this happen right out of the box?
@@StationroadRatrods i bought the car from a previous owner. And paid alot for it. So am really concerned. Dont know if I should buy another as its made to fit where it is behind the engine block, and map tuned for it
I would suggest buying another one, you’ll burn a lot of oil and those civics don’t have a lot, don’t wanna cook your engine. They’re only 230 Canadian so they’re super cheap and you could have it changed in a couple hours as the fab work is already done, it’ll just be a replacement
Dont know if you have resolved problem but could it be an oil outlet restriction problem? Some have to resort to pumping oil back to engin eif it not mounted high enough or too small / long of return line. Just my 2 cents.
By the sounds of it he got a car with a worn out turbo but never heart from him after
🇨🇦 new sub 🇨🇦
I appreciate it 🙂 hope you enjoy
Bald Eagles 🦅 hell yeah 🇺🇸 finish it off with a Murica!
Dang…. go team all of us!…. New turbski for you on us 😎.
Also you should make a profile for GETTR. Have to download the app. It’s a free speech platform to rival the twitter. Lmao I got banned on FB and I follow you there also 😅
Hahaa hell yeah brother!
You guys are 100% to credit for how well the channel is going so far, and I wanna put every cent that I can back into it!
I’ve only just heard about that app but have no idea what it is. To be honest, I don’t even know what twitter is all about 🤣
Add me as a friend on Facebook if you like dude! And if you’re not on the Facebook group it’s “station road rat rods RUclips” lots of good guys and girls on there 🤘 I’d search your name but I’d say I would have to try again.
Haha, I know I’m dumb
I feel smaller channel make better content. Just my 2 cents.
I love smaller channels myself, ones who aren’t taken over by big sponsorships, etc.
That shaft play seems excessive. Some will work out when it's hot and oiled up, but I'd expect half that or less. Have you measured the runout? Probably a good idea to do that before you call Maxpeedingrods.
Never had a good feeling about quality from that company. After all, they were too cheap to print the first S. :p
That’s kind of what I thought. I’ll take a measurement tomorrow and when they write me back again, I’ll have some ammo.
From what I can tell by “feel” it’s less than 1/8” but I’d like to have an actual number
They’re super China, but at the moment I’m on a super China budget so imma roll with it for now hahaa.
baby turbo lol. its not THAT small haha
All of the 80mm+ guys give me a hard time for it 🤣
That's a lot of movement.......omg. not correct
I just read your name and ufology must be a rewarding but frustrating study huh?
As far as I understand, journal bearing turbos like this need shaft clearance so it can float on a film of oil, though I don’t know how much clearance is too much.
I had two of these turbos on my truck all last summer with zero issues, if that counts for anything
Im actually super tempted to get their street series 3076 because at 1/3 - 1/4 thr cost of a garret it steems like a dsmn steal if its a decent condition unit that wont nade itself.
I’ve had two of them on the truck for a full summer with no issues at all, if they shit the bed I’ll have videos up on that too
