If you put like that than undertale would be a clone. People sometimes fell in love with a game and truly want to make something based on the things they love but with their own spin. other times someone with money points at a thing that SELLS and says DO IT LIKE THAT BUT NOT SIMILAR ENOUGH TO BE SUED!
Anyone who likes the beautiful artwork and style of these metal slug style games, check out In The Hunt. Although that game is a submarine style vehicle as the protag, the game delivers in dystopian, diesel punk artwork. The game is renowned for one of the best bosses ever. A gigantic Jason and the Argonauts style statue climbing after you from the depths of the abyss.
It might be very similar to metal slug but it manages to find it's own soul by placing some really unique mechanics on top of a tried and true formula, really really good game
You gotta admit, even though this does indeed have the same game mechanics as Metal Slug, this is still by far a bad ass game. I appreciate the upload dude.
I also just noticed. Every boss has a name that coincides with the relic you find in its stage, and the evil body-part that's corrupting the critter that turned into the boss. Big CLAW, Evil EYE, Twin HORN, Iron TOOTH, Demon HEART.
Just found this gem while reading about another run an gun..I mean errr swim and gun (Dolphin Blue amazing Atomiswave game -get Demul) and of course when playing Demon Front you can't help but think of Metal Slug, but being inspired by probably the greatest run and gun series of all time is not a bad thing. This game like Metal Slug features great animations and detailed art work. Really puts most of these more modern games that try for the "retro" look to shame, you know the ones that think pixel/2d art is never more detailed than an old time nes cartridge. ./Rant Over There are differences between this and Metal Slug though, significant enough that I would not call this a MS Clone. First off this doesn't have vehicles which all Metal Slugs have in abundance. Second this adds some pretty big twist to standard formula, there is the charged shot that launches your animal friend against the opponent. You can also chose a shield which will wear down over time. The catch is if you pull the shield you loos your charged shot, in this way it adds a depth of strategy ; protection of fie power. Round that out with the ability to hover and you can see this is not a Metal Slug clone more of a inspiration. IF your like me and love old and rare arade beat em ups and run and gun be sure to check out these lesser known titles: Dolphin Blue - Mentioned above Battle circuit - Capcom's last 2d beat em up in the arcades ever, loads of fun with a sci fi plot and super powers. If you read this and know of any other lesser known bet em ups or run and gun, please fill free to reply with a reccomendation
Colin Harvey Battle Circuit is now officially available to play in the US thanks to the release of Capcom Beat 'em Up Bundle for the Xbox One, PS4, Switch and PC.
Demon front es un juegazo, para mí es el sucesor de metal slug. Lo que más se destaca del juego es el diseño gráfico que se ve increíble y es un título muy disfrutable.
More than a decade ago there was a cabinet with this game in a short-lived arcade that existed near my house. I was completely amazed by this game, but could only finally run it through an emulator post-2010 (IIRC) because it wasn't working on MAME back then. Best Metal Slug clone EVER!
MEtal Slug clone yes, but a damn good stuff from what I'm seeing! It looks very well crafted with good ideas (that combo system is interesting!) and amazing graphics up to MS level I think! Really nice stuff, should find a way to play that!
The similarities in style with metal slug are astonishing, and it's ironical considering metal slug was made by ex-IREM employees and many aspects of Gunforce 2/Geo Storm are used on the metal slug series. And let's be honest, the scenery is ten thousand times better than the N64-esque scenery they used on atomiswave.
Always loved this metal slug clone. It was really weird to see SNK and IGS working on the same hardware when they both made games for the atomiswave. I thought that was gonna be a promising piece of hardware but they both dropped it so quickly even though I think it has some fucking just amazing titles for it.
Holy shit this game runs so smooth in mame, not even mslug feels this smooth on my gaming rig. Really smooth animations, great sound effects/music. A worthy "clone" if I ever saw one. I'm amazed it took me so long to discover this game through all the recommended lists I've scoured on the internet.
Just a question... does the final boss "change" if you used a different character? Here, he seems to use Jake's pet (fire-based) to become "Flame"... so... yeah?
All this discussion in the comments just made me wish for a Metal Slug / Demon Front Crossover. It would be the craziest and coolest thing since Battletoads X Double Dragon XD
it has metal slug one hit and ur dead rule but it also has the little creatures that get more powerful by close range knife attacks and long range gon attacks.
It is a rip-off, yeah we get it. Actually it is not as bad as one would think. The only problem I have with this game is the sound design. It is most noticeable with the grenade launcher, when the 4 little bombs explode. Because they explode most of the tiome at the same time you get a huge "BREAAOUNG" as an explosion sound because the sound of the explosions overlap themself.
I totally agree. And maybe they just couldn't get permission to make their own Metal Slug? Even non-profit fan-made games get f**ed sometimes by "official" companies (that happened to the guys who made a very nice game in the Bare Knuckle series, and got sued to their asses by SEGA). Just conjecturing, though.
"We need a game that's exactly like Metal Slug, yet exactly different!"
"Boss, that doesn't make sense."
"Just... just get it done."
"Fine."
Don't care if a game is a clone of another game or not. If it's fun, I play...
You can take inspiration from a game to make your own, but there is a line between inspiration and theft.
If you put like that than undertale would be a clone. People sometimes fell in love with a game and truly want to make something based on the things they love but with their own spin. other times someone with money points at a thing that SELLS and says DO IT LIKE THAT BUT NOT SIMILAR ENOUGH TO BE SUED!
this game deserves to be on Steam/Playstation Network etc

It's no surprise that you like that game's style - It was developed by Irem who's dev team later became SNK that created Metal Slug. :)
I don't care if the game were being called "clone" in a pejorative way, I believe there should be more games in this stunning aesthetic!
It might be very similar to metal slug but it manages to find it's own soul by placing some really unique mechanics on top of a tried and true formula, really really good game
Better than metal slug for real
Yes, it's a clone. But at least they actually put in the effort to be a *_good_* clone and to add new mechanics.
I. Other words better than the original
Is a Metal Slug clone but is fun!
You gotta admit, even though this does indeed have the same game mechanics as Metal Slug, this is still by far a bad ass game. I appreciate the upload dude.
this game is beautiful
Amazing. This just shows how the metal slug "genre" could be expanded if you add life, customization and more controls.
I also just noticed. Every boss has a name that coincides with the relic you find in its stage, and the evil body-part that's corrupting the critter that turned into the boss. Big CLAW, Evil EYE, Twin HORN, Iron TOOTH, Demon HEART.

Colin Harvey thx from italy

Say what you will about the clone aspect, the level up system is interesting.
Demon front es un juegazo, para mí es el sucesor de metal slug. Lo que más se destaca del juego es el diseño gráfico que se ve increíble y es un título muy disfrutable.
I am more intrigued by the beautiful art, just amazing.
Considering the quality of the visuals I'm sure they could have come up with more inspiring stage names :D

Really nice stuff, should find a way to play that!
To hell with the Metal Slug series. This game looks way more awesome. Love all the familiars that fight alongside you.
Nice graphics and animations. Variety of moves and powerups makes this game really fun to play. The combo meter looks pointless but whatever. 9/10
It's all about score and flexing baybeh
Love your play, you understand the game. Keep that combo metre alive and collect those Keys
Nothing wrong with a ripoff when it's a good one and this is rather excellent quality title.
Many clear differences in gameplay, but it's virtually identical to the art style and level design of Metal Slug
aahhh.. ye old arcade of me childhood
This is a rare clone that needs a sequel...
The similarities in style with metal slug are astonishing, and it's ironical considering metal slug was made by ex-IREM employees and many aspects of Gunforce 2/Geo Storm are used on the metal slug series.

Eh I liked metal slug 6's backgrounds. Although this game gives most metal slug titles a run for their money, its better than X
looks awesome!
They are very direct with the level names.
Metal Slug-WHAT?? Wow, this game is beautiful and pretty varied too!
It IS kind of Metal Slug...but then, for people who like Metal Slug, that should hardly be a downside. :p
Never heard of this game until today.
Always loved this metal slug clone. It was really weird to see SNK and IGS working on the same hardware when they both made games for the atomiswave. thanks cubex for showing me a game that i didn't had on the arcade
Awesome metal slug clone!
Never seen this game before but it looks like fun as heck
It's looks like a game from the 90s. But was released in 2002.
All right!
Weighted Automatic Rifle!
Missile Blastor!
Boom stick!
Projected light armament!
Go ahead, person!
We will rendezvous at the underworld
Twat
this game looks really fun for it being a metal slug clone
Despite being a clone or a ripoff of Metal Slug, this looks wonderful! The colors, animation, art, pixels, gameplay... It's wonderful. :)
They're playing Tom Sawyer during the Twin Horn boss fight. Rush rules!
What emulator you play this game ?
This looks way nicer than Metal Slug. Would love to play this! Gonna search for it.
A Metal Slug clone?
Any idea who exactly led the art on this game? because it's truly beautiful
probably who have ever worked on metal slug project...Hope helped
@@tonmasboy I dont think that's true. This game was made in Taiwan not Japan like Metal Slug.
@@cannonfodder4000 You mean China

did you get 2player to work?
The level 3 boss is like a suped-up Sir Killalot
May I also add, HaipaYazoo, that you can't sue someone for using the same animation style.
what emulator are you using to run this
i have a retro pie emulation station setup
To their credit, the quality of the ripoff isn't too bad. It could have been much worse: like how every shooter today wants to be Call of Duty.
O cara joga muito, olha a quantidade de combo
Looks like fun.
Just a question... does the final boss "change" if you used a different character? Here, he seems to use Jake's pet (fire-based) to become "Flame"... so... yeah?
Thanks! I've seen Freeze and... it looks like a major pain, yes
Where can I get the proper bios to run it in FBA on PSP?
How am I only finding out about this game?
I like the character mouth movement ^.^
This is totally not metal slug. Nope. Definitely not.
Where I find this rom?? Do you have the link?
good copy of Metal Slug :D
All this discussion in the comments just made me wish for a Metal Slug / Demon Front Crossover. It would be the craziest and coolest thing since Battletoads X Double Dragon XD
Please tell us wich emulator did you use.
this game is like a precursor to metal slug if set in the past.
Would love for them to make this a series. This is just as worthy of it as the Metal Slug it ripped off. China did some things right with this one.
what version of mame runs this?
i dont understand how he gets the first key , it doesnt seem to appear for me :c
Mmmm,no fire scroll...?
Nuh-uh, you we're supposed to say "Heavy Machine Gun.
Considering that SNK pumped out oodles of Metal Slug variations themselves, I don't see the harm in a little copycatting.
HORY SHET if this game was out for the PS3 I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Do you have the link of this emulador Plus rom???
My my favourite game
Yeah Homage of SNK and Playmore's Metal Slug Video Game Style
Do you have the emulator to play?
awesome game
it has metal slug one hit and ur dead rule but it also has the little creatures that get more powerful by close range knife attacks and long range gon attacks.
which system is this?
Debo admitirlo, iba muy mamon cuando lo jugué pero francamente me gusto,me gusta el hecho de que siendo un mundo medieval no sé siente asi
LOl, obvious clone but it still looks really nice.
This is pretty similar to Metal slug...and also the summons are similar to the ones in Three Wonders: Midnight Wanderers, from Capcom
It is a rip-off, yeah we get it. Actually it is not as bad as one would think. The only problem I have with this game is the sound design. It is most noticeable with the grenade launcher, when the 4 little bombs explode. I think the artwork is a lot cooler than Metal Slug, though
Agreed
not the original game, but still good, fun to play
Totally agree.
Where can I get this game?
Since there is no metal slug 8, this would be a alternativ i would play
Hmmm... I was expecting that final boss to have several forms. That was kind of a letdown.
Why not? Capcom sued Data East for making a SF2 clone.
Slash a boulder, and it'll explode. Who writes this stuff?!
Love this game. I don't care if it is a clone of Metal Slug. I still like it.
You can't sue someone for using the same game mechanics.
Heavy Machine Gun !!...wait, this isn't Metal Slug?
This better because metal slug is LGBTQ game
I like it better than Metal Slug
Yup
A pretty good meta slug clone i must say i is that on mame?
This looks like Metal Slug, but with its own little twists.
Metal Slug Clone. But you know what they say, Imitation is the greatest form of Flattery!
For a Metal slug clone it ain't half bad!!
Those numbers at the end were so high they lost all meaning.
I totally agree. And maybe they just couldn't get permission to make their own Metal Slug? Metal Slug + Castlevania 2 = Demon Front
