  • We'll see how this one goes! I am a Lady Gaga fan, and find her music and voice angelically beautiful. And I've seen the first Top Gun with Kirk, but not Maverick. . . and yet I was still drawn to this song and how wildly popular it became after the movie was released last year. So I guess we'll first listen to Lady Gaga, then I'll have to check out this sequel. I have the need. . . the need for speed!
    Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Lady Gaga performing "Hold My Hand" for the first time.

    She recently performed this song at the Oscars and she really outdid herself. Mad respect for her choices to go makeup free, hair in braids, ripped up jeans, vulnerability and no over the top glitz and glam. Just her and her powerful voice.

But this 1 I had a tear & like 2 on A Star Is Born. Rare for me. I do have to say, even tho my love is hard rock, there are 2 ladies I really love. Gaga & Pink!!! Pink is a badass. Insane voice as well. These girls don’t lip sync. At all. What your hear on the radio is what you hear live. Not many…..in fact, most don’t sound as good or better live. Sorry Axl. Great song, message etc.

    From the first time I heard this song, I thought it was the BEST way you could create a modern "80s feel" ballad. It just feels so retro and a worthy successor to what was the quintessential 80s movie ballad in "Take My Breath Away". I never get tired of hearing this song and it's as impactful to my emotions as the movie itself.

I can't help but get nostalgic hearing this song. It's quite a surreal experience seeing 2 years of your life condensed down to 2 hours on screen. As a young widower, I can definitely say that it is possible to love again and be happy again. (I remarried 5 years after my wife passed.) What is hard for me is that even after going through it myself, I still don’t know what to say someone who is grieving the loss of a loved one without sounding like a cliche, or trite. The hardest part, and it was for me as well, is that survivors want answers and there really aren’t any good ones. Just being with them is huge, even if you don’t know what to say. I think it’s especially hard for men because we’re wired to fix things, and some things you just can’t fix. Anyway, thanks for showing human side of music and why it’s so therapeutic for people.

    Little fun fact. Because Tom Cruise is, well, Tom Cruise. He personally requested Lady Gaga to not only comprise the main theme song of the movie (no different than “take my breath away,” & “danger zone” of the first movie) but also he requested her to compose movie in its entirety. The piano sequences, or tracks from other artist, were all played by Gaga herself or handpicked. Music is what makes a blockbuster movie immortal. Therefore, he shows his support by flying his own plane (also used in the movie) over Gaga in the big scene with her in the dress over runway at the Bridge of the song. When you see the movie, please update us all on the feels

      So I think he DID do that, incredibly low, very cool fly-by in Lady Gaga's clip.

    • @mjc1389
      @mjc1389 Год назад +5

      Fun Facts: Yes, Tom did all the flying in the movie concerning the P51K scenes as it is his personal plane. Couldn’t speak for the MV but it seems likely because there isn’t a ton of airworthy P51’s out there.
      His plane is not a fighter. It was built as a reconnaissance/photo plane using the same basic airframe.
      A fighter is a P51D Mustang. Tom’s plane is a P51K Mustang (technically P51K/F-6K).
      Tom purchased the plane either shortly after or during its restoration and conversion into a replica P51D.
      The planes’s serial number can be traced back to its manufacture date and its government service with the Civil Air Patrol and subsequent sale into civilian aviation.
      If interested, there are pictures on the internet of this plane with a couple different paint schemes prior to the one seen in the movie.

    Though I’m not a fan of Lady Gaga’s primary genre (pop), she has such a great voice that definitely lends itself to rock ballads like this song. When I first heard this I was so impressed.
    The video - ❤
    The scenes from the movie interwoven with LG performing the song in the hangar, and then the piano on the runway with Tom Cruise himself doing that fly-by in his P-51 Mustang… chef’s kisses.
    Some of those scenes are kind of spoilers if you haven’t seen the movie… I remember this video came out before movie release, I saw a certain clip and thought “oh this gonna be rough”. All I will say is, Top Gun: Maverick = best cinema experience EVER… I saw it 6 times in cinema, I’ve watched it few more times since, it’s hands down one of the best movies of a generation.
    Lady Gaga was involved in the composition of the soundtrack alongside Hans Zimmer (and if you know Zimmer, you know it’s epic!)… there’s a couple of tracks where the “Hold My Hand” melody is incorporated. Given she has done this and the soundtrack to A Star Is Born, the fact she has said she wants to do more film scores and soundtracks is definitely exciting when she can produce this calibre of music.

I really recommend reacting to her performance of Million Reasons from the Victoria Secret Fashion show. You can tell there’s a lot of classical influence there much like this song but with full bodied vocals full of space & resonance. She’s glorious & hands down one of the best artists to grace the music scene.

    Never been a fan of Gaga's over the top actions(meat suit & etc...), but she is insanely talented with a truly phenomenal voice. This movie and song left me in tears in the theater and even my teenage kids were truly floored by everything they witnessed. I was able to tell them that this is what going to the movies use to feel like. A++++

    • @meghangerhart643
      @meghangerhart643 Год назад +3

      Just a little tidbit: The meatsuit was actually a statement against the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”. Earlier on the red carpet of that same event, she wore an Alexander McQueen outfit (a brilliant Gay designer from the UK who tragically took his own life in 2010, Gaga wore the outfit as a tribute to him). But, on the red carpet with her were several queer male and female soldiers and she spent her time during the red carpet interviews talking about the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. A lot of people remember the meat dress but so many forget that, even so early in her career, she was already an outspoken activist and that dress was part of a political statement. Basically, we’re all the same (meat) on the inside, the U.S government can treat it’s soldiers like meat. Also, she was commenting on how women and women in the music industry are treated like pieces of meat. It had meaning and she explained and has explained that meaning many times. From the very beginning, Gaga has always used all sorts of art as expression. It was always calculated beyond “shock value” but because she was a pop star, it took a long time for people who weren’t her main fans to understand and to take her seriously. Wow, sorry for the novel. I just thought you might find this interesting or it might change your impression of her earlier years. ☺️

The video editor has done a lot better job of matching story bits to the lyrics than I'd have expected for what is essentially a giant advertisment for the movie. Example: cutting to Hondo for the line "just hold my hand" was such a perfect summary of his character.

She can act, she has so much charisma & she can sing with pretty much anyone. Collabs with Metallica, Tony Bennett, Elton John prove her range and when she's not doing pop she can do country as well! I've seen her twice & both times I was BLOWN AWAY!!! She's barely over 5 ft but she performs at 3 times that size! So glad you're covering her! Truly amazing Angelina Jordan would still fit in your playlist of lesser known female artists but that is about to change. She just sang at the FIFA Awards (football/soccer) with hundreds of millions viewing. Angelina has a new song coming in late April. My other favorite female artist is The Warning, a rock band from Mexico comprised of 3 sisters, each a musical prodigy like Angelina.
