we need more people with accents in hollywood!!!! everyone sounds the damn same and it's awful. regional accents are beautiful. they're like music. he's free to make his own choices about it for his career, but for my part, i hope he sticks with it.

It’s so crazy that they said that about how he speaks because I love how he speaks in every interview. He’s unapologetic about who he is and where he’s from.
@Amber one of his worries about the way he speaks was that he would be cast in stereotypical roles like a latino gang member and he said he had some offers like that but he turned them down. Unfortunately Hollywood still typecasts us minorities.
@@xoxxobob61 Oh for sure! Even as well spoken as Cuba Gooding Jr. is he only received those types of scripts for years after he did “Boyz n the hood”. It was his breakout role but it definitely risked halting his career.

Anthony Ramos he is a down to earth person. He is a very humble guy I meet him at the beach a couple of weeks ago in Bklyn. No one spotted him out except for me my friend was like who's that..lol.. I said really you don't know who he is well he called him over and I said ain't you guy from Hamilton he said yes Anthony Ramos...lol..I told my friend you see that was him..We took a pic he was calling my name like he knew me for years. He was on Jetski at that beach with his friends. A wonderful friendly guy! I hope he stays humble I hope Hollywood doesn't change him. The funny thing too my daughter went to school with his fiance Jasmine very nice girl as well a actress herself and she use to spend nights at my house when they were in JHS. I told him that too.. he was like Word!!! Lol.. what a small world!! He will DEFINITELY go far with his personality!!!!

Just saw this last night and LOVED it.
This movie says it ALL !! From the Fred Astaire dance on the bdlg side to the play on the word 'prowerless' yet they light up the night....the dancing, the colorful outfits, the unique personalities....The Heights has it ALL 👾🌷💥😎😍
I am so happy he is getting the recognition he deserves.

Many Yankee fans actually at Yankee games used to tell me to watch In the Heights and I was like “I only saw the musical on Broadway years ago.” They told me the movie was just as good as the musical on Broadway. As soon as I watched the movie I became hooked not only on Usnavi but Ramos himself. Like I’m from Jersey but NY is like my second home and he brought that out completely. ❤ He’s so talented ❤
Anthony will also be starring in Transformers 7, he is talented for sure.

I saw it last night (Saturday) in a nearly deserted theater. About 12 people in a 150 seat theater. I recommend it. And I very rarely go to movie theaters. (Too many movies. Too much manufactured hype).
It will get lots of Oscar nominations. Great storylines (plural), acting, singing, dancing, visuals, representations of different Latin cultures (plural). Meaning the naming of Latina cultural/political heroines. The different foods from different countries on the stove.
My big problem was the length and the lack of dark skinned Latinos/Latinas. I'm not Latino but I DO KNOW that this aspect of the film was NOT accurate. Frankly, at a certain point all the light skinned Latinos/Latinas and no dark skinned folks as Leads (but for one) just seemed really weird. And irritating and insulting.
P.S. I LOVED the last few minutes. The ending shot especially. It almost made me cry.
I agree! Definitely needed more diversity in its casting! I watched it on HBO and my brother asked why all of them are light skinned. Also I’m thinking Olga Merediz gets an Oscar nod for her performance!

Why so few dark skinned folks? It's a legacy of European (in this case,
Spanish) colonialism and imperialism.
If you hate manufactured hype then why did you go see this movie in particular? They've been advertising it and appearing on every medium known to man for the past month at least. ENOUGH. It was a good movie, but the over-saturation of this movie probably contributed to it under-performing at the box office.
