- Wicked is a Zierer launched coaster featuring a 90 degree vertical drop and a single inversion! It's one of the most exciting rides in the park, and so it's time for another coaster review! My 100th coaster review, to be exact! :)

Completely agree with this review, Taylor. I have rode this rollercoaster more than any other anywhere, and the restraints have slowly gotten worse. As a matter of fact, I was too short to ride when it came out, and 5 months later they released the boosters and I got to ride it. I have slowly started to dislike it as I have rode more rollercoasters and as the restraints kept getting tighter. Congrats on the 100 mark, I've watched a ton and I can't wait for more.

Impulse has the same restraints, yet they don't crush your legs as much.
Impulse is a Really comfortable ride but the line sucks!!!!
Impulse has the same restraints, but I don't remember them hurting at all. Maybe they changed something with the locking system or something like that
The restrains are the bar things right?
I think that the restraint problem comes from Wicked being Zierer's first coaster of this style so of course they didn't nail everything. I don't know if they have improved the restraints since but I hope so since it looks like an interesting ride. Again it has the only vertical launch in the world as of right now!
Lagoon just needs to be get some new trains for wicked with the restraint system they used on Cannibal.

COASTER BOT they're are rough though. Speed and the smiler hurt
For those two it's kind of understandable. Speed was one of the first ones, and Smiler was their first shot at their newer track type (if you compare its track to Saw, for instance, you'd see it's different). They have made much smoother coasters than that.
Hangtime is going to be the best infinity coaster
Impulse is really really really good and actually really really intense!
i live near lagoon. I remember when it came out, this thing was hyped a TON. Not as much as Cannibal, but still a ton. People came to the park before it opened to get in line on its first day.
100! I remember when you were just a kid with a simple sideshow video and calling rides superior
I've ridden this roller coaster before, and it was awesome. I didn't even think about the restraints being uncomfortable, they were just fine!
So did I, but once I rode it with my phone in my front pocket, and I couldn't feel my legs for about 5 minutes after getting off the ride. I have about 9 good rides out of 10 with Wicked.

Wicked is my favorite ride in the park. I'm still quite young I'm not quite a teenager yet. But in 2015 when cannibal came out we stopped going to lagoon so I haven't been on cannibal yet but until I ride cannibal wicked is my favorite ride
And it will always be one to remember. Also it's the first "intense" coaster i rode and I put quotation marks because this was beffore i rode big thunder or space mountain at Disney land and at lagoon there aren't really many intense coasters there all family coasters
This coaster is like Zierers version of sky rocket at kennywood.

With Lagoon being my home park, I've rode this coaster numerous times. While I do agree with the point being made on the restraints, I feel like they change the pressure of the restraints every year. Some years they're too tight and some years they're still tight but somewhat comfortable. I feel like Zierer and Lagoon didn't nail the restraints right because I'm guessing they didn't want riders to fall out of the top hat in case of a loose restraint since this coaster was the first of it's design. I'm glad Lagoon came to sense when they designed Cannibal's restraints but they seriously need to fix Wicked's. But that Zero G roll always gets me to ride this coaster every time I go.
Other than that, I agree 100% on you with this video. Nice work on it! Perhaps a coaster parody video on this coaster sometime? ;)

I like this ride I am skinny and the restraints kill me and the half pipe turns are jerky
I loved this when it first came out. The only issue I had was I developed a bruise on my shin after the second ride of the day. :/ I haven't had a chance to ride Cannibal yet, I'm hoping I can go this year.
This is my home park, and i guess it was ok. It isn't terrible, but not the best. It's not too bad, as it is pretty fun. I completly agree with the restriants, they are pretty bad. Funny how bad restraints can ruin a ride, eh?
This is definitely my favorite ride at lagoon
I grew up in Utah, so this is the coaster I'm most familiar with. The restraints tighten on the tower, you have to leave them one click looser than you want, so when they tighten, you're still able to breath. If you have long legs, the shin guard may crush them, but crossing them under the seat does the trick.
It's also gotten a little more rattly with age, used to glide like Cannibal does.
I personally love the launch and the restraints aren't that bad.
Hi Taylor, I've ridden Impulse at Knoebles as I live a little over 50 miles away. The restrains is a lapbar plus a bar that goes over your legs. They are quite comfortable. When I first rode it, I thought it was nothing to sneeze at, but I've ridden it more times this year and is warning up to it. I love Impulse. My main complaint is... It's too short. So I apologize for the unrelated review on Impulse as you reviewed Wicked. I've never ridden this, but I want to. I hope you have a great holiday season. I'll be waiting for the next review.

Congrats on 100! I love your reviews as they make total sense and are well made.
To accommodate four the tightening of the restraints, I put the thing about a centimeter over my torso. Then when it tightens it fits

I rode Impulse earlier this year, and I wasn't a fan of the restraints either. They give too easily, so you're pinned down after you pull out of the first drop. I imagine that these restraints are identical. However, I don't remember them being terribly uncomfortable by the end- but that might just be my generally high tolerance. I only found Skyrush's current restraints to be slightly uncomfortable, to put that in context.
However, I did find Impulse to be exceptionally quiet and smooth- Eurofighters can be a little rough and jerky, and I'd say this is one advantage that the Zierer models have over the Gerstlauer models. Wondering if you observed this as well.
I gave Impulse a 7/10, which is a good ride on my scale. (5 is okay, 6 is above average.)
As a Utah resident, I've been to Lagoon and Wicked is one of my favorite 3 rides there. The restraint threw me the first couple times I rode it, but once I was used to it I found that it didn't bother me much and I could enjoy the ride a lot more. Especially because the whole 'electromagnetic launch' system makes it basically a roller-coaster railgun. Very cool, and it's so smooth compared to other coasters I've been on.
I think the reason they use the lap restraint is to try to make you feel slightly insecure with nothing around your shoulders, makes the ride a bit more intense and exciting. I could be wrong, that's just my personal theory.

Wicked review maaaaan!
One thing I've noticed is that when you pull down your restraints, if you aim it towards your hip and not your belly or anywhere else, the restraints don't kill you, and it's much easier to enjoy this ride. I rode Wicked like 15 times this past summer, I aimed the restraints towards my hip, and I NEVER experienced ANY pain or discomfort, and it was much easier to enjoy the ride. Because yeah, if you aim it toward your belly or legs, then it probably will be super uncomfortable and painful! So this is just a good tip to ensure you don't experience any discomfort while riding this!

I think this is one of the better roller coasters that I've ridden, I didn't see a problem with the restraint system. It isn't anything special but it's still fun and better than colossus.
I believe Impulse features the same restraints. The lap bar part is fine on it, the shin restraints however were pretty uncomfortable on Impulse, at least they were for me anyways and I am a skinny guy. Still a really fun coaster though. I have a strong dislike of ankle restraints and while I am no expert on safety, most of the time I feel there is no need for them but whatever haha. And congratulations on 100 coaster reviews, Taylor!
I love the launch and the airtime at the top of the hill. The heart line roll is also great. The rest of the coaster is not so good. After riding many times you learn to push up on the restraints with your legs so you don't get stapled into your seat. Makes all of the difference.

Impulse does have the same problem, the best way is just to push up on your restraint on the drop and you'll be fine.
In my dozens of rides I've never felt uncomfortable or even remotely stapled by these restraints.
Impulse has the same restraints. I managed to get on and yes they still do tighten. I got to look past it but some people think otherwise.
The final turn has a huge pot hole now. you feel it really bad on the edge seats and its almost gives you a crazy sensation where it feels almost as if the train came of the track.

The restraints didn't bother me that much. It was only a slight disappointment the first time, but then all the other times I didn't have any problem with the restraints. I liked the launch. I think its really cool. The ride was very fast and kind of intense. The zero g roll was insane. The second part is kind of boring and there is a moment on the final turn when the entire train shakes. I think the main problem that I had with this ride is that I was expecting a more forceful drop and more airtime at the top of the launch hill, but there wasn't really any. Anyways, I enjoyed this coaster and I would put it as my 2nd favorite at Lagoon.
the restraints weren't that bad if I remember correctly, certainly not as bad as skyrush, which cuts of the circulation in your lower legs, sitting in this really awkward spot on your thighs (don't get me wrong, I LOVE skyrush). The launch wasn't that terrible, but maybe I'm biased because this was one of my first big coasters.

The solution is to leave the restraints about 2 notches "loose" at the start of the ride. It tightens them during it.

I'm over 180 pounds at 6'2", and I had no issue with Impulse's lapbar. I think that the restraints are similar to Skyrush's- you need to learn how to situate your legs during certain parts of the rode.

Impulse at Knoebels does use the same lapbar restraints that Wicked does, so I don't know if it is as painful.
The end seat is the best for the Zero G roll...

thats why every time i go to lagoon, I try to wear pants without a belt, or just not bulky on the waist so it doesn't hurt bad cause being a utahn, those restraints suck.
I’m guessing the uncomfortable restraints is the reason we’ve not seen more of these.
Sometimes the launch can fail and you roll back for round 2!

The restraints get stuck a lot on small people. They have to pry them open with a bar. The restraints are terrible.

Have you ever considered removing the large stats box on the top right of the screen? After the first 30 seconds it just gets kinda annoying when watching, just a thought

You should go on Superman at Six Flags New England. It has great floater airtime and ejector airtime.

About the launch: I live in Utah and have been to Lagoon a lot, I've seen this roller coaster get halfway up the hill and then roll backwards because it didn't get enough acceleration😂

Most coasters will staple you in with the positive G moments but you gotta hold your lap bar up.

I went to lagoon yesterday and honestly I like tight restraints because I'm paranoid so I didn't mind 😂 also I barely like cannibal more then wicked

Wicked is still and awsome ride, The first half is the ride is awesome but the second half isn’t that good but I still really enjoy it, I was a little but disappointed of how quickly it lasted because it’s much shorter then cannibal but I really don’t think anything else on the ride disappoints me

nah, thats not the only reason. Everything after the mid course on this ride is pretty bad frankly. Shaky, uninteresting, and poorly executed.
Another thing about the restraints is that it left bruises on my shins with those terrible shin guards, they press into you so much it’s terrible

Wicked was before Impluse and Cannibal. I would imagine that Impulse has improved trains but I'm not sure. Cannibal I know Lagoon improved the restraint system as the trains on both Wicked and Cannibal were both designed by Lagoon. The part I don't enjoy about Wicked is how bad the track has aged in just 10 years. There was manufacturing issues with it overseas. I kind of wish Lagoon would have the track re manufactured here in Utah and give it some 2.0 trains with Cannibals restraint system. But its all about money and Lagoon wouldn't do that.
The 2nd half of its layout has always seemed lazy to me so on the link below I used NoLimits to red design the 2nd half. I enjoyed your review. Congrats on making it to 100!

But I think that's a different scenario. That launch is just meant to shoot you up to the top of a very tall tower. Wickeds launch starts on the ground and then goes through a short launch section before going up to the top of a small tower. The Skyscraper launch will be much more drawn out, so I think I will like it (if it ever gets built!)
I've ridden Fluch von Novgorod,which is a Gerstlauer Eurofighter and I enjoyed it.It has a very forcefull Launch (20-100 km/h in 1,2 seconds) and the drop (indoor!) is fun.But you can bang your head a bit sometimes :/

Joseph Marques interestingly the only euro-fighter I've ridden is Mystery Mine, so I don't really have any others to compare it to.
