In the latest episode of our Spotlight Series we caught up with COO of The Data City, Kelly Weston.
The Data City is on a mission to map the UK’s emerging economy. Their purpose-built SaaS platform utilises Open Data and Machine Learning to track industry data in real-time, to the benefit of researchers, policy makers and investors who are able to access accurate, real-world data on dynamic sectors and the companies within them.
Kelly shares how her career as a digital marketeer led to her becoming COO of a tech company, and how a multi-university talent pipeline coupled with a nurturing ecosystem creates the perfect storm for a highly skilled and growing Leeds tech sector.
"A big thing for our business is that we work at pace, we work in the open, and we work on 'first worst' basis. So whether that's writing a blog post, making updates to our website, making updates to our platform, we work really collaboratively. We remove all the red tape and we just get a version out there. From doing that we know what's good, what's bad and how we're going to improve - so that means we're constantly innovating."
