- A comparison video with various Fiyeros singing the line, "Somehow I've fallen under your spell, and somehow I'm feeling it's up that I fell" from Wicked. I don't know EVERY Fiyeros so I'm sorry if your Fiyero isn't here.

The “up that I fell” line never made sense to me, but then I thought of something:
He’s defying gravity.
i'm the same way with "My wildest dreamings could not foresee lying beside you" (originally the scene was a hotel room so idk why they didn't change the line when the scene changed to the woods.)

I thought about this for a long time.
It’s just a really clever play on words. 15 or so years after hearing this for first time this song still sends shovers down my spine.
“Somehow I’ve fallen under your spell”/falling in love: “falling” is usually perceived as a descent, but Fiyero is saying it’s up that he fell because he feels like being in love with Elphaba is an ascension (ie a positive thing)

Apparently Sebastian Arcelus bought a ring a week after meeting Stephanie but they didn’t start dating until after the Wicked Tour. I’d like to believe that doing this song every night is how they fell in love.
Norbert Leo Butz just makes it sound so effortless and rich at the same time. He also doesn't camp out on the high note, even though its easy for him.
Yeah I don’t like the new note they put into it. Norbert made it sound so easy without holding onto the note.

Adam Lambert being in Wicked is SO the best of both worlds
Norbert because he's OG and his voice is just the epitome of the masculinity of Fiyero. Aaron, Derek, and Jonah because their voices were full and it didn't sound like they were suffering to hit the high notes.
It was anticlimactic to hear that part sung in the key that they weren't supposed to be sung in.
Shoutout to Rachel Tucker cause she probably has one of the best reactions I've watched while that part is being sung. Some Elphabas look like statues.

I think this “up“ is a great opportunity to go up with your voice you shouldn't miss.
I find it interesting the most of them really power through "it's up that I fell" and sound great, but far too many of them are either just under pitch or outright flat on the word "fallen". Aaron Tveit's use of his vibrato on the word "fallen" is so smooth and pure - it really works the best for me in this context.

I remember the first full bootl*g of wicked that I saw was with stephanie and sebastian, and every other version I've seen after that paled in comparison because *no one* could match their chemistry. Their performance of this song is honestly the best, 'cause I can actually feel like they are attracted to each other, so they're not stilted like a lot of the others. And sebastian's Fiyero is positively giddy, look at him! Love how he sang this line too

We are missing Oliver Tompsett’s opt up where he goes all the way up to D5 on “I”. Can’t believe they let him do that but glad they did! I wonder if this has become an acceptable alternative for the song when they teach it to new Fiyeros.
I saw Liam doyle (9:44) in 2014 and he was brilliant and made me fall for the character...😂but Aaron and Derek took my breath away😱😍...and Lee was adorable (love him on holby😄)
I love seeing all the understudies! Also we need to normalise changing up a note or riff if you're not feeling up to it one day, it's better as butchering the real note! :)

Decided to make my list based on some of the guys not really mentioned In he comments that I think so great things here:
-0:50 Derrick Williams (I like the the vowel noises he uses on spell and fell here. Granted the recording isn’t good, but I still love it. He leaves in the e vowel sound and it might sound nasally to some, but I really like it here. It’s different, which always grabs my attention.)
-2:35 Mark Evans (he descends into the section here, starting “somehow” higher. Oliver Thompsett does this too and I love the liberty they both take here)
-7:45 Matt Willis (I love, love, love the way he softens “fallen” here. A lot of guys mix or belt this part but by making it softer, it brings something else to the A4 “up” that I fell.)
- 8:15 Ben Freeman (his placement sits a bit further back than other guys here and I love it. It gives us that kinda mysterious, sensual masculine vibe to Fieyro.)
- 11:46 Matthew Croke (one of the west end guys here that does a great job with the power and technique. When he hits that A4 you can hear there isn’t much strain)
