I fell in love with Rachel while making the Wicked videos. She's just amazing
Mister Golightly Rachel is EVERYTHING!!! And Eden!!!! I might have something you would enjoy…
Mackey Atkinson Eden's riffs and high belting is amazing! Omg what?
i got to see her!
Mister Golightly Who's your favorite Elphaba?
Mister Golightly I got to see her live! I'm in love with her voice, I actually got to talk with her after and get a picture! ♥️
My favorite part was the “Fiyero”
Elapidus8 nah, not that “Fiyero” wasn’t that good, the other “Fiyero” on the other hand, like wow
My favorite part was actually the "Nessa"
(Sarcasm)
Madeline Adair oh, do you mean that “Nessa” or the other “Nessa”
see, i beg to differ. my favorite part was “doctor dillamond”
i'm gonna go with "Dr. Dillamund"......
At some point I just want a joke performance of this song where the music cuts after the “FIYERO!” and the actor playing him just flings open a door in the back of the theatre and yells “wHAT?!”
peacelovechocolate YES EXACTLY
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
like an snl skit with one of the elphies omg
olivia I could see beck playing fiyero😂
I got ya covered
everybody talks about defying gravity being hard to sing, but most forget how difficult it must be to belt this.
I agree this song is also hard and emotionally more demanding if you are playing the role of Elphaba
I can do this but sadly I cannot belt defying gravity 😞
So much growl as well
No Good Deed is way harder to sing than Defying Gravity tbh
Not to mention that it's toward the end of the second act...you would have already belted out Defying Gravity + a lot more
this and “VERONICAAAAAAAAAGH” have similar but opposite energies
Was about to comment that but 👏👏
From which musical?
Julieta Nuñez heathers
True!!
In which song?
when she said “fiIYERROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO”
I felt that on another level
I know right
I just really felt, *wicked*
Shoshana sang that when she was sick apparently. Such a talented woman
Yes, she had high fever!
Yeah, apparently she had a 103 degree fever. That takes extreme skill.
She must be really talented to do that. It's extremely hot under show lights with stage fog, even without a fever! When I'm in perfect help I don't really like being under lights for a long time, and I've not been cast with any mains yet! I've always been background and I always come off stage sweating. Being Elphaba sounds like a huge amount of work and to do it ill makes me admire her.
Yes she did and it’s amazing how she still sounded that superb
I actually think you can hear it a bit in this recording - she did amazing anyway ☺️
The riff was not written to show off the range of the voice. Its about emotion. To me that was portrayed beautifully by the original Idina Menzel and my personal favourite Jacqueline Hughes who i was very fortunate to see at the Sunderland Empire. She completely blew me away.
Jacqueline was the one who showed off her voice and range the most though haha
@@tyrakristiansen7188 but at the same time she showed the pain and emotion amazingly. If you can’t show your emotion while taking it up an octave or higher then stick to the original
To me, the riff is her screaming in agony and desperation for him and their vocals should reflect that. I’m sorry but that’s not the time to show of your range, that’s what Defying Gravity or the Wizard and I are for.
Andrea Wagoner YES
I agree but I feel Jacqueline Hughes (who went super high) had a stronger sense of sense of desperation and urgency than most of the others
Yeah same
I agree. This is not the time to show off. Save the high notes for defying gravity
I though Eden Espinosa did good at both! She sung a real nice riff and brought a lot of power but her choreography and hand gestures brought a lot of emotion back into the subject of why she is screaming his name in the first place. But yes, completely agree but if an actress feels she can do both than let it roll! :)
I personally feel like this moment in the song is supposed to symbolize a cry or scream for his name and isn’t the time for one to show off how high she can belt. It almost distracts from the emotion of the song, so that’s why I personally like the ones who stuck to the original notes, such as Idina (who will always be number 1 to me), but all these women are super talented, there’s no denying that!
Hannah Apostolico I feel that the high belt actually increases the intensity of the “scream” for example Jessica Vosk’s version shows a lot of despair in her voice but others such as Rachel tucker give off a more angry and regretful moment in the song so to be honest the high belt is actually better for portraying a “yell” or “scream “ in this moment
Exactly! Most of them get so caught up in showing off that don't even say the whole Fyero
YES! I completely agree!
@@nasirroper4011 I can't find the video anymore, but the first version of Eden Espinosa's I saw was absolutely perfect with the high note in Fiyero. When she said, "Let all of Oz be agreed", she sounded JUST LIKE the wicked witch in the Wizard of Oz movie!
I'm 100% with you there
Ok but Ock Joo-hyun is super underrated! Phenomenal!
Mr. WB YEAH!!!!!!!!!
It was kind of over the top and almost meh to me - probably one of my least favourite but that’s what opinions are for ☺️
Mr. WB We love a talented POC queen
hers literally gave me goosebumps
Saskia
wtf it’s supposed to be over the top genius
and how tf can “over the top” also be “meh”

Ok all of them are so great but could we talk about Danna Paola with only 17 years playing such a role like Elphaba en taking it to a whole new emotional level? Like... Dude, that's so powerful.
I think she was one of the weakest.
And she's so beautiful
She was 21 not 17
@@Andy-ul6ox She attended the audition at 17, she performed it at 18
@@AzulaBlack This one was one of her first performances.
I liked Danna's version at 4:50. She manages the power of the others while still throwing in some variation and nailing the emotion of the moment. It's also fun how the guitar player picks up on her energy and follows suit.
She’s the youngest elphaba in the world ❣️
24 years of career.
And what amazes me the most is that she was only 18 when she started being Elpheba
1:27 Oak Joo-Hyun. She sounds broken, hurt, angry, and desperate all once. She completely owned it.
8:48 Lindsay Mendez. She showed such beautiful emotion and passion. Literally gave me goosebumps.
It wasn’t really about hitting the higher notes for me. It was about emotion and complete passion.
same, same!
Ock Joohyun is my favourite actress overall. She has this crazy passion and talent. Undoubtedly the #1 in Korea for musicals.
okay but is no one going to talk about how Ock Joo-hyun and Alice Fearn absolutely SLAYED??
Alice is my singing Teacher -she is so absolutely fabulous!
@@michaelabrown737 she's your voice teacher????? you're so lucky, oh my god - that is incredible!!!
Ock Joohyun is just generally so good! She sounds so hurt, angry and desperate. Also, She herself said she empathizes with the character Elphaba the most as she herself was always more of an outsider/outcast during her early idol/soloist career.
I'm a simple girl, I see Danna Paola as Elphaba, I click.
And she was 17 when she started playing Alphaba 🙊
This is so difficult because ANYBODY who can hit the notes in No Good Deed without modifying is a GOD in my book. It's also one of those songs that as the singer, you want to elevate and bring out your best belts, but it can be easy to overdo it as well. I've always really liked Eden in this song. Something about the strength and almost roughness of her voice really pulls the piece together for me, but she leaves it emotional without overpowering the message with runs or satellite pitches. ❤👍
I'm a god in your book then. But yes, EDEN!!
Rachel Braley I can hit that note and hold it. I'm only 11
ET Lover well yeah but can you do it as powerful as they? Um no
ET Lover at 11 belting with a chest voice and power is nearly impossible. Also, once you can belt Defying Gravity, which is difficult for even college choir students, then you can really brag. So work on it and then come back and brag
eden is so off pitch ????
Idina will always be the best Elphaba in my heart and her riff here always gets me. She really is a performer first and foremost and her fiyero riff is so raw and vulnerable and exactly what she needs to portray Elphaba as in that moment - complete and utter devastation
Considering Idina Menzel set the standard...My Top Ten
1. Willemijn Verkaik- the spin in her sound was delicious...definitely cannot be topped
2. Shoshana Bean- the unique tone and approach to the belt was refreshing and gave a new feel
3. Alice Fearn- beautiful, Disney-esque type of nuances
4. Jessica Vosk- piercing quality on the highest pitch, reaches to the soul
5. Jacqueline Hughes- amazing full, rich tone
6. Stephanie J. Block- great control and interesting take on the riff
7. Eden Espinosa- almost soulful and gut-wrenching, powerful
8. Alyssa Fox- very pretty, great control and phrasing
9. Oak Joo-kyun- Dramatic!!!! Loved it!
10. Rachel Tucker- interesting take on the riff, powerful
See, it was meant to be Stephanie. She was the one who was meant to be the first person in the roll, and actually taught Shoshana how to sing Defying Gravity (Over the phone while standing on a busy street corner, too). I forget the specific reason why, but something came up, I think she had already been cast, and so they had to go with the next option on the line, Idina.
Drew York but Jacqueline is the one that hit the highest
Drew York what about Danna Paola?
eden was so off pitch how
This just shows how hard it is to pick since they all did so well
Ngl my favorite thing is when actresses who sing that “Fiyero” line have like. A HEAVY ASS emotional voice break at the end like DAMN
Ok joo Hyun rly captured the idea of screaming and also carrying the note incredibly
Those who sang the original note (set by Idina Menzel herself) were the best to me. The riffs distracted from the urgency of the 'call' and made it seem like they were just showing off their singing ability. It is supposed to be delivered as a cry for Fiyero
Ock joo-hyun blew this out the water! That sixth note on fiyero 😩😳😍. She has the resonance and technicality a lot of the girls in this video lack.
She was showing off. That was my least favorite sadly.
All of these are so hauntingly beautiful. That first Fiyero that sounds so broken then the RIFF that comes down like thunder and lighting or violent waves!
Idina is obviously the queen, *BUT*
Danna Paola, Shoshana Bean, Jessica Vosk, and Jacqueline Hughes all give me life. 😍
Unpopular opinion: I didn't like Eden's. The first note she hit didn't sound right. Anyone agree? 🤷♀
Yeah it was really flat
Danna Paola me encanta
She was flat at first but ended up ending at a strong point
JESSICA VOSK IS MY FAVORITE ELPHABA PERIODT
yea, it sounded flat
My all time favorites, Danna Paola and Indina Menzel. Because it’s very hard singing the note without changing it I tried it in my singing exam and it’s really hard, even as a soprano
They are all amazing singers but idk y I just don't like it when they go high on the end of your to instead if reaching the high note in the middle:
I like: fiYEEEEERRRRROOOOOoooo
Not:
fiyeeerrOOOOOOOOO
just my opinion
Lauren G. Yes! I agree, I’m so used to the middle high note, it feels uncomfortable if the high note closes out fiyero’s name
Lauren G. Yes! I agree, I’m so used to the middle high note, it feels uncomfortable if the high note closes out fiyero’s name
Totally agree! I personally feel like it’s a slap in the face to the original composer; “This one incredibly difficult belt is boring. Don’t worry, I made it better cuz it’s ME.” Like wtf?! Save your voice! You still have the rest of the act to finish!
Yesss
I disagree lol. I like a switch up.
Y’all are sleeping on Stephanie J. Block I love her
Tanaka Baeko rt x100000000
i know!! i’m watching her in a TV show called Rise right now!

she is my FAVORITE Elphaba of all time! When I first got into Wicked, I found a bootleg with her as Elphaba and Sebastian Arcelus as Fiyero and jeeeSUs christ its one of the best things I've ever seen cause I mean, THAT CHEMISTRY (duh)
Jillian Thomas yo if you still have that bootleg hmu with the link lol (and I actually didn't know Sebastian was Fiyero the same time she was Elphaba?? that's amazing hshfjahgf)

Such a nice surprise to see Danna Paola from Netflix's "Élite" here 👏🏼
I like the ones who don't switch it up too much, like Kerry Ellis and Willemijn. When they start adding extra syllables and flourishes and changing the last note it sounds wrong to me. They all have great voices, but I feel like this part of the song shouldn't be changed.
I don't like how the majority of them took this as a chance to show off their singing range, rather than a chance to show their acting ability. There's plenty of chances to belt high and play around as elphaba and riffing works in the happier/more empowering songs, but this is a dark emotional song. Generally in musicals, higher belted notes are for happier moments (like at the end of the wizard and I and defying gravity), which means it just throws off the mood of the song if you go high during a sad bit, and putting in runs just doubles the distraction from what could be a really emotional moment, and going low(er) during this bit and on the end note of the song highlights how distraught she is and works in contrast to the wizard and I and defying gravity belting moments cause it feels more stilted.
Obviously they're all great singers and most of the time the change of the note is probably down to directors choice, but the most impressive versions for me are the one's who stick to the three original notes and nail it cause its fucking difficult.
My favorites are Idina's and Shoshana's because they aren't seeing how how high they can belt and adding riffs to sound good. They are showing the emotion in their voices like they are screaming in pain for the person that's important that they have just lost.
I died when you put Alice Fearn in the mix because she my favourite Elphaba ever but I was blasted into outer space by Jacqueline Hughes.
Sophie .Jayne same!
Ahhhh Alice 😍😍😍
Sophie .Jayne I got to see Alice Fearn in Wicked this weekend, she was better than Idina!
Exactly the same for me. Alice was at the top until Jacqueline...
I saw alice last year and i need to see her again soon!
this reminds me of a part of heathers when Chandler (Charissa Hogeland does) shouts *"VeroniCAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHH"* 😂
sunny hye. Same, but with polar opposite energy
I saw it with Willemijn and she is outstanding. I feel like her Fiyero just manages to be both a heartbreaking scream and also beautifully sung
The fact that Shoshana did that on A SICK DAY already ranks her high.
Wow, Eden seriously didn't hit those first notes! I love her, but damn that was painful!
Juliana Koziol
Damn I liked her the best
Agreed
I agree. She went completely flat
There are much better clips on RUclips. Don’t let that one mess up screw your opinion over.
I have to say Idina and Willemijn does that part justice. This song has many parts that can be over done and I feel like many of the other Elphabas did that. I never said the others weren’t good, just that it kinda killed the mood of the song.
agree! they capture so much emotion their singing!
Whils vocally they all sound amazing, I think it’s important that it is part of a musical and not a stand-alone song, those words have a meaning and by adding too many intricate tails and using it as a point to show off range cheapens it in my opinion, I think the original version sounds best from the perspective of the musical as it fits, however I would happily swap voices with anyone of these girls, amazing, everyone of them.
My favorites are the the ones with the distraught, gruffy sounds at the end of their "Fiyero" like Shoshanna, Ock, Emma, Eden, Danna, etc. It adds so much realism and I was just hit by a wave of emotions every time I heard that growl you get when you scream. It's so intense.
JACQUELINE HUGHES RIFF IS AMAZING OH MY GOD
Katie Jaggon omg I met her she came to my drama group
no doubt everyone here is talented, but let’s take a moment to appreciate the ladies who prioritized the acting of the moment to an equal degree that they held the vocal capability. this song is probably one of the biggest acting moments in the show and i adore runs that reflect the _motivation_ behind the riff
Can't choose one, so here are my faves
1. IDINA!!! she's number one for sure but all the others are in no particular order
2. Stephanie J Block
3. Jessica Vosk
4. Rachel Tucker (I saw her when I saw wicked on broadway so I might be biased hehe)
5. Willemijn Verkaik
6. Jacqueline Hughes
7. Linsay Menendez
Jessica Vosk nailed it. Kept the resonant (almost) scream note, then brought out the high note at the end. Sounded like an exclamation rather than a high note, and that’s what I love. The emotion!!!!
Shephanie j block has my vote tbh what amazing tone I love that queen
Jessica Vosk!! She nailed that high note without the slightest crack or screech. Her voice is perfection!
OMG it just hit me the Felicia Ricci at 3:00 is the same one who teaches vocal lessons right here on RUclips!!!
I love Jacqueline Hughes because at the end she changes it up and instead of just showing that she can hit the high note at the end, she turns it into a scream or cry which just wrenches my heart all over
That moment when you're watching a RUclips video, and one of your favorite voice teachers shows up...lots of love to Fel!
She's really cool also
Mister Golightly Damn right she is!
Easily 7:47 Jessica Vosk owned that note

Romannesque I couldn’t agree more!

i just saw her last night and i’d like to say, she hadn’t changed her riff! it was so incredible seeing her live!!

Danna Paola's power...so proud of my girl😌😌
4:52 Dana Paola extraordinaria como siempre.
Danna Paola ❤️❤️😍😍 was amazing!! I love her voice a LOT in Wicked she did in Mexico.
Is it just me or does Eden’s first not on Fiyero sound off?
So very flat. Painfully so.
It was a Db instead of an Eb i think ):
Eden was the first to do the riff higher than the original run. I will say, the clip the person used is awful. There are other clips of Eden singing “No Good Deed” on RUclips that are way better. I saw her live twice, and I almost jumped out of my chair at the Fiyero riff. She was brilliant live.
I agree! Everyone’s saying she was the best but I can definitely hear it was off!
Completely agree
myra ruiz!!! mds que orgulho do brasil
They are all amazing, but to me the most impressive were Shoshana and Danna Paola, because Shoshana was sick and Danna Paola was only 17
Idina Menzel. HANDS DOWN!! (All of them were AWESOME, those are some powerful voices, but she is BY FAR my favorite, and always will be! I really feel like I get the most gut wrenching emotion from Idina!)
I honestly don’t know how anyone can pick just one they thought stood above every other because they are all incredible - sure some I prefer but just wow on all counts 😱
Yes !! I love Willemijn so much but Idina, Stephanie, Alice, Jessica and so many others are amazing !! 😍 It's impossible to chose only one !!

Anybody named Fiyero must be feeling real special after this one
My very first experience with this musical was seeing Jessica Vosk's final performance as Elphaba and I have since become utterly obsessed with the show, so I pretty much have to give it to her. Not the most objective of reasons I suppose, but I stand by it.
OMG same!
I saw Jessica Vosk as Elphaba on Broadway in March and she was stellar and will always be my #1 because of that. Listening to these, they're all absolutely amazing because I know I could never even try to hit these notes, but personally, I prefer the riffs like Idina's and Jessica's, not the modified ones. They seem more powerful and emotional to me.
Got half way through the video waiting for my queen, Kerry Ellis, had to scan ahead to ensure she was included. I'm also super intrigued by the non-English inclusions; gorgeous in any language, this is truly my favorite song from this musical!
They all did amazing. I mean, listen to all of them. They all bring something different, and deep, and you can FEEL it in every single one.
