Went to Hsinchu in 1973, then a year 1975-76. All bicycles then, no cars or motorcycles. My wife is from Hsinchu we met in 1975. We go to that Chenghuang temple every year we visit. In 1975 Had draft beer and fresh oyster omelette there for less than $1. Then it was very a quiet college town. There is a great bakery you missed next to temple新复珍been there over 100 years. WOW! 太好吃。 I lived in Taiwan on/off over 50 years because of the people, not the food.
I guessed i saw you two cycling uphill northbound near an aboriginal village named Kinglun on Taiwan's east coast where is almost half-way to Taitung City today 4th January around 2 pm.
The couple I saw are young Caucasian about you-two's ages riding similar bikes each equipped with two big saddle bags. I am a cyclist too and am currently on my third day of cycling around Taiwan. Taiwan's coast is so scenic and rich in aboriginal cultures.
Oh wow Soong thats so good you doing the same trip. How is it going so far? Are you doing it pannier style or speed with a van helping you out? What route have you chosen?

That clip was from our previous cycling adventure in France, I actually crashed my bike 😅 luckily the hands were the worst injuries! We’re really hoping we get strong legs too 🤞
Taiwan Highway No. 3 (台3線）goes mostly up and down although there is less traffic than the Highway No. 1, which goes along the western coast and you'd want to be extra careful when there is a big truck driving by. Stay safe and have fun. Local people are generally willing to help so don't hesitate to ask, really.
I’m guessing you have left Taiwan. Most of my family members are living in Hsinchu. Could’ve ask them to show you around. I have so many memories at the market you went. I wish you tried 貢丸（ pork meat balls) and 米粉 (rice noodles)They are must-try in Hsinchu. Looking forward to watching your new videos for the next few daysssss. Cheers

Riding a bicycle around the island requires a lot of energy. Don’t ride too far at the end of the day. You will have more energy to enjoy other food and scenery.
I recall that when I completed the roundabout on my motorcycle, my ass was no longer mine. It’s hard to imagine how difficult it must be to ride a bicycle.🤣

We loved Hsinchu, it had such a cool vibe and food we ate there was so yummy! Our hotel was a bit unique I think it was a love hotel 😅

其實我覺得台灣再腳踏車這塊....沒有很好規劃，有些環島都要跟汽機車搶道，有危險成分在....如果有規劃好一點腳踏車專用道，會相當不錯。
Definitely some areas could be improved but compared to other places we think it was pretty good ☺️
市區人行道都搞不好了
我想郊區腳踏車的路線還有段時間要走
尤其東部有一段山洞很危險
不知道是否會有經費整理舊線讓行人和腳踏車走
台灣安全的腳踏車道
通常是沿著河岸
但台灣河岸都和環島路線幾乎垂直的
很可惜
