  • After a 7-year hiatus, the Honda Civic is back with a bang. We came away pretty impressed by it in our first drive, but now Renuka Kirpalani has lined it up against our previous segment favourite, the Skoda Octavia, to see just how good it is.

FB Kensar HD Skoda is offering a 4 year warranty that covers the DSG and their after sales service has improved by leaps and bounds. I had the old Laura and now I'm using an Octavia 1.8 L&K for the last year and it's cheaper to maintain than most of its competitors. Stop living in 2008.

I was very much confused whether to go for octavia or civic, But finally settled for civic. Both cars have their own pros and cons and its upto individual to decide which car to buy. I chose civic coz of its stunning looks, mileage, handling, low maintenance and reputation of Honda cars. It easily gives 14+ and 20+ mileage in city and highway respectively( i have tested myself driving from hyderabad to bangalore). Im very much impressed with ground clearance, can tackle big breakers easily. Cons - infotainment system could have been better, slightly overpriced 2-3 lakhs cheaper could have been game changer for Honda. Skoda octavia L & K 32 lakhs on road Pros- infotainment system, DSG gear box shifts are as smooth as butter , interior fit and finish its simple but neat, powerful engine. Cons- Overpriced(L&K version), outdated side and back looks common skoda you need to revise exteriors majorly, service issues, high maintenance esp after 3-4 years, poor resale value. So overall both cars are good. Im big fan of both civic and octavia. Its upto you to chose which one to go for. Any more info if u need on both cars leave msg in comment section

Octavia's interior exhibits sheer class, I don't think Civic comes even close in that aspect!

Super review! The Octavia Style is far far superior to the Civic. After taking a look at the new Civic I would never part with my 2010 model V AT. The hydraulic steering, the conventional auto and the roomy inside is better than the new version. The new Civic interior feels claustrophobic in comparison. Honda should have got in the 2 litre engine.
    Keep the good content flowing.
    Cheers

German cars claim fuel efficiency based on worst conditions, japanese on best conditions. DSG gearbox is the reason for that fuel economy.

The design of civic may look stunning at first instance but may fade up with time .Octavia on the other hand is more subtle in design with a touch of sophistication . Same is the story on the inside where civic looks more cluttered .Further driving civic does not instill much confidence whereas you feel more secure in Octavia.

    More premium looking

Honda should've introduced a turbocharged VTEC engine to Civic, but Indian Honda cars only have I-VTEC ones, or they should've introduced Civic RS. But hey, did you try the diesel ones???

Skoda octavia for sure in petrol, just because of CVT in civic which limits that punch of ivtec. But if high maintenance is an issue for you, civic is best option with low maintenance, highly reliable and long lasting engine :)

Having owned civic in '09, superb in '16 I think I can give my 2 cents on it. Civic was gem of a car back then, 140hp and it only cost around 13 lacs on road. I think Honda has really got its pricing wrong. Civic ain't a 23 lac on road vehicle imo.
Octavia though looks great but I remember superb was so expensive when it came to services that one really start missing on Honda's/Toyota's. I think most of the European manufacturers are pathetic with after sale services as they rip your pocket apart

Please do share the After Sales Service experience with both these brands. Skoda do have unmatchable build and ride quality compared to Hyundai's and Honda's but they give real nightmares to its owners in ASS. They are only left with 2 Service Centres in cities like New Delhi. I assume they will soon wrap up their solo operations in India like Chevi and Ford considering their Sales Figures and especially pathetic After Sales Service.

Sir, I do agree that Honda Civic is Underpowered and its costlier, But you cannot say that Honda is fooling. I do own a 2017 City, which is a great car. The engine is quite powerful revvy and refined. Honda could not introduce powerful turbocharged VTEC engines due to some problem in India.
