Spotlight On: Annette Joseph

In the latest episode of our Spotlight Series we caught up with Founder of Diverse & Equal, Annette Joseph.
Diverse & Equal is a tech for good organisation effecting real-world, lasting change within the UK tech sector. Built on the belief that an inclusive and equitable tech sector benefits all, Diverse & Equal are driving digital innovation by increasing the number of talented Black and under-represented people in the industry.
Through their bootcamps and DiverseTech Taster sessions, Diverse & Equal equip adults from under-represented groups with the necessary skills to begin their career in tech, and through their research, initiatives and support, empower organisations to create inclusive environments where diverse talent can thrive and the business benefits of diversity can be actualised.
Starting out as a Graphic Designer before moving into Digital Marketing and later Digital Services, Annette shares how the stark lack of representation she experienced within the industry - in particular, within more senior roles - motivated her to found Diverse & Equal, and how organisations can tap into tangible business benefits through creating more diverse and inclusive working environments for their teams.
Speaking on how Diverse & Equal approach innovation, Annette said:
"We engage people who are excellent in their field. They come in as subject matter experts and with a whole range of transferrable skills, unique experiences and points of view. That diversity in and of itself is what breeds innovation."
