You're right. I seen them live and Dustin has a very impressive vocal range. This was mixed poorly.
Something definitely went very wrong with this performance, and it wasn't just Dustin... They're usually much better live
Who ever mixed this needs to be fired. I literally saw them 2 weeks ago and they sound 10x better live at the Underground in CLT.

Probably an unpaid intern, I also suspect Dustin was sick as shit during this performance. Their live performances now are god tier.

You know adding the spacesuits really does add alot to the stage presents and the theme of starset. I'm glad they did that for a while
Performance aside, literally every noticeable audio mistake was made
-Guitars are scooped to the point of inaudibility
-Bass is pretty much the same story
-The drums sound scooped as well, I mean, what’s with the snare?
-Vocals just sound like they made sure it was the loudest and that’s it, plus the mic switch has volume changes, listen, it’s there!
-Orchestral stuff is alright, but kind of boxed

Pretty much little to no mid range is in this, admittedly there’s not much mid range on the records either, but it was impressive to see the layers come together, ‘cause they worked! Here? Not so much. It’s like each instrument was being downplayed (haha puns), just so Dustin’s vocals would shine. There’s more than just Orchestral members and Dustin people!!!
(Before anybody mentions the performance, we already know, but there were more mistakes than just Dustin’s vocals)

This doesn't represent Dustin's amazing vocal performance. Idk what happened but Dustin looks tired and unprepared still tried his best. Check out his or the band's live performance in general during Express LIVE! on Promowest TV. You will be amazed!

They've been improving alot since their first album..there are tons of other videos on RUclips where their live videos are amazing, yet here the sound mixing is terrible so it gives a terrible performance too.

Dustin does need vocal lessons, they've been improving though, like all other bands or singers. It's a normal thing. But he still needs a couch
I think it's more because he's done a few shows before this and all the screaming he does is getting to his vocal cords.

As a person who don't know this song. But i listen to starset. I can say that he sounds good live. But the fact that they studio too perfect, and people expect them to be same perfect live is the reason why live performances and are just underrated. But i swear, i dont know this song and it sounded so good to me.

AGREED! I've seen them 3 times so far, along with VIP acoustic performances and by far this is the worst I've ever heard them sound. I know that Dustin says he gets nervous when he knows he's going to be on TV, but something doesn't seem to make sense, how the other regular shows sound amazing, but this one is crap.

Lmao idk what you're talking about, after watching Avenged Sevenfold's performance it appears they put out a solid performance. This isn't so solid. I enjoy Starset a lot, but it's not secret especially after watching a ton of live videos that Dustins voice can be very hit and miss. Sometimes he sounds perfect and hits every note, and a lot of other times he starts loosing his voice and doesn't sound too great. I will say though that the mixing is definitely terrible on here.

+SameDoesStuff I think A7X and I Prevail were the only two that sounded like they had a proper mix, everyone else ranged from sounding off to their performance completely trashed by bad mixes.

Well they're extremely tired due to lots of touring. Plus it's probably hard for the singer to sing a bit higher due to his normal voice being lower.
