Hi Laura, thanks so much for doing this collab with me today - happy decluttering to everyone in the New Year. 🥳

VHS tapes are actually more reliable than DVD. I just picked up a bunch of VHS. People are starting to buy them again because DVDs aren't holding up. We also try to be frugal with no streaming services so having all those movies on hand is nice. Our wedding tape is on VHS and years ago we transferred to DVD. The DVD is not working but our old VHS tape is still like new. Just thought I would share this.

I don’t feel guilt about getting rid of food at all. I put it in my compost pile so it will feed my garden and my garden feeds me 🤷🏼‍♀️
I’m getting so much better getting rid of things.
    Thank you for your list.

I use the few mismatched socks I have to place wool dryer balls in when they start unraveling. That way I can keep using them over and over.

Thanks for this. Please note if you have missing pieces from games spares are often sold on eBay. X

Agree and some children's game manufacturers also supply spare parts via their website (e.g. Orchard Toys here in the UK).

    Great tips.
If food is out of date just throw it away, as food banks wouldn’t want food that is out of date.

All great ideas...EXCEPT.....please, please take digital pics of the children's art, etc before tossing....Many years down the road it brings back fond memories both to the child and yourself. The child will feel so honored that you saved pics of his art...

I also photograph a LOT of things, but I think there's probably a happy medium to be reached. Yes, it can be sentimental + nice to look back on for you/them, but if there are hundreds + hundreds from each year (most often when they are young) that's too much to even look through digitally!
Maybe curate a stack to digitize + then just have a small selection to keep physical copies of? I've personally enjoyed looking back at pieces of my childhood art (in a memory box), but I in no way needed every single scrap I had ever drawn/glued/taped, etc. :)

I get REAL stuck here especially with the fact I have a creative lil one. I ask him to choose which ones we keep. I’m currently putting them in one of those photo albums with the sticky back pages and plastic-ish sheets as his Art Portfolio. I also take a picture and put it in a file labeled Kids Name Art Portfolio on the computer. I am learning to become more digital and how to clear the digital clutter. Because I am the bazillion email inbox person!!!!!

FYI: The best by date does not mean the food is expired. It refers to a date when the store can no longer sell it.

    • @Saforra99
      @Saforra99 Год назад

Agreed! In the viddeo it said "If it's out of date, if it's gone bad" -- those aren't necessarily the same thing :) Given, sometimes there is a certain freedom in saying "It says it's expired, so it has to go." I still tend to sniff/taste it, because *very often* things are good longer than their "sell by" date.
Yes, it can definitely be a wake-up call for us that we should eat/use it up soon *and* maybe not buy it again *or* not in such large quantities (or maybe freeze part so that there are just smaller amounts of the fresh product to use up?)
But either way, the sentiment is still true that we can have food clutter + decluttering it can help us know better what we have + use *and* give us more space to do the having + using ;)
      Thanks for the video!

I had to laugh at myself during this video. Spot on the past planners. I just found 3 years worth and thought , yeah, those will be fun to look at! After your video, they are going into recycling ❤️ So many easy , good hints!

Oh man do I feel guilty about getting rid of perfectly good things but I don’t want of need anymore .
Example I have supplements that might be just fine for another person (that I never opened ) but don’t know who to donate them to. What should I do?

    • @sarahgc434

Local shelters- if still sealed, call ahead and ask if they can use and would take them! Women and children shelters, men’s shelters, etc.
Also if still sealed list on a buy nothing group on social media or as another option, try listing them for free.

My kids LOVE wearing mismatched socks (which also means I don't have to mate them up)! I do agree with getting rid of socks that are too small, worn out, or a style/type of socks they no longer want.

We're sorting/clearing one attic box a week in 2023. I doubt we'll manage every week but it's a great way of making it manageable. I only do one box and I completely sort, put away, rebox if keeping and donate any items in that week. It doesn't result in any extra clutter in my house as I deal with the whole box, including recycling the box itself if it's not going to be reused. I'm playing the attic long game!!

A big one for our family is plastic food storage containers, especially reusable take-out and large yogurt containers. It’s always nice to have 2 or 3, but we tend to keep saving them “just in case” until there are dozens. Now I go through them regularly and keep the 3 I think we’re most likely to use. Everything else goes.

My brother actually made a great observation about some dry milk's best by date coming up... So instead of drinking stale dry milk, feeling bad to toss out saving for apocalypse, we've put it in rotation for pancake mixes etc. Most food last beyond the dates but it's not going to get tastier!

Great video! I have lots of mismatched socks to declutter lol
But I often can't find socks and buy more and when I gather laundry realize we have SO MANY!
I have sooo much digital decluttering to do too.

I kept past planners because I hated the thought of throwing out perfectly good paper. I used them as notebooks, but really, don't use that much paper in a year anyway. So out they go.
