“In our world, almost all of our songs start out ‘acoustic,’ with quiet beginnings at the kitchen table on an acoustic guitar. In recording ‘An Acoustic Companion’ we really enjoyed stripping a handful of our songs back down to their roots and we hope folks will enjoy getting an earful of these songs as they originally came into being. From the jump, ‘Bad Spell’ was intended to be a big, bad, swaggy rock song, but we’ve found that there’s nothing more creatively freeing than challenging and burning down one’s own preconceived notions. We did just that in re-envisioning the arrangement for ‘Bad Spell’ and letting it bloom into new life.”

@@smoothsugardevil Tyler is their recording engineer that's different. He tagged the people involved in his instagram post. It's the same team that worked on Blood Harmony.
This version of Bad Spell is 100% pure blues honey. 😻 Love the dramatic, soulful vocals that invoke so much feeling. ❤ Love the deeply blue mood setting Dobro instrumental with so much feeling as well. ❤ This is where the blues not only lives but thrives. 👍👍👍👍👍

They have a wealth of great songs in their catalog, but Bad Spell is special. Outstanding composition. The original is classic, but this version captures the spirit of the lyrics beautifully. It’s haunting

just when you think you know where these two are going, i.e. more to the blues rock end of things, they strip it back do this soulful intense acoustic version. (I do like the way the production builds towards the end)

That is possibly the best acoustic rework I've ever heard. So often artists release an acoustic version and it's just the same as the electric but with acoustic guitars. Not you. The delivery, the vocals, everything was reworked and it was brilliant! Love it. Really appreciate your musical artistry.

Fantastic, Stupendous, 4 out of 4 stars, better than the electric version....I always think how any song I hear would be successful in 1970 and this version definitely would be welcome alongside any from that era.

This song reminds me - melodywise - of those worksongs used to give rhythm to prisoners breaking rocks/stones, etc. Like in the movie O Brother, where art thou. The sheer talent put into this kicks off the ceiling so to speak. It's not just the mood, but also the voice(s), the instrument, the acousticness, the video, the genre, so everything. Anyway, kudos.
You two are so talented! It's obvious that you have worked really hard over years to hone your craft. I'm truly impressed at how easy you make it look (and I know it isn't easy to craft songs like this, much less perform them so well!). I'm going to your website now to see if there's anything from your catalog that I don't already own.

This is so great! I love the hard driving rock and blues sound you normally do but this stripped back version really showcases the fantastic writing, music, and vocals without the distortion of the rock version. Can't wait to hear the full EP!!!
Oh wow, this song has given me such a range of emotions. It started out with elation, such a a beautifil riff but then took me into despair and heartache. Proper blues, this, great playing ladies.

Very different from previous albums. Their voices at their best, blend in perfect harmonies, taking on additional amplitude, depth and richness. The guitars are melting perfectly. Beautiful arrangements, sounds and production! A new signature, overwhelming touching ep album! Your talent is exploding in this ep = this is my humble opinion of a music passionate lover.
Brilliant, definitely one of the best things LP have done recently. So atmospheric and Rebecca certainly has a voice and a half. Megan is of course pure gold. I wonder what they would have sounded like now if sister Jessica had stayed with them ?.

Saw them live in Munich yesterday and it was such an awesome show, so much energy and passion and the live versions were like 1000x better than the studio recordings.
Beautiful and haunting melodies. It's a cool take on the song. Doesn't change the fact that Bad Spell live and electric is one of their very best of all time. I guess down deep I'm still just a old rocker.
