I once watched an interview of a Didi (Chinese version of Uber) female driver at work. I was so shocked when She picked up a white collar office lady getting off work at 3am in Beijing. I immediately realized it’s so safe there that people take that for granted. What a blessing!

But that can be a minus when they travel to some places overseas, especially the first time. They leave things around and then wonder why they are robbed. They also walk around dangerous parts of town late at night and get mugged. Since they can't speak English very well, they get bullied and robbed again 😂

But this I was told by a young American couple visiting Southeast Asia. I have met a young couple in Thailand recently. They were from US and flow to Singapore and they were traveling from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and then to Cambodia and Vietnam and before going back to US.
We have happened to have a casual friendly conversation and I have asked them since they are so near to China, why not go to China just for a few days to see China. I told them China is very interesting. But I was surprised of what they told me.
They said according to all their media reports in US and advice by their government and many other people. They were advice and told not to travel to China. Even their parents don't allow them to go to China. They were told China is not a safe country to travel. Very dirty, poor rundown infrastructures, poor transportation system, polluted, homeless people are everywhere waiting to rob tourists are common even in broad daylight. Chances of been detained for no reason by the Communist government is very high. Because China is an authoritarian state and all foreign visitors are monitored by thousands of cameras everywhere and every minute where foreign visitors go. Foreign visitors from western countries can be detained for months or even years for no reason.
All these is what they know about China. The couple is like below 25 years of age and already so badly brainwashed by their government and controlled media. This is really sad.

China is not dangerous compared to Western places. A big city in China will be lightyears safer than a big city in the US or Europe for example. It's just a very different culture within Chinese society based on hospitality and respect, whereas in the West, everyone's much for out for themselves with criminals not being penalised.

    • @JohnSmith-sm7ez
      @JohnSmith-sm7ez 10 месяцев назад

More charity from citizens in the west. Our 0.1% of scum are worse than China’s. Most in both places are great people. How much of an asshole are you putting down millions of people. That’s not respectful. If we had forced camps and over 5 million slaves like China we would go crazy, unlike the zombie, me, me, me Chinese citizens. How dare you not care about these poor people

    1) When i first visited China some 20 over years ago, safety was a big problem....especially the pickpockets.
    2) Even though much have changed positively nowadays in China, it's still better to be safe than sorry. In another word, one must be always on guard & be alert on your surroundings wherever you go.

Most Chinese people are peaceful and law-abiding so it's normally safe walking around. But now people from many countries can enter China without a visa. Troublemakers can travel too. Every one should look after themselves and should be cautious when walking around in quiet places late at night. It's like traveling in a plane, people are usually safe, but every now and then there's theft of money and other things in an airport or in a plane.

Wow! Really feel it when your mum said “they have got no idea how life can be”. How true is that for most people around the world! I hope your mum will come back to China again for a longer stay. Hope she stay safe and healthy in SA!

Many south Africans have left for good, partly because of the safety issue. Law and order is the most important thing in life, and then it would be nice to enjoy freedom and rights. Best wishes to the mom and daughter in 2024.

Thank you so much for being so
courageous to tell the truth and rebut the
    malicious, groundless and indeed false
    reports about China. Couldn'T imagine
how come the western media, while
    promoting justice, reality, unbiased
reporting, could frame all these false
reports to stigmatize China, how come
these western media could be so
    hypocritical!

I still think is better to lock the door and there is an incident in Shanghai where a model was killed by a thief for her negligence that her door was opened ...Just a precaution you never know who is out there ..... A safe place does not mean they do not have any crimes as the saying goes wrong place and wrong timing ...

when was this? Anything like this would be all over any Chinese media and will be picked up all over western media. Funny one death would be a big news. But this is like every day occurrence in the US. Even the entire family was killed. It would only stay on the news for may be a few days to a few weeks only in the US.

Some country picked Freedom and do whatever they want, some country like china chooses Safety over freedom.
So...what are your picks? Freedom or Safety?

Safety is a given, in China and many countries. Only people from USA have safety in mind wherever they go in this world, becuase where they comefrom, there is no such thing.

99% of US is very safe. Hundreds of counties have never had a mass shooting with many areas where citizens don’t even locki doors. Ghettos ruin US stats. Such a safe place US. Do you think my friends in Vermont and Scottsdale Arizona care about safety? My other friend lives 20 miles outside of Nashville, and they can’t remember when the last crime was committed in the county. So what I’m saying is stop exaggerating. Stop bullshiting.
