Learning these sentence patterns can help you express better in Mandarin.
This video includes not only patterns but also some examples and practice (a dialogue).
For me, learning a language is not about how many vocab words you know, it is about whether you know how to use the vocabulary you’ve learned!
Therefore I always give examples, I hope this helps! :)
    The timecode of five patterns:
00:24 (1) 看起來 It seems like
    01:37 (2) 如果......可以嗎? Is it okay if...?
03:03 (3) 這就是為什麼 This is why
04:24 (4) 忘記跟你說 I forgot to tell you
    06:17 (5) 我的意思是 I mean
The simplified Chinese of the dialogue:
A: 我们想一下明天要去哪里。 Let’s think about where we should go tomorrow.
B: 我都可以 Anything is fine with me.
A: 如果去游泳可以吗? Is it okay if we go swimming?
B: 忘记跟你说我其实不喜欢游泳 I forgot to tell you that I actually don't really like swimming
A: 那...如果去爬山可以吗? Then… Is it okay if we go hiking?
    B: 我也不喜欢爬山。I don’t like hiking either.
A: 看起来你只想待在家 It seems like you simply want to stay at home.
B: 我想出门啊!I want to go out!
A: 那你要不要去海边。 Then do you want to go to the beach?
    B: 太热了!It’s too hot!
A: 嗯......这就是为什么大家都不喜欢约你出去!Em...This is why people don’t like to ask you to hang out!
B: 你怎么可以这样说! How could you say that!
A: 我的意思是说你总是抱怨!I mean to say that you complain all the time!

I just want to say that you are such a good teacher. You always explain everything so thoroughly and break everything down. I just discovered you, but have been watching your videos. The pronunciation explanation for the difficult sounds in the other videos were also explained so well. I have always felt like Taiwanese accent feels more natural to me compare to the mainland accent, but it’s been difficult to learn because there isn’t too many online resources that teaches Taiwanese mandarin. Thank you for taking the time to make all these videos to help the people that are interested in the language get a chance to learn it.

This is one of my favorite lessons! At the end where you twice showed the dialogue between you and your “clone”, I really appreciated your showing the 繁體字 version first, then the pinyin and translation. I found this particularly useful and effective. It reinforced the learning on multiple levels! 非常感謝

Your lessons are outstanding. I would like to suggest that from now on, your grammar lessons should correspond to HSK levels or TOCFL levels. This will make it more organized for the purpose of studying in a logical and progressive manner. It would also make the lessons more organized for you as a teacher as well. Thanks!

Loved the dialogue at the end! I know the vocabulary that was used was very simple but still I feel a little proud of myself for being able to understand everything without looking at the simplified subtitles or the translation. Because it was a little fast for me, there were a few words I didn't hear clearly or didn't immediately recognize but I was still able to understand the sentence from the general context and from the tone of the "character" speaking.

The last sentence's intonation「我的意思是說妳總是抱怨」is very interesting, the way you close the mouth which contributes to a more vibrant initials (consonants), the rise in intonation (whether it is in annoyance or excitement) and the slight rising in shoulders and neck contraction, I have also heard this same intonation and seen the same body language from maomaotv. It's super interesting, maybe you could do a video (or a series) on taiwanese intonation and accent. xD

As I am learning Mandarin from Taiwan, it is very convenient for me to see sentences in Traditional characters, it's way easier for me to only switch PinYin to Zhuyin than to switch both the characters and Pinyin. Moreover, the dialogue, in the end, gave us some sense of how to use these sentences, it was very smooth

    Hi Grace!
I started studying Mandarin Chinese last year, but not full time until recently. When I started studying, the pronunciation part was the easiest to me, but I kind of forgot to study grammar (or put it aside at the time) in the beginning and it's now one of the most difficult parts for me, so I was wondering if you have any tips on studying grammar?
Edit: I know a lot of words but sometimes I just don't know how to use them and whenever I fail to make a sentence I just think that I'm really bad.
